Of course - F414 IP will always be owned by GE until it's willing to sell that IP - so GE will grant HAL IP Rights to Use + Duplicate + Produce that IP while GE reserves Export rights to prevent creating a lower cost competitor to US jobs - same as Israel did for Barak8...

@JackSordakaPVS Jul 27, 2017 India and France are already engaged in the development of a 90kN engine which will be ready by 2019 based on India’s Kaveri K9 prototype engine mostly likely will be used in India’s Tejas MK-1A to replace American GE supplied F404-GE-IN20 after burning engines. 90kN Kaveri will be mated into retired Tejas PV-1 air-frame to use as a flying test bed for the engine, 18 months turnaround time and fast tracked testing once commenced will allow, India and France to a put 90kN Kaveri into production in next 5 years...

👉👉IPR - Intellectual Properity rights - No one will give. France already made fool out of us in RaFaLe offshore clause - saying 40% of cost will be offshore in India wit Partners Like Reliance.... I doubt, even 10% of cost thy had offshore to India. CAG report has found many faults.... However ChInA is only one Country in d whole world who - took IPR from Russia for all its J20, J10, J15, J17, J31 fighter engines. Correct me.

@@vaimurthythere's a lot of difference ...saffran will make engine through partnership with Indian industry through intellectual property right transfer , 100% technology transfer and without export limitation, meaning both France and India will have independent complete control over engine... so we'll just have to put money and development and research efforts ... On the other hand US is a sneaky bastard who is known for its treachery...the GE engine IPR will hold no intellectual property right transfer and no control over engine ...also it'll only share 80% manufacturing tech only after putting money ... So it's technically worthless ...

I am not sure why some people are surprised. Nobody gives away IPR with engine sales. They won't sell IPR either unless it is obsolete because that would threaten future business. You only get IPR if you contribute to share development. That is for the next gen engine to bedeveloped with shared IPR that is to be developed with Rolls Royce or Saffran. The main reason for the F414 is to use an engine that is proven to work as a fall back in case the engine being developed is delayed. This is to avoid engine delays like Tejas or failure to develop an engine like Marut. The deal with the US is for make in India. The reason for make in India, is to learn about various materials and manufacturing techniques in India. What is lacking in India is high temperature metallurgy, single crystal blades, heat insulating ceramic coatings, laser drilling of cooling holes etc. What make in India is doing is preparing the private sector in India for the capability to master these technologies, and providing India experience to master these basic building blocks required to make its own engines.

Well said - IP is owned by Taxpayers that fund development of that IP - so the plan is to get Best In Class to train a domestic workforce with shared production IP - that will absorb the KnowHow and KnowWhy of that IP over decades - to be future IP innovators....

yes we can drop USA engine and instead go with the our own Kaveri engine. If the power is less than we should go for twin engines aircraft, twin engine power will be sufficient to compensate for their weight and extra fuel, more range and more weapons to carry no dependency on foreign countries we have to just fast track by involving our own private industry, set up new infrastructure to enhance production capabilities work on kaveri2 be started soon and layout for futuristic 6 gen Kaveri3 be put in place

Who the F*** did ever say that F414 will be be with IPR? While indian developed engine will take many years to come, Bharat needs a embargo free engine to base its new fighters. So the demand was for Bharat located factory of foriegn vendor that resise the bar for vendor against embargo or supply chain issue. Local factory is source of finished engine and arena for local eco-system, skill and capabelity development. Stop selling "storm in a tea cup".
