I have to agree with what everyone's saying about the copyright strikes. I was fortunate to see them live in Newfoundland, Canada (my home province) in 2015. 30,000 people there and Don threw a fit at one point cause people were taking pics and recording with their phones, threatened to leave and stop the show if it didn't stop. That's how protective they are.

The song is a complex metaphor for the kinds of greed, self-indulgence & corruption they saw around them in the entertainment industry in southern California.

@@twenty3enigma I’m not sure “exactly”where they’re originally from, somewhere near Helmsdorf Germany is what I have been told, but I know they settled in and around Monroe, NC sometime around 1700. There’s a lot of us Helms in and around Charlotte, NC and the surrounding area.

It’s a song about what lies in wait for those who come to California expecting big dreams “Oh you were a singer?” “Oh you thought you could model?” Oh you thought you were someone????? Let me break this down for you. You’re here now In this pit. “And you’ll do as your told, or you’ll starve Ava so what we’re asking, for less money and less security. So you should do what we tell you, Darling.” That’s California. And Nevada That’s where they bury those who don’t commit and comply. There are plenty of movies and documentaries that state this plain. Y’all don’t want to see it though

@@jeffridgeway7474 Don't want to see it? I knew what it was about when it originally came out, and came to California with a band anyway. And there are no regrets. Not doing so would have led to regrets.

They are one of the greatest American rock bands ever created. They sell out their reunion tours immediately, No there is no hotel that has this name. It is about the dangers of coming to California and looking for fame and fortune in HoHollywood. The band has made that very clear in interviews.

If California was a Hotel what would it be like. The band lived in California and would keep leaving to go on tour around the country and then come back. The song (and album) documents the excesses of life at the time.

I saw them in concert in San Diego at the stadium where the Chargers, NFL team, used to play, that was called Jack Murphy stadium, in the 1990s. It was a great concert and I was amazed by the musicians. There was such incredible instruments and singing. They were so talented! It seemed like there were at least 2 of everything, drummers, guitarists, singes, etc. What a great concert it was!

KZfaq seems to be getting more strict with copyright strikes. I know a couple music channels have recently gone and canceled by KZfaq and others seem to be getting more strikes than usual.

Don Henley, the leader of The Eagles doesn't like people reacting to their music. Or even singing covers of their songs. So many reactors have gotten strikes lately. Even if you private a video they can still copyright strike it. Best to just delete it.

Its really difficult to play Eagles songs because of the copyright issues. But I can tell you this one of the best songs released. Its all metaphoric. You intepret in your own way. 🎉

California can be a Heaven or hell for those who go there. I did in the late 90’s and it was both. It is everything you want to find. Everything you want it to be. And if you’re getting lost in that, it can be everything you’re running from. And everything you’re trying to run away from. It’s a vision. It is what you make of it. But there’s just as much evil as there is good. And both are waiting for you there. It’s easy to get soaked into one or the other and not realize you’re too deep into something you never intended to be deep into. And if we’re being honest, Satan had made a home there. There is no denying it.

Eagles and so many other bands up until the late 90s were like godly, The Beatles Zeppelin Floyd Queen Sabbath ACDC Rush Yes Fleetwood Mac Metallica Nirvana King Crimson these are just some of the mainstream household names in Rock and Metal, the rabbit hole is so deep. Like I can go on and on and on, forever and the list wouldn't end. There is just something about Rock and Metal, the type of genre they infuse, believe it or not, there are bands that include death metal and folk into one single song and it still rules. And then there are musicians heavily inspired by Classical music, so there is neo classical. It's just insane, that you guys have so much to tap into, I hope you do

The song is about the Mary Jane aka the Marijuana, the lyrics "sweet smell of colitas rising up in the air" also sight grew dim, any time of year you can find it here, Tiffany twisted is the twisting of the rolled joint, and there are a few more lyrics that relate.. lol great and relatable song for the 70's..

Nope. The “Hotel California” is a metaphor for a particular social mentality. It's sort of criticizing the decadence and extremes of the rich. It touches on the drug culture of southern California in and around Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and other such places.

@@dillonsronce2583 They used to write songs about corporate sell-outs and now they are the worst. Don Henley, a friend and I snuck into one of the Eagles concerts back in the 70's, you all lost out on $12.50 from each of us, now you know, I hope it keeps you up at night.....LOL

I got to see them when they got back together and performed Charleston WV we had to get hotel because so high we couldnt drive and we didnt have Mary Jane we got a contact high....lol from everyone else lol

The song is about the girl's materialism and hedonism and her thinking that there are no consequences,. But there there are consequences as the weight of this materialism and hedonism leads to self destruction.

Bands had to go on tours around the country. The manager of the bands had to find a motel chain that was available wherever they had to travel. they were always looking for the cheapest chain to strike a contract with. So no matter where they traveled, they always stayed at the same chain, hence you can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave. Not all the motels were run equally which is why some are heaven and some are hell. It also explains why one of the chains, in another part of the county, didn't have the wine available that he normally gets at other branches.

Sorry sir … but it has almost nothing to do with literal hotels. The “Hotel California” is a mindset. It's the California culture. It's the high life along with the cocaine, pot, and lavish decadence. Once you're hooked on that lifestyle, you might “check out” but you “can never leave.” I moved from California decades ago, but its culture is still a part of me, since I grew up there. I played the games, and I lived in “the fast lane.” Hotel California is the rich, tan girls, the yachts, the mansions, the corvettes … all of it.

Eagles are worse than Metallica, with their copyrights. Screw Don Henley, and screw Lars Ulrich. Trent Reznor would never sue you. He gives his music away, for free.. Do a Nine Inch Nails reaction.
