India was once Britain’s largest colony. As part of the Commonwealth of Nations, the country observed a day of mourning on September 11, 2022, after Queen Elizabeth’s death. Her passing triggered memories of a painful past for some Indians under British colonial rule, which officially lasted from 1858 to 1947.

As a history major student I understand we should not hate Queen Elizabeth II but we must not forget what they did to us. The damage which British done to us is irreversible and those who don't want to forgive, should not be forced. She might had done nothing wrong but she also lived that luxurious life which was made out of the resources and blood of our people. She never apologized on behalf of her family, she had enough chances to do that but she stayed silent.

Indians soldiers under British role also looted and committed atrocities by helping them expand their empire. Indians should also realised that they have played a great role on expanding the BRITISH empire. During the 19th century, at its peak proportion of British army consists mainly of Indians. These Indian soldiers played a great role in helping the British conquer Malaya, Burma, Papua New Guinea and etc. These people suffered tremendously under Indian soldiers whom are talking orders from the British. The Indians are not innocent themselves.

@@ukwalks4272 please do your research. Historical facts are available. By the early 19th century, the British army was 250,000-strong, larger than that of many nations. The officers were British and there were several regiments composed only of Europeans. But the vast majority of Company soldiers were Indian. Those that were deployed to Burma, Malaya, Borneo were mainly Indians soldiers. This is well documented. Of the 159,000 men on the Bengal Army establishment in 1857, 24,000 were European and 135,000 were Indian sepoys (infantry) and sowars (cavalry).

I wonder if that much amount of wealth existed back then. Like literally even today the whole world's economy is under 100 trillion. In that sense if the Brits had looted India "45 trillion" as you said. The Brits would have the largest economy of today's date. I assume you're claim is in the dollars.

As an Indian, I can say We don't hate Elizabeth II...she was a great soul who served her nation. The hate is all directed towards the British monarchy who plundered many countries and left with a huge mess that we have to deal with it. Remember, the colonialism of European nations ended 35-40 years ago only ( they left Africa relatively later compared to Asia). Edit: I'm not a historian, but in the Government of India act 1858, the governor general of India became the viceroy of India. A viceroy is an official who runs a polity in the name of and as the representative of the monarch of the territory and he was also answerable to Secretary of State in India who is appointed by government. So, the British intentionally or unintentionally split the responsibility of colonialism on both ends. I addressed the hate towards monarch only in my main because Elizabeth II died where she is the face of it. 2. With expecting apology, I'm also on it where economic reparations is a complicated issue. An apology by the British can go a long way.

@@Hungabrigoo well, take a look at Haiti. It aint their fault that they cant grow anything on their land because their colonizers abused their country. We can never know their potential as a country because the colonizers came and took advantage of everything. They should pay for what they did, even if it's centuries ago. And if they askin more money, it aint their fault. Their state today is the direct result of what the colonizers did to them. Look at India. The British hired somebody who hasnt physically set foot on India to draw a line and divide the country. And now it's crime to ask for more? Philippines. Spain sold that country to the US for 20 mil. These countries never got to develop ON THEIR OWN because of colonialism. It's about time these privileged nations pay up.

Indians should also realised that they have played a great role on expanding the BRITISH empire. During the 19th century, at its peak proportion of British army consists mainly of Indians. These Indian soldiers played a great role in helping the British conquer Malaya, Burma, Papua New Guinea. Borneo, Fiji, Solomon Islands and etc. These people suffered tremendously under Indian soldiers whom are taking orders from the British. What a bunch of ingrates. Without Britain India today could be a fragmented mass of small state all speaking different languages. It's the English rule that created a modern system of secular education, introduced the parliamentary democracy based on the Common Law and Westminster constitutionalism, and united all territories of the Indian sub-continent into one united realm. Modern India as a unified democracy with strong rule of law and admirable mathematic & engineering prowess is the product of the civilizing mission diligently and fruitfully carried out by the British. It plugged the India out of its benighted medieval norms and traditions and rebuilt the country into a great power far more ethical, hygienic, enlightened and advanced. India owes Britain a debt of gratitude it can never fully repay. Yet millions of the Indian nationalists nowadays know nothing but complaints. What a disgrace.

And most of the advance that you experience now fuel and cost thousand of life. Basically I could say that the foundation of it is corpses and dead body. That's why I really get angered if someone from those country talked why we are undeveloped compared to their former colonial power country. I am only 17 being very young When we listen to our elders and what we study in our books.. it's very disturbing and painful how the people at that time lived..i feel bad for them..I honestly don't hate queen Elizabeth II but i do hate her parents and grandparents..they were the main cause.. They took all our precious and valuable things and made our SONE KI CHIDIYA (India) poor.... They came India for spices at first ,they colonised India for long time but look still to this day they don't have any flavour in their foods... If i became president or prime minister of India i will take all our Stuff from them back 🥲✊🏻

I believe that there's no point hating on Queen elizabeth II. She wasn't at fault for the colonization of India. It was her ancestors who did it. Rather,we should blame the toxic monarchy and imperialism. But even still, British people are synonymous with the past colonizers for many people here.

@@perfectlyimperfect4585 It's a constitutional monarchy- The "ways" you're talking about are simply just her visiting to streamghten alliances for the commonwealth The British monarchy has been constitutional for a long time, the shots are fired by the parliament, the Monarch is more of a symbol, even Monarchs like Queen Victoria (who reigned while countries like India was a colony) didn't know what languages the colonized people spoke, the food they ate, the religions they believed in, she didn't even know of Islam or why Islamic women covered their heads and that's because she never managed the colonies, it was always the parliament and that's how it's been ever since the British monarchy turned constitutional, the blame should be directed to the parliament

May she rest in peace🕊🕊🕊 Pls also keep in mind the fact that 'Slavery, Colonialism & Colonization' are all evil things done by evildoers. -Around fifty 50 nations fell under British Colonialism; while around twenty five 25 nations under French Colonialism. In the Colonial era all Anglo Western Colonizers did in their Colonies worldwide was build infrastructure, such as roads and ports so that they could ship abundant natural mineral resources, raw materials back to Europe to make fine goods, since there hardly has any mineral resources in Europe. - That is what Colonialism is all about; "Pillage and Plunder" at will. - For instance, it is agreed upon the fact that Africa in general has progressed a lot more in the past 20-30 years than 200 years of Western Colonialism there. - World organization such as UN, United Nations was helped founded, with cleverly drawn charters, by the West; only after they have had enough of practicing centuries-long global Slavery, Colonization and Colonialism; in such a way so as to; - keep their accumulated wealth to themselves, - their accumulated crimes not to get prosecuted by their former victims. 😔
