This is my approach on capturing an Indie Dream Pop style guitar sound using Ableton Live. In this video I record guitar, make some adjustments and add effects in post production. There are many ways to achieve such a sound, but this is my quick and easy way of doing it. Hope you enjoy. It's me, Willeh!

Niceone. Would you consider doing a video on eq? Perhaps an Ableton vocal and much like you've done guitars here with a bit more detail? I just get lost in my own mixing and I see what you are doing but often don't know exactly why. thanks for your service! fav channel.

Wow. I'm blown away by the sound quality you're getting here. I've been using Pro Tools for years and often use a mix of pedal sounds and various plug ins that I have purchased. Are you using stock plug ins that come with Ableton? I have been considering changing my DAW and I'm sort of leaning towards Ableton these days.
@bananalabs
@bananalabs 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, utilizing whatever effects Ableton has. Compression, saturation, EQ and some reverb/ping pong delay. No 3rd party plug-ins here! Ableton is great! It’s all I use.

Awesome. Does Ableton come stock with drum sounds as well?
@bananalabs
@bananalabs 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Different drum sounds, kits, and percussion. But it also depends which one you get. There’s Intro, Standard and Suite. From less plug-ins and effects to everything Ableton has to offer.

I’m using Ableton Standard which is enough for what I’m doing right now.

The audio effects that you use, are they in the default Ableton library already or are you using plug-ins? I am just starting out with producing and figuring out the DAW, but I can't seem to find the compressor anywhere for example haha. Love your video's btw, super helpful thank you! :)

Hey, Isabelle! Thank you so much for watching! So I think it depends which Ableton version you have maybe? I have Ableton Standard. I believe the free version/intro version don’t have as many effects included. The effects should be in the drop down menu called Audio Effects to the left of the screen. Hope that helps!

How did you get such a clean initial recording before fx?
@bananalabs
@bananalabs 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I thought it could’ve been cleaner. To be honest, I didn’t do anything special. I used a Shure SM57 mic into a Focus Rite Scarlett 2i2 interface. The amp I use is a Fender Hot Rod deluxe.☺️
@jamesmoorhead9853
@jamesmoorhead9853 2 жыл бұрын
@@bananalabs Ohh I see so instead of DI you record using a mic? I've been using the 2i2 for 2 years now and it always has a really muddy sound on every guitar recording. I suppose I have to invest in a mic! I thought it may be a cable issue or interface issue.
@bananalabs
@bananalabs 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmoorhead9853 Yes! However, I do sometimes use DI. There are several things that factor in on avoiding a muddy sound. There's only so much you can do. But there are things you can do to get it as clean as possible if you do DI. Make sure your gain isnt so high and your audio wave is healthy but not too fat. (avoid clipping). Throw a compressor, maybe some reverb to smoothen it out. Some saturation to warm it up. Maybe I can do a video explaining it better!

I see you use Compression->EQ->Saturation again and again. I was thinking that Ableton must let you save that group as a preset? No? (I use Reaper, and it has that, so Ableton must also, I'm guessing.
@bananalabs
@bananalabs 2 жыл бұрын
Good eye! Yes, they do let you save your own presets as racks and I do have some. I just usually like to drag and drop for a fresh start. But, since I’m using the same kick/drums & bass, it wouldn’t hurt to use my saved racks. It could save me a few seconds. Thanks for reminding me, Jason! Also, that wouldn’t be a bad idea for a video! 🤔

Does the tone already set on ur guitar knobs do anything?
@bananalabs
@bananalabs 2 жыл бұрын
I usually have all tue knobs at 10. But adjusting them can be a factor on the sound you are trying to get. If you’re looking for a warmer sound, you and have them at around 7/8 depending how sensitive your knobs are. You can always adjust the tone in post production via Ableton which is something I do a lot of the times. Unless I’m playing live, then I’ll adjust my tone knobs accordingly. Thanks for the question, Joel!

@@bananalabs oh yes, also, is it neck, middle or bridge that's used most of the time for DI?
@bananalabs
@bananalabs 2 жыл бұрын
For that, it all comes down to preference. If you want a more warmer woody sound i would use the neck pick up. Any pickup going towards the bridge and it’ll sound more twangy and thin. Hope that helps!
