I think that one good point about indie games is the fact that they have to be good to get any recognition so if you’ve heard of an indie game it’s probably good whereas with a AAA game you might have heard of even the ones that were utter failures that no one likes

I personally prefer indie games overall but my favorite game is a AAA

AAA has more capabilities but they don't usually use there abilities

I feel like right now the whole “triple AAA vs Indie” argument is just kick the bigger person in the room. Not saying triple AAA don’t have some valid flaws that’s criticism could leave into favoring indie games, but it really feel like some because are some anti-big corporations that they literally don’t even know why their hating.

I’m glad you talked about how important remakes are, because lately I’ve been hearing about people getting angry at the idea of remakes and instead wanting newer games. I personally think good remakes are fantastic and help preserve amazing games. I will say that although there are obviously bad triple AAA games, it never really mattered to me because there’s way too many triple AAA games. With indie games agree with you as the good ones get a lot of light but the bad ones are games no one cares about, and are just ignored. So I think they’re even in that topic. Nice video as always.

Interesting video, man!👍 Not every triple AAA game is hot garbage, there are some good triple AAA games like Super Mario Brothers Wonder for a example. The best part about Super Mario Brothers is that the developers of Nintendo decides to take their time without any deadlines. Let's hope the developers of Nintendo (including the developers of Splatoon) decides to start making awesome games again without any deadlines, and let's also hope that the developers of Nintendo decides to start making new and original IP games in the future. But yeah, other than that, reject the rest of the triple AAA industry and embrace indie and AA games. Also, thank fucking God, I'm becoming a indie game developer, and I can't wait to start making awesome, bad-ass/edgy games in the future!🤩

I love that you casually forgot that most AAA games cost like 70+ these days and indies usually charge you below 20; like you could literally buy 3-4 indie games instead of a triple A one. And also that money would go more to the devs instead of some greedy multinational director.

Popular indie games give you a full game at a reasonable price. Popular AAA games give you a half-assed sphagetti codded game (that shows in obvious places) with a subscription, paid characters, battle passes, questionable anti-cheat (for sometimes even a single player game) and they are charging 70 dollars just so you can get the benevolent chance to buy more dlcs and add-ons than to play the actual fucking game. Good AAA games are pretty amazing I play them more than indie ones but they usually are really really few good ones, same goes for indie. (Games and media in general as well if you're that general)

So basically AAA has higher potential while indies have more different types of potential

I disagree with your take on game preservation, because those retro games that new indies depend on (which I already disagree with, a lot of them don't depend on old games at all) WERE indie games. Sure they build on them, but at some point one or multiple indie games had to start it. Your logic is like saying that all youtube videos depend on pioneers before them, but that's not true because at some point someone had to be first. I also disagree with your opinion because you can't say that there are so many big games that are revolutionary, but then not acknowledge the amount of life-defining indie games you haven't played. Of course you don't know how many there are, but for AAA games, you will know how many are good and how many are bad, just basically because there's a finite amount of them (and of course there is a finite amount of indie games, but the amount of them compared to AAA feels like and is basically infinite)

I think all good Indie games need each other. A lot of good Indie games are inspired by one another. If Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, and Terraria didnt exist, Indie games wouldnt be as amazing as they are now. Its like all Indie devs are helping each other on their game. One th8ng I would like to point out about your answer is that you said AAA is more important not better, I agree that AAA I important and can do amazing stuff but the problem is that as it gets bigger and better it gets harder to keep out corporate greed. Because of this I think that indi-games win out in terms of which is better while AAA wins out in terms of which is more important. But another thing I that its becoming easier and cheaper to make games and it looks like it will continue to so for the future I think that indie-games will start to become the standard.

even then, for bad indie games they're generally not bad in the boring sense, think of a game like yiik for example, that game's terrible but it's fascinating to think about it because the devs had bad decisions that were fully implemented and developed , AAA bad games are mostly just buggy rushed messes or designed by committee slop. it's an extention of the originality point that you made, indie games have a larger chance to be bad in a completely new, interesting way, which does move the medium forward.

I prefer indie games a little bit more but they are both so good and no one should discredit an entire industry due to a budget.

Numbers naturally work in favour of indie games. The more titles, the higher likelihood one of them will eventually shine brighter than AAA games.

Won't pay 'AAA' prices, no FOMO, so wait. Got Tomb Raider (2013) cheap after years = trash. Got RDR2 cheap after years = played it once; good experience but not compelling. Got Witcher 3 cheap after years = masterpiece. Willing to try more at Indie prices. Kerbal Space Program = 4,500 hrs, learnt orbital mechanics, wrote two books. Rimworld = 2,000 hrs, pure fun. Mount & Blade = 1,300 hrs. Etc. etc. I vote Indie every time.

You mention it taking Rockstar games 10 years to create a new Grand Theft Auto and I have to say I think at least part of that or lets say 5 Years of that was intentional. Why rush out a new game when your still selling millions of the previous/current game in the series? When Your making billions a year off of Microtansactions? People act like they had no reason to withhold a new game when all evidence points to a extremely capable company like Rockstar simply taking it slow to keep raking in the money with the current games on the market.

Honestly, indies all the way. It's basically immoral to give most major studios money. It's the most predatory and dishonest industry there is. Besides even that, though, I just find myself putting way more hours into indie games and playing them through over and over whereas any AAA game I get on gamepass usually just gets boring and I stop playing it halfway through. Even RDR2, as good as it is, started to feel like a major slog to me by the end. By the time Arthur died I was too burnt out to care. Indie games are also labours of love and it shows while you can just feel the bullshit and compromise going on behind the scenes in AAA games.
