Discover the intricacies of hay baling in this episode at Ewetopia Farms. We'll walk you through the process of making wet hay or haylage for our sheep, emphasizing the significance of moisture content in hay and the considerations for baling dry versus wrapping. Additionally, we'll explore the role of tile drainage in wet fields and its effects on crop yields, particularly in climates like Canada. Watch as we showcase the hay wrapping process and compare individual wrappers with inline tube wrappers, sharing our rationale for choosing the former at our farm.

Im sure your regular people love the longer videos. And, like in anything there are those that don't. As for your "tea". Your adults that work very hard and can do what you want. It a shame that people want to tell other people what to do with their lives. Enjoy yourselves when you have the time to do it. See you tomorrow

I don’t understand why I’m the H.E. double hockey sticks anyone would get upset because you and Arnie are enjoying a nice cold iced tea? 😉😂😂 Some peoples children 😤 Although I didn’t vote for Arnie’s field/crop work. I really enjoy it. Your garden flowers and that ewe at the show; STUNNING. I like the length of your videos. Never too long for me. THANK EWE!!

Good morning Arnie and Lynn. The sheep are just like kids they enjoy the chase. 😂😂. Wow Arnie what a tremendous amount of work. Very impressive. I love seeing all the things you guys do to care for those mischievous sheep. The rams look so peaceful. It is funny that the sheep tolerate birds landing on them. That is great news. Not a surprise because your sheep are beautiful. I trust that you make the decisions that are best for the situation. Great information about tiling. Thank you. And the marshmallows keep growing in numbers. I think they are pretty. What a nice surprise. Your videos are never too long. I look forward to them each day. They make my heart happy and such a great way to start the day. You two are as cute as can be. Big big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😉😉😉❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Crop people sounds good! I hope that your hay turns out well. It looks like the sheep are being naughty for you Arnie! The rams are looking cute! Some of them with birds on their back too! Way to go on coming in second with such stiff competition. Wow you have alot of hay to wrap. Tile drainage ìs a good thing. It's so much fun riding along with Arnie on the tractor. Aww, Max was being naughty. He just can't handle all of the action lol. It's so cool watching the bales spin while they're getting wrapped. Hopefully the weather is good. Those cold drinks look perfect for a busy day of hard work Lynn. A marshmallow epidemic lol! That was funny. I like the length of your videos, thanks for sharing another great one. See you tomorrow! ❤🐑

Arnie, I always enjoy your crop talk because I know personally how vital good crops are to a working farm. A terrible crop year means hardship not just for the farmer but their animals too. Thank goodness, you’re getting great hay at last. 💚 Lynn, your choice of music is perfect! And the length of your vids are 👍🏻. Ignore people who aren’t happy with your comments. Video length is fine for me. Too bad about all the plastic, but it’s what we have. Seeing the mushroom collection growing no doubt is a relief looking towards winter. Hope the regular unwrapped hay harvest went as planned, so that storage barn is filling up too. Your farm seems to run pretty lean cost wise. Imagine that while the wrapping the time is spent thinking, planning, or finally getting to do something fairly brainless. You’re my favorite sheep channel and as of about 6 months ago the only one I’m subscribed to…. Dropped the others, after years of watching the others I got sad and mad. 🎉congratulations again this year to your 4Hers. 🏆

I like the photos on the end both yesterday and today. The girl with the beautiful show lamb - very nice. We had one like that nearly 40 years ago. She got grand champion producing eye when she had triplets. Then the area coyotes reduction program was cut out in this part of Oregon so small farmers had to give up sheep farming.

I wonder Arnie what the comparative cost in today's dollars for tile drainage? If it was $700, say 20 years ago, that equates to $1165 Canadian today based on inflation. I, know we like to think things were always cheaper yesterday but generally technology gets cheaper over time. I might long for the day when my first car could fill its gas tank at $.50 a gallon... But I was only earning $1.75 an hour back then. BTW: longer is better!

Max was really hoping you wouldn't persist at taking him inside. Poor guy, I have a dog very much like him in that she gets very worked up with noisy things that move, especially ATV or motorcycles.😂 The reflection of the tractor lights, on the wrapped hay, at the beginning of the video made such a pretty scene. The sheep were very much enjoying the cool evening putting Arnie's patience to the test.😉 So happy you were able to get a few dry days all in a row to work the hay. All those long days (and nights) make a good refreshing drink well deserved!! Thanks for a great video!! Stay safe!!🙏❤

I like the long videos. Very informative. You pack lots in, and we see more of what you do rather than some chanels that do several days in one video, or show a really short snippet of what gets done. This is more realistic. That being said, don't wear yourself out. Sorry everything is so expensive. That plastic costs so much now!

We figure we’ve put up 600 round bales of premium feed in Ag bags, Rental of the machine and the cost of the bag is 8 bucks a foot and by our loose calculations we get about 1.75-2bales per foot on a 9’ bag. $3500 harvester - massey 1105 105hp for pulling the chopper. Jd 4230 100hp for on the bagger Jd 2140 75hp for running wagons… (2 old wagons but hey were handy lol) We bought a used TMR mixer for 2,000 put 1,000 into it. We also mix corn silage ( if you were feeding straight haylage you could use a feed cart some good used ones around. We find in conclusion it’s the cheapest way to store feed and make dairy like quality feed, and the sheep eat every bit of the hay, we figure on 5% waste and we can feed around 300 hd in under an hour. Down falls are keeping the face fresh on the bags. The mud like Lynn had mentioned we continuously fight muck seems like all year round! If your half mechanically inclined and you know how to run the internet you don’t need fancy equipment to make money in farming!

When Lynn and Arnie bought the farm they had a TMR mixer but got rid of it. Another concern Lynn has is the cost and space of paved alleys for the feed cart. I think she said $100k for those but I’m not sure if that’s per coverall or for all of them. With their current system they’re able to allow extra comfort space for the sheep. To provide the same total area per animal they’d need an extra coverall. (Note that Lynn’s prices are in CAD. $100k CAD is about $73k USD.) That said… thanks for the breakdown! It’s really interesting to see how people make things work.

The steel bunks that they have they could absolutely feed Tmr in, I would. They have a beautiful setup personally I wouldn’t change a thing we love visiting and purchasing rams for our flock! There are a million ways to farm sheep you just have to find the way that works for you and I think they have it figured out too a Tee !! Much like the ones in the video 😂😂.

@brandonhoekstra9674 thanks for that, Brandon. Very informative from someone who does it this way. You need to get that little girl of yours making videos on the farm 😉Obviously, buying equipment second-hand and being mechanically inclined helps, but you also need your feed area setup for haylage. We would do it this way if we had to start over. By the way, Jacob says you are looking after our sheep very well, and they look great! Thank you for taking such good care of them ❤️

Plus the big bagger guy has to be scheduled when not raining, your feeding is set up for rolls. Its completely different operation, alot of break downs and maintance with all that equipment running, start buying tires for combines, etc they do commercial crop farming though. How much is one of those big bags cost, there huge, plus concrete pad to put on.
