LAHAR flows can change as the volcano erupts, they carry rocks, mud and logs along their flow. which in the future will further bury the LAHAR path, so that if another lava flood occurs it will create a new path. So building embankments in the LAHAR flow is not a long-term solution, as happened here in the LAHAR flow on Mount Semeru.

Prevent? No - the systems of crust vs surface water are too complex in size. Basically, an eruption is a steam event. Water gets trapped, a communication with a lava zone opens, and one of two outcomes must happen because of the expansion rate: steam vents or earth moves. Drill steam vents one says? I give that a 0.05% chance of success and only in the thinnest crust areas of the planet. Drilling past 10,000m is a seriously difficult task. But the crust is dynamic and always changing - on the underside. And water is generally on the move too. As magnetic pole reversal unfolds, expect a light scouring of crust by core from hydraulic action, and... buy a shovel. Its going to rain some more.

@@ardi08 no, it literally means the cold lava they are showing in the clip. I've seen countless documentaries from discovery and nat geo since I was a child and they've been using the term lahar. Just weird an asian news channel didn't even mention it and instead sticks with cold lava, guess its to gain more views.

Believe it or not, happy that Indonesia didn't face much worse, after Mandrake Kerala CM's visit. If you don't believe, just check his travel schedule and what happened in those countries.
