Brahman 2. Atman 3. Law of Karmaphala 4. Reincarnation 5. Moksha Brahman is the One God. We call the one God Brahman with many names. When Brahman creates something (universes, creature, etc), we call Brahman Brahma, you can have food and drink water because of Wishnu (Brahman's other name), when somebody dies it is because of the work of Lord Shiva (another name of Brahman). Those three names are called TriMurthi. Beside those three there are many other names. Some of them are even Godess. In folklores and mythology sometimes those various name of Brahman sometimes made so that they look like many different Gods of which in fact there is only one. Ekam eva advityam Brahman = God or Brahman is only one, there is no other (Chandogya Upanishad/Veda) Eko narayana na dwityo’sti kascit = There is only one God, there is no second One. For additional knowledge and to broaden your insight as professor I think it is not a bad idea to check the book called Bhagavad-Gita. Some well known scientists read Bhagavad-Gita especially if you are involved in particle physics. One for example is Robert Oppenheimer. Some scientists at CERN also (where the hadron collider is). Even there there is a statue of Lord Shiva (Shiva's Cosmic Dance) in front of the CERN building. By the way the name of this faith or belief was not Hindu. It was Sanatana Dharma (way of life, "eternal” or absolute set of duties). The name appeared after the British imperialism in India. Keep up good work! I'm an Indonesian studying archaeology. This "professor" is mistaken in some parts: 1. Indonesia was NEVER a Hindu or Buddhist nation. Hinduism was only on the island of Java and Bali and Buddhism on the island of Sumatra. The remaining 3 big islands and the thousand smaller islands were animists. Most of us were animists. 2. Indonesia was never ruled by a foreign kingdom. Fortunately Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam came to Indonesia in peace. They were introduced by traders from Northern & Southern India in the 1st century AD (for Buddhism & Hinduism) and Gujarat in the 10th century AD (for Islam). Christianity was mostly brought in by the Dutch, our longest colonisers, in the 16th century AD, but there has never been a recorded history of forced conversion on local people to Christianity. The Dutch were more interested in commerce here, not spreading religion. They didn't state-sponsor missionary activities. 3. The reason why Muslims now make up the most population is because, by chance, people in Sumatra and Java, the most populated islands, converted to Islam after their kings, one by one, converted to Islam from the 14th to 16th century due to influence of long trade with India (Gujarati Muslims) and China (Hui Muslims) since the 10th century. Many smaller kings on smaller islands followed subsequently. 4. Indonesian history is not only coloured by Muslim kingdoms vs Hindu kingdoms, but also Muslim kingdoms vs Muslim kingdoms (as in Solo vs Yogya), and Buddhist kingdoms vs Hindu kingdoms (as in Srivijaya vs Medang). Muslim kingdom + Hindu kingdom vs Muslim/Hindu kingdom (as in Majapahit + Tuban vs Demak) took place as well! It's not to forget that many Muslims also served as troops in Hindu kingdoms (as in Balinese Hindu Karangasem kingdom). The history and cultural tapestry is very complicated here, bro. 5. There has never been any record that the Islamic kingdoms here applied jizya on their non-Muslim subjects. Most probably because their kings wanted them to be loyal and not support the rebellion sponsored by other islamic/non-islamic kingdoms. 6. Why many Hindu/Buddhist monuments got neglected? They got neglected because the Dutch colonised Indonesia and starved our people for 3 centuries! Our kingdoms had to fight them. It was this common enemy that eventually united all people of Indonesia, regardless of their racial and religious backrgounds. 7. Contrary to what this video tries to portray, most of Indonesians are never ashamed of and are even VERY proud of their long history and rich culture, in which Hinduism and Buddhism also took part. Lessons on history and culture are also parts of our school curricula since elementary school. 25% of our vocabulary came from Sanskrit and our government takes pride in our Sanskrit heritage. Our national motto, the mottos of our Army, Navy, Air Force, government and educational institutions are mostly in Sanskrit. Vishnu's Garuda is our national emblem and Hindu icons (Ganesh, Sarashvati, etc) often appear as logos on our national & educational institutions, as well as our bank notes. Many of us are also taught about the heroism in Ramayana and Mahabharata, parts of our long national cultural heritage, by our parents, despite our being Muslims and it's very usual here to find names like Muhammad Krisna, Zainab Saraswati, Mahadewi Fatimah, etc. We don't see them as Hinduistic anymore, we see them as Indonesian. 8. Indonesian government doesn't promote monotheism. It doesn't serve any benefit to our government. What it promotes is theism and it condemns atheism. Why? Because, it is always said that atheism goes against our culture which is rich in spirituality and religiosity and there was a severe coup d'etat attempt by a strong Communist movement here which promoted atheism. On your ID, you need to state your belief and it can be anything (incl. the 6 state-acknowledged religions), but not atheism. Moreover, the way I see it, most Hindus here view themselves as monotheists, probably due to the influence of the Advaita philosophy. They even retain the pre-Hindu name for their most supreme (unitarian) God : Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa. Regards.

Same happend in india pakistan bangladesh and many other places like Iran , Jordan , Israel and others the jazia (tax on non believers) was so harsh that a very very large number of people converted just to save their families from going out without food and clothing, not just with Hindus or Buddhists, but also with Taoist, Christians and Iranian zorastrians , Jews , unfortunately it was a sad reality and as we know fear or love are 2 strongest emotions , if not love PPL will bow down to fear .

I don't think HInduism went to Indonesia through traders. Such magnificent temples, standing as testimony with sculptures of Hindu deities would not have gone through traders. The faith in Bali is that Sage Markandeya, arrived in Bali and established Hinduism. This Sage is mentioned in the various puranas of Hinduism including the Bhagavata Mahapurana where Sage Markandeya had a long philosophical discussion with devotee Vidura. The sage must have arrived through his mystical/yogic powers rather than through physical transportation. The practice of Hinduism in Bali may look quite different from Hinduism in India, but Sanskrit, and other Vedantic philosophy of Hinduism in Bali are same as that in India. It is amazing that Muslims could not convert the Hindus of Bali though they converted enmasse, almost the entire Indonesia.

Thank to the Nomadic Prof. for discussing about Indonesia. But I would like to share with you about Indonesian history. First, this country never got independence from the Dutch. It was quite difference with other countries such as India or Malaysia which got independence from the British. The proclamation of independence by Indonesian in 17 August 1945 was a unilateral declaration. We didn't need much acknowledgment from the Dutch. Therefore, there was 'an independence war' (1946-1949). Second, Indonesia never questioned the existence of Hindu and Buddha as religions. The government and the people respect Hindu and Buddha because we realize that they are our ancestors. You can see that hundreds temples in this archipelago are safe, they are protected by the Law. About jizya (Islamic tax), we never heard about that in the history of Indonesia. Maybe you heard about this in the Ottoman or in the other Caliph history. But Indonesia had never be part of any Caliph in the world.

Wow, I'm mind blown by how poorly researched this is. There was never a tax and Hindus were never second class citizens in Indonesia. While it's true that most Muslim converts had forgotten about the ancient temples, they still held their Hindu-Buddhist past close in their traditions, their names, their daily lives. Most Javanese, even if they're Muslims, Christians etc are proud and well aware of their Hindu-Buddhist past. You'll find that many are still well-versed in everything from Ramayana to Mahabharata. To them Islam or Christianity is their religion, but Hinduism-Buddhism is their heritage. This identity is self realized and has nothing to do with the colonialists at all. All of us learn about our nation's history at school and the Hindu-Buddhist era is celebrated as the golden age.
