the parents have taught their kids this, but this is just a web show and the producers allowed them to do it because they are kids and they are trying something new, also, by saying they are "merely children" it sounds like you look down on them like you are on a high pedestal and they are way below you, you sound like you are suggesting that children cannot be intelligent, polite, well-mannered, etc.

I was curious tho, are most american kids reaaaaaally picky when it comes to food?? (except for tempeh, I was born Indonesian, and never left Indonesia, but I used to don't like tempeh when I was a kid). I mean, they don't eat the fricking rice!! Also, next time please prepare a plastic/paperbag for kids to spit their food

kish! Tempe is delicious with chilli sauce and sweey soy sauce. I remember eating 5 or 6 of them without rice when I was still a small kid. Thinly cut with crisp edges... That's the way to go for me! Stir-fried tempe with teri and peanuts are also excellent! Aah, tempe. What a versatile ingredient~

i thought they ate them wrong. they only ate the garnishes, not the main food. they tried the bread instead of the chicken porrige (bubur ayam) and the tempe instead of the vegetables, whereas gado-gado is a salad with peanut sauce. also one of the best food in indonesia, nasi goreng (fried rice), why they tried only the egg, cucumber, and tomato, where the main food is the rice itself? if you just give them the fried rice/noodles, maybe they loved them. but overall, i love their reaction. funny and pure :))

john ursua well they are supposed to judge, like tell us wether they like it or not. But if they only took a tiny bite or even just lick it i don't think they can taste the food, well it will be more interesting if they try a spoonful of the food and chew several time so they can really taste it , they can spill it if they don't like it.

maybe the tittle should be 'Kids try chinese bread, tempeh, cucumber, egg, and coconut' i dont see them trying indonesian food, i dont blame the kids, i blame the person who serve the plate, i understand this goes on the internet and the food should look presentable, but if you want the kids to really try then MIX the bubur and the gado-gado (because gado-gado is all about the peanut sauce and by the look of it, it is not mixed in) also next time just plate the fried rice ONLY without anything AND please teach them not to spit back into the plate, its sad to watch and the food is barely touched, such a waste to be spitten and thrown away

agreed. i don't feel like this was presented really well. i barely saw those kids reaction of the foods, i just saw them react on egg, cucumber, tempeh, coconut etc. they didn't even touch the main food in those dishes.

Maybe teach the kids how to be polite while they eat. If they don't like something teach them to spit it in their napkin, that way the rest of the food isn't ruined.

Nothing wrong with teaching young children to be polite, considerate, thoughtful, caring and kind, not to mention not waste food, then they grow up as that kind of adult. It doesn't take away their freedom of expression. We definitely could use more people in our world like that.

My favorite parts of these videos are always the parts with Ernie because he is the most charismatic and funny kid out there AND the conversations between the producers and the kids. It's always so sweet and innocent and mostly hilarious
