Ehmm guys I think you should have an Indonesian friend who can speak english to be a translator when you go to a traditional market next time. Cause not all Indonesian can speak english😐. English is just third language for us. We usually speak tradional language and Bahasa as our national language for daily conversation :)

An interesting video. The reason I've been hooked on your films (since I stumbled on my first one after searching"fish and chips Cornwall") is, I have come to realise, due to 3 factors. 1 your passion for food, and the fact that you are adventurous, non fussy eaters. 2 your enthuisiasm for the country you're in. I was touched by your love of my country, England. 3 Positivity. Even if things go wrong you still look on the bright side. I'm so glad you're not vegans. All the best x

Flying the Nest the "Pepes" thing is made of fish usually with spicy seasoning, and it is wrapped with banana leaf... that is so yummy! You should try it cause you love fish, and you made a good choice for the tea, teh (tea) botol (bottle) sosro is the best and legendary tea. Anyway if you visit Indonesia again try pecel, gado gado and rujak, they are made of veggies.. you can find those dishes in Java.. To all of you, Thanks a bunch for visiting Indonesia 😊

Glad you tried the traditional market there, one of my favorite market when I go back home to Bali. The thing you called snail was not snail, it was fried Eels. And the drink was called Es Campur or Mixed ice and the black jelly was grass jelly, but you should mix all those up before drink it to get more flavors of it.. but good jobs you all!! :)

The fact that you are willing to push the envelope with food is always interesting. It is going to get difficult to top yourselves down the road but who knows? You are a credit to travelers and can help those following step up and take a chance on learning to like something different. Please keep pushing the envelope. The reactions to the *bad stuff* is priceless.

Dear Flying The Nest couple. Indonesian here. I personally think that the language barrier is almost unavoidable when you go to foreign country, Balinese people is on the other hand the most advance when it comes to speaking english compared to other region here in Indonesia, so hearing you guys complain abt how these food seller didn't speak english at all making it harder for you to find vegan food is quite depressing like you can just google how to say frikkin vegetables in Bahasa and asked them whether they sell vegetable-based food. You went to our country, frikkin adapt to it instead of expecting all people to speak your language.

In a matter of fact, this video is totally not informative. They don't tell where the food-market is, they have absolutely no idea what they are buying, eating. They can't tell anything about the food. It just shows a group of young westerners who has not informed it self about the food nor the products, trying out food in a foreign country. Saya orang belanda dan belajar seditik bahasa Indonesia. Kalau saya berkunyung Indonesia, saya bisa tanya apa-apa. (dan harus belajar lebih bayak).

I don't have anything against anyone's food choices but it's hard if you try to combine it with traveling to exotic places where English is not spoken and you don't even use Google translator to learn basic local words like "vegetarian", "fish" or "meat" in it. Like... Ok, I understand and I am respectful to your decisions. Buy you're in Indonesia, in a street market. Good luck if that chicken is even chicken. I try to be open minded and, if the locals eat it, ehy can't I? But, if youhave this food restrictions which are completely understandable, the least you can do is learn to comunicate in a basic level. For example, I'm very allergic to strawberries, so everytime I travel I learn how to say the word in that country and even print a card saying "I'm very allergic to strawberries, does this contain them?". I have traveled to many exotic places and everyone has been so helpful when you try first to approach to them, instead of complaining that they don't speak English. Girl...you're the guest , it's you the ine who doesn't 'speak Indonesian.

Such a great team video... :) Absolute crack-up...! (definitely worth more than 1 view) Creg's (Craig) beige ensemble... Great describin'... Aimee's description of the jelly - "floor" was hilarious... The baby eel looked interesting... Not sure if I'd be game... Jess' playdoh & coconut vs Josh's paintball & coconut... Hmmm :/ I think Indonesia is a haven for spices, so it's not surprising there was some unexpected ziiiiiing... Alison definitely had the best clue as to what to eat... (A little research can go a loooong way)

Thats not snail. That is eel. Deep fried eel with some flour. And yeah, thats must be salty because usually u eat that with rice. Try come to Padang, Sumatra for foods. or Jakarta, u can try all food around Indonesia if u can find the location. If u come here dont forget to try rendang, eat at Padang restaurant, sate, soto, nasi goreng, bakso, mie goreng/rebus, mie aceh, for vegie u can eat gado2, ketoprak, pecel. Try kelapa muda too (coconut water). For dessert try martabak manis/asin, putu, serabi/surabi, all kind of sweet porridge, jajanan pasar, kolak pisang/labu. Most Indonesian foods have heavy flavor and spicy. And for u guys i recommend to eat at restaurant or cafe for heavy food because they serve it nicely and the flavor not to much heavy for west people tongue. Of course the lokal person love to eat that in street markets. U can find thats all food on the street too, because thats common food to eat in here. Thanks for come to Indonesia and try our foods. Hope u guys can enjoyed stay here 😊

i think that i might need to explain some of those food...warning, i'm not food expert but i am a local foodlovers. 9:43 i think it was tfried tofu, should be nit spicy, maybe it got spicy from sauce of other food. the rice called 'ketupat', it's like rice dumpling, can be made from sticky rice too, almost same like lontong. it used to be rice for ramadhan, you mayy it those with other meat, veggie, etc. than it was 'tempe orek' tempe fried with nuts or maybe enchovies, it taste usually sweet but can be made spicy also. the drink called 'Teh Botol', literally Teh is Tea and Botol si Bottle. next on the cup, i'm not quite sure but i think it was 'bubur sumsum', made from rice flour and mixed it with palm sugar. Lol, it hitnk you need to bite the edge a little bit of that sugar plastic than pour it to the glas and mixed it. 12:06 we called it 'klepon' or some called 'onde-onde', it's like rice cake coated with coconut filled with palm sugar, watch out eating it when still hot. deep fried bananas it is. and the last is 13:15 i think it was 'kue talam' or 'talam cake' made from mixed flour. something that you didn't eat on 12:02, the long green cake, it was called 'dadar gulung' a rice flor cake filled with sweet grated coconut. 13:46 ayam panggang is grilled chicken. And the rest was well explained. 16.10 i don't think it was snail..though it wasn't clear for me, but i gues it was intestines, not sure. 17:07 yes it was fried tempe. 17:31 is fried tofu filled with veggies like carrots, bean sprout, etc. and the drink we called 'sop buah' or fruit soup. it was a few kind of fruit in it also jellies with ice, sugar and maybe condense milk. i hope helps you to understand Indonesian food...sorry i post it too long

U guys have to learn a little bit bahasa that we can use daily. I'm Indonesia. And thank you for promote indonesian street food. You Guys eat 1. Ayam Panggang and Babi Guling 2. Vegetarian food : the rice that you say with good packaging we call it "KETUPAT" in bahasa. 3. And the dessert : the green one like a ball with coconut outside and sugar inside is "KLEPON" in Bahasa. And another green is "dadar gulung" thats sweet because there is coconut and something sweet inside. I think thats Sugar. 4. And the KingingIt eat : we call it "GORENGAN" There are Tofu, Tempe, and many more mixing over there. You guys have to try eat that with SAMBAL. Thats perfect. Thats not snails. I dont know what it is but i make sure thats not SNAIL. hehehehe. Thank you.

The crunchy thing you guys ate was eel. They're small eels (usually from the muds in rice fields), deep fried in seasoned batter.

@@calichef1962 Ashley makes me uncomfortable. I feel like her bubbliness is fake and over the top. After two vids I couldn't watch anymore. The Flying the Nest couple are very English/Euro-centric. They feel entitled to having people know English and they don't really have any idea how to meld with locals. They are invested in the resort experience and not really into understanding local culture. That last couple - the Kinging It - I've never heard of before but they look like a mess. I'd rather stick to The Endless Adventure, Mark Wiens, and the Food Ranger. At least they have the sense to learn a bit of the language and don't expect the culture to cater to their Western ways.

You may want to seek counseling. Getting angry at the mere _sight_ of a vegetable you don't like isn't normal. A good therapist could probably help you desensitize yourself to something as harmless as a Brussels sprout. After all, it's just a tiny cabbage. It looks the same and tastes the same, it's just little.

Hi... It's nice to watch your video... I'm Dwi and I live in Gianyar, close to the market that you visited... It's little bit difficult to find a vegetarian option on the market, however close to the market there is a place called Semebaung has a really good local vegetarian warung (small restaurant) And by the way on nasi campur with Ayam panggang, the one that you like is made by egg not pork and the last food I believe it's "lindung" small eel 😁 hope you enjoy your holiday in Bali

so Pepes in this video is actually spiced fish usually tongkol (little tuna like fish) wrapped in banana leaves and mixed with sambal and then you roast it usually in charcoal. it's delicious and go well with rice. there's also tofu pepes, made of tofu and chicken pepes as well. the cake made of potato we called it Kue Lumpur, it is a pancake actually but made with potato mixed with coconut juice. that black square jelly is cincao, it's actually originated from China, the jelly was made from certain kind of grass, and it has a healing effect. the fried fritters we called it here as gorengan, it consists of deep fried tempe, bean sprout and cabbage stuffed tofu, deep fried banana, fried wrapped banana (molen) and deep fried sweet potato. and the last one is deep fried eel, you are supposed to eat it with rice so it wont taste too salty and spicy.. sorry for the long comment
