“When there’s lightning, I can swim in my pool. When it's a rainy day, I can swim in my pool. When it's just nasty outside, I can swim in my pool. My pool indoors is consistent.”- Josh Johnson
“For me, the outdoor pool has represented a lifestyle. Because a pool day is a sunny day. We are drinking a nice beverage, we’re out here just judging others, really taking in the scene.” - Dulcé Sloan
It’s an “aquatic argument” of indoor vs. outdoor pools, this week on Hold Up with Daily Show correspondent Dulcé Sloan and writer Josh Johnson.

You two together are truly brilliant. Hold Up is my KZfaq happy place. When they do "The Golden Age of KZfaq" retrospective, Hold Up will have to be in the mix, or I'ma need to know the reason why. Regarding the question of the day, I'm with Josh all the way up to, but NOT including, "Grind, Grind, Ground", because "Feed, clothe and pool your family" is some kinda beautiful. Thanks again for another great show.

All joking aside, the more of these I watch, the more I am actually inspired to grind. I’ve never cared much about making money, and that’s been to my own detriment. I work as a lifeguard as one of the things I do at work; there are advantages to indoor and outdoor pools. I personally like outdoor mainly because like she said you don’t get the humidity and fumes from the chemicals. I will say indoor you don’t have worry about the weather really. Where I work we have an indoor waterpark that runs all year long.

Hello there 15 year life guard here. The smell of chlorine that you get hit with at an indoor pool isn't actually the chlorine. It's the chlorine after it has combined with the gross stuff in the pool, called combined chlorine and chloramines. If it's burning your eyes and a really overwhelming smell, that means that that indoor pool is highly used, And probably not kept the cleanest. An outdoor pool smells less like combined chlorine because the sun burns off the chlorine before it gets a chance to work. Basically an outdoor pool is less chlorinated than an indoor pool for that reason. You still aren't supposed to swim in an indoor pool if there's lightning because lightning can travel through glass, the ground, metal pipes, and the water itself. Final point in addition to an outdoor pool being less clean than an indoor pool chemically speaking, Don't forget all of the leaves and the bugs that fly into your pool and die and rot not to mention the daily animals that are flying into your pool and dying. You don't want to know how many dead mice, dead rats, dead frogs et cetera that I have pulled out of an outdoor pool.

I will take an indoor pool all day, every day. Period. You don't have to deal with bugs/leaves/twigs/reptiles/animals, or weather occurrences like tornadoes/hurricanes/snow/ice/storms, plus A/C and heat!!. Back in the day, when they used to have MTV Cribs, Ice-T had an LA mansion with an indoor pool hat had sliding glass "walls" that converted the indoor pool to an outdoor pool (look it up- he abandoned he mansion). Dulce and Josh would both love it !!

I have been swimming for 44 years indoors and out. I prefer outdoors in salt water .. also I enjoy diving into an eight foot deep pool at friends places. I used to swim a mile every day outdoors at 6am for years at YMCA. I have since suffered rotator cuff injuries twice and a dislocated shoulder so I now need at least six feet to do water aerobics because I can no longer swim laps like I used to.

I agree with Josh. Pools are for indoor people. Outdoor people have oceans and lakes. An outdoor pool is a less satisfying version of an actual body of water. You can have windows in the indoor pool room if you really want to see outside.

Josh is CORRECT on this one, for once. If it's your home pool, because you're paying taxes on those inground pools all year round, so it's going inside so I can use it year round, even in warm climates because if it's a heat wave or something. Please less cleaning work, and you don't have to worry about someone trespassing in your backyard and drowning in your pool and yes even though they are trespassing you are responsible for them almost dying and they can sue you, so put your pool inside! If it humid and muggy in the room it might not be built correctly, and you can do a salt water or mineral water pool instead of chlorine.

An indoor/outdoor pool is the best of both worlds. There was a house years ago that had an indoor/outdoor pool where the enclosure around the pool could be opened and closed depending on the season or weather. It had a remote to where the ceiling and walls could open or close and it could also me done manually. If there is an indoor/outdoor pool sometimes you can keep the ceiling closed and open the walls keeping screens open but not having it completely open similar to what was shown for the screened in pool. An in-ground pool can be better than above ground, because it can’t be knocked over or end up messed up based on how it’s assembled. As for the LA life, many of them may do nights or computer types of trabajas. As for the dream pool there should be an indoor/outdoor pool with a hot tub near it and a fireplace or fire pit with a bar, it could be saltwater or chlorine with a nice blue color not red. When the pool is indoor it could look like an aquarium or beach with a waterfall, but done right.

An indoor pool has the same amount of chlorine as an outdoor pool, but it just smells stronger because it’s indoors. When outdoors you don’t smell the pool the same way because of the fresh air.
@homefry84
@homefry84 Жыл бұрын
@@bluetinsel7099 because the sun isn't doing any of it's natural disinfecting on an indoor pool you have to add more chemicals to mitigate the extra bacterial growth, the lack of solar disinfectant means you have to add more chemicals no matter that the concentration levels are "supposed" to be the same
@bluetinsel7099
@bluetinsel7099 Жыл бұрын
@@homefry84 Having looked after both indoor and outdoor pools they use the same amount of chlorine unless one is bigger than the other. The larger one would take more chlorine and the smaller would take less. If in a public pool there could be more chlorine on both indoor or outdoor based on events that happen in the pool such as soiling from the mouth or bottom. If that happens then the contents in the pool have to be removed by skimmer then extra chlorine is added and it can’t be used for a number of hours. Ph test are done on both indoor and outdoor pools and often times in an indoor pool there are window panes as ceilings to let natural light in. So when you are in an indoor pool it seems as if there is more chlorine because of the smell of it. There is no fresh air circulating inside so it comes off as more chlorine when it’s really the same levels as an outdoor pool. Also with outdoor pools even with the sun debris can get into a pool and cause it to grow bacteria to where it has to be shocked to keep it proper if not regularly taken care of. So when indoors the smell of chlorine is definitely more prevalent than when outdoors because of the natural air flow not being indoors.
@homefry84
@homefry84 Жыл бұрын
@@bluetinsel7099the lack of Ultraviolet disinfection means you have to shock more algae out of an indoor pool, more chemicals used to keep the same amount of water "clean" in an indoor vs outdoor pool and since even the most fastidious pool maintenance usually errs on the side of caution there will be higher residual levels left in the indoor water pretty much always. Indoor pools inevitably use more chlorine and have higher concentrations left over as a result.

Someone on KZfaq... I wanna say Mark Rober, but maybe not him... proved that swimming pools that are chlorinated at the proper proportion to the amount of water in the pool DO NOT HAVE A SMELL. You don't smell the chlorine in a chlorinated pool if the proportions of chlorine to water are correct. If you smell a chlorine smell at any sort of pool, especially a public pool, that means that someone has peed in the water. So the worse the chlorine smell......... I'm just sayin'...
