People take all of this way too seriously. Coatings don't provide UV protection or really even protect the paint. They make cleaning easier, they are glossy and slick. So at the end of the day they are just visual enhancements for the paint. Watching people arguing what coating provides the best "protection" is actually comical. A lot of these KZfaqrs have no clue what these Coatings really do and it shows, because they only worry about the beading behavior as if that's offering true protection in the end. Keep preaching Jimbo. These so called pros repeating all these false claims from big brands is starting to catch up to them. These same people say the coating bottle is so expensive but it's the pro racking the buyer or clients over the coals for the big bucks. It's just car washing and detailing at the end of the day but holy cow people go nuts defending these big brands and fighting each other in detailing forums over these products that don't even provide substantial protection

The sad part is, we actually get people talking bad about us when we say we aren't releasing a certain type of product because we don't believe we can make one that competes or is better than whats currently available. So I can see where other brands may struggle to overcome that objection.@@autodetailingpodcast

I can definitely see the pull to just release more products. I think it’s more credible to not release stuff than to have a line of 100000 products. But then again I could be 100% wrong. Haha. Time will tell I suppose.

A professional relationship with a distributor or manufacturer better mean you are getting marketing funds, training, special pricing, maybe even a website. If you aren't getting anything in return that adds value to the relationship, you are being taken advantage of and are really just a consumer. Jimbo, i think you have the credibility to come out with a popular line of products. You aren't just some random youtuber. I look forward to what the future brings.

You hit the nail on transparency truth and honesty is being missed. I know the frustration especially when asked which detailing brand is the best. Or who makes the best detailing products! Not one brand makes the best everything. Just some do better than others in certain cases. Example Ceramic Glass cleaner like rainX. I don't use any of them but if I do I'll grab rainX. Or just use an actual sealant on glass after I clean the glass. Appreciate the podcast. I like brands with minimal products like 10-15 products and that's about it. That depends if it's a coating company or just car cleaning products

Thank you, I started detailing about two or three years ago and have been saying this since then. A lot of these “consumer grade products” produce the same results if not better than some of these “pro grade” products, the biggest difference in my opinion, is ease of use and durability/longevity overall rather than accessibility or weather or not u need to be certified to buy and use it.

Sadly the term ' Pro or Professional' grade products is alluring to both consumers, PRO and DIY. A few years ago I knew a detailer that wanted one of the big names, but to get that you had to be 'certified' in that brand. Okay you pay the class price and then they give you a exclusive for a given area but then you commit to purchasing a set level over a given period. He skipped that offer and while lost the glamor of being a authorized shop was a short ding, he still offered great products and services. Now these days the companies have a professional line and then a similar consumer marketed product. Funny how they both offer a 3-year coating in each...hummmm.

I just finished watching your video. As a long-time subscriber, I was upset when I heard in the past videos about you starting a product line. I remember you said that small brands trying to compete against the giants in the industry with chemists and scientists was not a good move. I thought you sold out on us. How could I trust you with making reviews now? However, this video completely changed my mind. Everything you said resonated with me on the current state of the market, and who better to create a line than the most honest guy in this sphere? Your experience in the field, combined with the insight gained from the people behind some of these leading brands, puts you in the perfect spot to launch this. Thank you, Jimbo. I grew up in northwest GA and I saw this happen in the carpet mills. A mill would offer a new line to retailers with a $10,000 buy in and exclusive styles and pricing. A year later the same mill is selling the exclusive carpets for less than what those who paid to buy in. The terms professional and consumer grade are manipulated in my opinion. When I started asking around about professional grade coatings some manufacturers definitely gave me the cold shoulder. In my mind I was thinking how does this manufacturer know the new employee is going to do a better job than me. I had to turn to newer companies looking for installers who appreciated quality work more than selling a professional franchise. I tested coatings for years before settling in one a coating for my business which I am just now launching. I learned a lot during this time and am better off today. One way I judge professional grade is if the product has to be sanded off versus polishing. This may not be true but this is something I can say differentiates itself over consumer coatings. Good luck with your product line and I will be looking to see what products you launch.

Jimbo there’s a company making KZfaq waves recently that are calling their coatings “certified” and “non certified”. I literally busted out laughing. I’ve tried a few of that brand’s offerings and found they work well. They might be able to market their two coatings differently in relation to the % of solids in them (like just highlighting that and making recommendations based on coating experience), but I’d say the results of the products speak for themselves. They also actively detail and communicate with their consumers and community, including on this video’s comments. I feel that says a lot, but I can also see what you’re saying

I see what you’re saying. It’s just not 100% true and most of the brands I worked with or helped didn’t want me to do that because of potential backlash to them. I’m not saying my products are going to be the savior of the world. There are so many products I like. I just think there has been an onslaught of sub-par products and it doesn’t have to be that way. But IMO a way to progress the industry is to challenge those sub-par products with actual good ones.

Great topic Jimbo! As a consumer I can see some benefits of having a professional install a ceramic coating. A professional detailer will always do a better job prepping, and might be more thorough on the install due to experience. The question remains, what is the end users expectation? I just coated 3 of our vehicles (Adams, DIY & Cerakote) before winter hit and absolutely stoked with the results, especially with maintenance washes.

I think when showcasing a products abilities, especially when you bring your own products out, you just show how YOURS performs and not against any other competing brands product. I could watch a torture test video with 5 different products on a panel but then wonder how well the other products were applied and cured. Ive seen a few torture test videos where a dozen coatings were applied to a panel and put through their paces. Coincidentally the ones that perfomed really well were also products of what some people might consider friends of theirs as theyve regularly featured on each others channels. Keep the controversy out of it and just show me what yours does and why i should consider buying it. I dont want to go through again, reapplying coatings out of my own pocket because i watched some dufus produce a hollywood style product promotion when they'd never done their own testing on it and never bothered to apologise for it.

I guess the professional thing could apply to the detailer/installer as well. What makes a detailer professional besides that is what they are doing to make a living. It doesn’t make them better or worse, that person could be really bad at detailing but be the only one in the market so they are the professional, until someone better comes in takes over. I guess it really boils down to trial and error. Find the products that work and use them. Try the products, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Is the company going to stand behind their product/work? If yes great, if no, move on. It is an interesting space to follow. Keep on pushing Jimbo!

Also how much better are the pro products v the consumer products these days? I think the difference if any is very narrow. Please understand when I speak of consumer I am talking about quality detailing products available to the consumer and not just the stuff you get down at the auto parts store. I do think there are a few products that are only available to professionals but there are consumer grade products that that are available that are as good or better.

Hey Jimbo, 2 questions for you. Re Pro vs consumer grade coatings, ive been using DIY Detail and Brians Blue Collar coatings. Ive got competition near me who use products like CSU that provide 9 year warranties and state that their product is so strong that it needs to be wet sanded to remove etc. But their price is 2 to 3 times what I'd charge for say a DIY 5 year coating. Would you consider this to be a valid pro vs consumer grade comparison.? Secondly when you bring your products out, how will i get it in Australia? Will you have a supplier here or would i order from you directly? Cheers mate

You’ll be able to order directly, I just set up shipping and taxes for that. Ultimately for me, my clients look to me for advice on what coating would be best for them. If you are having success with the brands mentioned and your clients are happy I would stick with them

I believe anything and everything should be available to everyone. just add a "click the check box to accept responsibility if you install wrong or it doesn't come out right. it's on you, not the seller or mfgs fault you messed up." that's all they have to do brands need to reduce the amount of products and just supply good ones and a few that do many things. more multi use products like a ceramic all around detailer for interior and exterior, that can clean glass and dash and doors in one step. if I dilute PS interior 3 to 1 although they say 1 to 1...I find it cleans less but I get to clean the interior glass without streaking and that means a lot I can do the whole interior with one product I don't want to carry more than 5 or 6 bottles with me and keep it organized with just a couple good items. also make it affordable. some of these ph soaps are like 80$ a gallon when MEGUIRES hyper wash is 24 dollars and u only need to use 1 oz or less. be honest and provide quality products services and info at a reasonable price and u will be successful!

Consumer marketed product has to cater for the 99% stupid factor for forgiveness. Only release the KISS System 1 month for general protection 6 month for seasonal protection 12 month for people who are in extreme condition's areas. And if it hits those time frame's. You will get returning customers.

They spent 25% of it talking about their new products and 75% of it catering to the professional market. “Culture” is important to an extent, but what’s going to sell me (as a driveway diy’er) on your products and brand is product performance and innovation, and nothing else.

One of the main issue is the over saturation of youtubers claiming to be detailers but NOT real detailers l(which are about 80% +) that are being caught up with the narrative of manufacturers claim and not real world testing/ experience from themselves which in turn provides wrong info that are not well versed or equip with the product and or topic AND the misinfo they share will be accepted as true and the norm, if no one contradicts. Give it a few months or years it will become the industry standard lol! Id say take everything with a grain of salt and use a good amount of common sense and the rest for entertainment purposes only.

I appreciate ur time and effort and courage to bring this type of topics out in the open because imho the detailing world is headed into a chaos of misinformation and the right people that knows and are wealth of info have either left or simply are out numbered by people doing videos for profit which is fine but detailing originated from passion first and the quest for perfection that simply equates a lot of experience, time and focus, u can't just jump in and just because lol. Factor this all and the public is now armed with misinformation and will not be respectful in paying for a detailers time and skills which kills a true detailers livelihood because someone on youtube said shared their tips and tricks and now considered as everyone can do it which is true in a way but having real world knowledge and experience in actually doing it is a different story lol. And from a forever student of detailing to another I Can't wait and will definitely support ur new venture.@@autodetailingpodcast

Well, I am glad finally someone on KZfaq has told it like it is. Most of it is BS. So he and a bunch of other detailers blowing smoke up each other's butts just got spanked. Raving about this Cericoat product even Pan goes to the factory, and guess what. IT SUCKS! He tells everyone how great that company is and they make all these coatings for other people. OK riddel me this Batman. If this is a company's that only makes coatings then how the heck does this stuff fail? Then Pan and the others do this video on what they said the company should do versus trying the product Themselves testing it and coming off with their own deal. Pan did this after this big advertisement he did for the company telling people how great it is. These guys need to toss themselves under the bus. So then here is the kicker. They say that the company should get detaillers to test their stuff. Oh, and I am sure that's free NOT! But instead blame the company for your bad review and recommendation. So what does Pan do to get out of a bad review? Bring on the CEO of the Ceracoat for an apology. DUDE ITS TO LATE! If I had polished a car and put this product on it and it failed and I have to repolish and recoat? I am dam sure not going to use this company's products. Give me a refund? How about paying me for my time. So back to this detailer video roundtable. As I mentioned they suggest what the company should do.,WHICH WAS THEIR JOB IN THE FIRST PLACE NOT BELIEVING THE MARKETING STUFF! One of the detailers says this. I polished a customer car once and put this experimental coating on it and it cracked all over and I had to spend countless hours repolishing and recoating with something else. THIS GUY IS NOT VERY SMART. Why the heck would you use a prototype product on a customer's car unless you were testing it and the customer didn't care. NOT SMART! for instance if the car was trashed and for doing it with the coating I won't charge you. So back to Pan and his deal. He has spent his entire time on KZfaq rating products and how to do it. Then has his year product best of. Be then puts out a video saying that whatever product you use you should stick to one company. Why? He says it's all compatible. First, if companies made their products to only work with their products they would be out of business. Even Ivan Lacroix says all detailing products are compatible for the most part. So why do we need this best of? This is just the tip of the iceberg as you know and THANK YOU for telling it like it is. Marketing BS. So not to rag on Pan because he does have some useful content but now all these guys are just repeating everything and as I said blowing smoke up each other's rears. The industry has done it to themselves as you say.

Look just say it like it is. It's your opinion and that's the out. But you mentioned P&S and for me, they made very mediocre products for years. So they pay Renny Doyle to come on board to give them validity. Most of their stuff is still mediocre in my opinion. I worked in the industry for 7 years fro a company so i know how things are blended. Every manufacturer has access to the chemicals that everyone else uses. So now it comes down to the chemist and how much and at what temp etc etc. I could go on and on but it's just bringing up what you have already mentioned. Just do the best you can and grab your slice of the ever-shrinking pie.@@autodetailingpodcast
