2010, Road to Recovery Event: Byron Katie brings her work to Liverpool in an exclusive presentation for Inexcess TV.
With a room full of drug workers, therapists and service users Byron Katie delivers the Work and challenges some of the preconceptions of how people work and relate to each other.
This second session deals with family relationships. We all know that our loved ones can sometimes be hurtful: Do people mean what they say? How do we react to the things they say? Who would we be without those thoughts?
You can see the first session in full, and all the parts of this session here: www.inexcess.tv...
Described by Time Magazine as A spiritual innovator for the new millennium, and by the Times as having laser like tough love that burns away all illusion, Byron Katies presentation is fascinating for all people who are finding the work place challenging and who are unsure about the changing landscape in the treatment/recovery world.

Have been at this only for a month and find it fascinating. Had my first facilitation over the phone a few weeks ago...lots of crying and laughing...and difficult. Very difficult; nothing in life worth having is easy and this untethered journey through life is so bizarre...it's like letting go of every safety rope to realize one can stand on air...yet it feels like walking on the edge of a knife because fear and loathing is so powerful and tricky. So grateful for people who work at this...lol 'The Work' - it's so simple and called that for a reason. Grateful for the workers working on the work. 😁🍀💗👏

The Work isn't about stopping our thoughts. In fact, Byron Katie often says to people she's facilitating "I'm not asking you to drop the thought". The process is about questioning the thoughts with the four questions, and then deeply considering the turned-around thought to have the experience of a different perspective that could be at least as true, if not truer, than the original thought. Another quote from BK: "I don't let go of thoughts. I question them, then they let go of me".

It's not really to stop having thoughts, but to stop believing in them as "solid truth". And it's not easy that's true, we get caught up. So that's why it's good to do it by writing and with the worksheet. The work by Byron Katie, t's a method. Instead of fighting, we star to simply acknowledge what is going on. I sincerely recommend you to try, I did it a lot on my own. You can download the worksheets on her site, and look on youtube how she works. It's worths it.

Its going to hurt, but you need to understand that you can't make someone take interest in you, and your life. You can't force her.

I don't understand how one can just completely stop having thoughts...it's almost like supressing feelings....It would be wonderful to be able to do this, but how many of us actually CAN...sometimes you just can't fight your feelings, or stop a thought in your head...especially when one is feeling hurt, rejected, etc....letting go sounds so easy, but in actuality, it's very difficult

It's not about stopping the thoughts. It's about questioning them. You endeed can't stop the thoughts. It's impossible.

may be you want to look up Eckhart Tolle. It's the same content but presentated differently.

Louise Hay talks about this stuff a lot-Abraham/Ester Hicks too...Mooji, Tara Brach and whatsisname who wrote 'Erroneous Zones'...they all have lots of free content on KZfaq. It all sounds weird at first...just keep at it and it'll make more sense with time. Anything new takes 10,000 hours to master and this is the most difficult things to master ever; our own minds - you got this. Believe!

Well, when her sister is saying "I don't want to be in your company." then it doesn't makes sense to call her recently. Respecting borders.

@refi68 Find a local community group, (I could not find on so I started one) Ask a friend who is interested if you can trade the work on each other. Katie says at first don't try to do this on yourself at first for our mind will justify and rationalize it. We want to be right at the cost of being happy. Good luck!

'Right instead of happy.' Interesting. Louise Hay talks about this as well.

Yeah. I feel that too. Katie mentions that sometimes a wound is too raw to do the work...that if someone was just raped she wouldn't go 'oh! Is it true?' rather she would sit there with that person and be with them and not try to make them do any work on themselves at that time.
