Thank you so much, was really helpful. In our ED, we use a threshold of 30% before given fluids.

Yes, it seems to me it should be the reverse. Inspiration results in DECREASED intrathoracic pressure and increased venous return. Unless everything I learned at medical school is wrong.

Yes you are right. In spontaneously breathing patient, during inspiration, Intrathoracic pressure decreased with will increases venous return to the heart, briefly collapsing the IVC. During Exhalation increased intrathoracic pressure will decreases venous return and the IVC returns to its baseline diameter. But in ventilated patient -during insufflation, the intra-thoracic pressure is positive and therefore reducing venous return and IVC expands. During expiration, intra-thoracic pressure is much lower, leading to increase of right atrium filling from the IVC which collapses.. In summary -Spontaneously breathing: Inspiration IVC collapses, Exhalation IVC dilated -Ventilated patients: Insufflation IVC dilates, expiration IVC collapses

What is the significance of knowing your collapsibility index for spontaneous breathing individuals and can BMI influence collapsibility index? Pls i need ur response
