Inferno is like the sorcerer counterpart to regular / other dragons being wizards. Instead of practicing, gathering magic items or having someone bless him with power, he just woke up, chose violence and decided "I'm the strongest now."

Smaug is a joke in comparison. Hes like an ancient red dragon at best. Even compared to dragons of his verse, he just kinda stands out as the last of the powerful ones

@hulm hochberg Yeah, compared to the dragons of earlier ages, Smaug is rather unimpressive. Ancalagon the Black, on the other hand, would probably be comparable to or even more powerful than the strongest dragons of Faerûn.

@Lonely Strategos Ancalagon is incredibly huge and powerful at the highest estimates, based on Tolkiens notes. I would argue, assuming these higher estimates, he'd dwarf Inferno

@@hulmhochberg8129 If you’re talking about the movie Smaug: he’s 1.5-2x larger than inferno. Oh, and by the way, Smaug’s horde would be about equivalent to 200 BILLION gold pieces in DND at an absolute minimum. WotC needs to start putting in the effort on their volumes, 100,000 GP for Inferno’s bed wouldn’t even be enough to hold him.

I like the idea of Inferno messaging an adventurer to send them on a quest that Inferno couldn't be bothered to do. "Go here, get this artifact (with the expectation of risking your life), and bring it to one of my lairs. If you don't, I'll burn you and everyone you know." Inferno regularly scries on them and watches their adventure for amusement as they work to increase his wealth.

It's funny how different Inferno is from the other dragons. Everyone else in this series has elaborate schemes and paranoia, whereas Inferno is just above all that because his overwhelming power means he has nothing to fear.

As someone who got into D&D in 5th edition, I love learning about all of these interesting and unique dragons. It's also hilarious to me looking at Fizban's statblock for Great Wyrms and seeing how laughably childish the Chromatic Great Wyrm is compared to what Inferno's capable of.

Inferno!!!! It's my guy Inferno!!!!!!! It's interesting how two of the most powerful dragons (Daurgothoth and Inferno) don't really do much outside of their lair like Iymrith or Arveiturace. Inferno also, as you mentioned, breaks the tradition of Dragons being exceptional because of external factors. Inferno is simply the most dragony dragon out there.

I love this dragon, he’s just so hilariously powerful and it’s beautiful, if he were allowed to I can just imagine him taking the most comically weak 1st level spell and casting it at 13th level just to show he can kill you with anything, casts catapult and fires a 70lb boulder at someone, casts destroy water and just destroys 140 gallons of water from a lake, or just for the sheer hilarity, casts fire ball at max level just for fun, he is truly the peak of what it means to be a sorcerer

Same, lol. In my setting, My parallel to Inferno solo'ed the 4 layers of Hell, barely leaving any for the Draconic legions under his command, allowed the Dragons to more efficiently set up staging grounds in hell and was generally pivotal to many a draconic extra universal invasion.

I think people hear "100 000 gold coins" and think "omg! That's a lot!" but if he's using it as a bed, that's like…1 to 3 layers of coins…he has a lot of surface area he'd need for a bed and coins are very small…

These stupidly powerful dragons are SO FUKING COOL They are at a level of power that put them nearly on par with lesser gods, and yet you might actually meet them. Even talk with them, having a pleasant conversation...all withouth knowing it. Or knowing it and turning a lot of pants brown in the process.

This series of Dragons is making me reflect on the Dragon Overlords from Dragonlance. 5 massive Chromatic dragons ranging from 300 to 400 feet long. The strongest of the bunch, the red Dragon Malystrix has a CR of 39 if I remember correctly. They come from a different world, where Dragons rule and are the size of average adults as infants. The Overlords were supposedly SMALL compared to other dragons on their planet. If the "small" ones are that big, and their power is relative to the likes of Inferno and Tchazzar (off by one CR) then I'm terrified of what the large ones would be like. Heck. I'd be terrified of the AVERAGE ones.

@@bobbyrabii6119 Well Cyan wasn't one of the overlords, he was just a really powerful ancient dragon. But Khellendros is probably my favorite dragon in D&D period. As divisive as the New Age Trilogy was, it really made me love him, whereas before I just thought he was decent. It reached a point where I was actually rooting for him to succeed, and got genuinely mad at Takhisis for betraying him.

Man, watching these videos and watching some of the things that were possible in 3.5 get reduced to 5e comparisons really hurts. Like I often wonder if 5e players (who didn't previously play 3e) can even comprehend the level of shenanigans this CR40 dragon could accomplish with it's Epic Level abilities. It's one of the things that I miss most from 3e era, the truly insane things Epic Level style creatures could do.

Tbf as a DM, you could make it part of the mythos of truly ancient creatures of high magic that they follow the rules of 3.5e rather than 5e - that way their primordial power seems almost incomprehensable/incomparable to newer creatures operating by the rules of lesser magics. It's kindof like how Courage the Cowardly dog would occasionally switch up the animation styles for some of its creepier villains to make them eldritch compared to the rest of the show. It's basically your way of saying 'you can't win this fight, your best hope is survival' that's can make even high level parties realise they're still small fish on a cosmic scale.

dont forget that he can 7 times a day choose to use wish to replicate ANY spell and not suffer the drawbacks of wish. so he could easily choose any radiant spell or otherwise to wipe out things that are resistant to fire.

13th level spell slots?!? Those are literal god level spells! How is Mystra okay with that? Okay, for quickened spells, but still insane! To make Inferno more dangerous I'd give his fire breath attacks the ability to turn immunity to resistance and ignore resistance, because it's so effing hot.

I agree, even 11th level spells are well into god tier. I believe a 13th level spell was used to permanently affect the entirety of the magic underlying the universe according to canon.

Mystra doesn't interfere directly with a magic user's power, she just doesn't allow the existence 13th level spells so at the end those 13th level spell slots only can be used to empower lower level spells

The table I'm running is about to hit Castle Naerytar for the first time. These videos plus the Dragon Hoard book from your store are really going to flush out our campaign. Your armor redesign is now table law. Your videos are the law and history of our tables. As the DM I have your DnD Lore playlist run at night. I built a Commander Deck with Inferno as the Commander. It's fun to come out of nowhere and shoot your opponent for a ton of damage out of nowhere. I am happy to find this video, I get to learn more about this powerfully mean dragon Edit: Inferno alone could destroy a entire economy with just the amount of gold he has.

To that end, I have built a pretty significant "hoard" of Dragon figures that I've been collecting for over 30 years ( if there's a significant Dragon carved in plastic, I own it. ) I'm once more cruising through your vids and since I consider you one of the most eminent scholars of D&D on the planet, I enjoy each and every vid you post both for entertainment and knowledge. The people of Faerune should be much for afraid of Inferno than Daurgothoth in my opinion. Daurgothoth seems perfect content to advance and study magic, and only occasionally does he become a threat. Inferno is a red dragon without the downsides of being a red dragon. No pride to wound or play into, no allies or weak points to strike. Very little paranoia, but retaining the cunning and stratigic mind. The only reason he has never been taken seriously is because of his hermit nature. But now, as the video states, he is finding entertainment in the outside world. Who knows when he'll finally decide to become more...hands on...

For people in Faerun both Inferno and Daurgothoth are pretty much never exist, not even as lore. Both did really good job at hiding their existence.

For those wondering how insane Inferno would be in 5e. Just a rough conversion of a base Great Wyrm. CR 28, HP 714 (with average rolls honestly at this point I would do max HP for the creature 1020) Chance to hit +20, Breath Weapon 156 average damage. AC 23. Inferno would be a 42ish CR in 5e. So a +12 Prof, 1320 HP AC 30 is the best answer I can give you because he has a natural ac of 60 in 3.5 and a normal great wyrm has a 39. I would love an epic level book so that something like this is even an idea to fight.

Would love to see a video covering Iron Dragons, more specifically the sovereign of ferrous dragons Gruaghlothor! If I remember correctly, some Iron Dragons can cast a ritual to be possessed by Gruaghlothor's power, but I know absolutely nothing else about him.

You know, rewatching this video gave me an idea, a red draconic sorceress or a dragon warlock from your book that wishes to serve Inferno and spread his name and infamy throughout not only the sword coast, but the whole a Faerun, not necessarily an evil character but just someone who wishes to learn from, at least in her mind, the mightiest red dragon in this side of Toril, thank you for the great lore content and making me into my true dragon nerd form that I always wished to be

When the dnd mtg set first came out I got a collectors pack and went to a friends house. I opened it and got the foil inferno card from it and immediately made a commander deck around him. He’s my favorite dragon!
