Infinifactory is a 2015 3D sandbox puzzle game where you are abducted by aliens and forced to create complex machines to produce equipment matching specific templates. The machines are constructed through the strategic arrangement of primitive blocks, akin to Minecraft, including conveyor belts, sensors, actuators, and logic gates. While the narrative is charming and fun, it's not essential and plays a very small role the roughly 30 hour playtime.
The main appeal of the game is it's challenge. The puzzles are all well designed, and you are given a lot of creativity and freedom in finding your own solutions. It contains over 50 puzzles, and although there is a learning curve, they get very technical extremely quickly. The game also evaluates your solution efficiency compared to other players, really pushing you to improve and find optimal solutions. This is helped by the exceptionally straight forward interface and the solid controls. All this leads to an engaging and satisfying experience, if you have the patience and drive.
It won't appeal to everyone however. The game lacks a proper tutorial, and many of the blocks will not work how you expect, or have properties you need to discover through trial-and-error. Many players will find the game frustratingly difficult, and tedious when making the numerous small adjustments to make the more complex solutions work as intended. It also feels repetitive at times, as you have to build similar structures or deal with partial solutions over and over. The game lacks some basic quality of life features too that would make it more enjoyable, such as a reset option, additional logic gates, or a copy and paste function.
In summary, it's a well made game that will really appeal to those seeking complex and challenging engineering problems, but it does demand a lot of patience.

The game has an undo/redo option. It doesn't communicate it that well, but it's there. You can see the keybindings in the options menu.

This is a good review for a good game. Zachtronics have made a lot of really great puzzle games. This is one of their earlier ones. I keep seeing people act like this is a bad version of Factorio and they're missing the point. It's a puzzle game, not a factory builder.

Well, you put factory in the game and people are going to draw parallels. Infinifactory did release a year earlier, though I'd expected something other than what I got when I got it free on epic. Thankfully only some time wasted, though I could do more in pre-microshaft minecraft and felt less constrained.

@@daviddavidson2357 it's fine to like it dislike the game on its merits but you're judging it based on what it isn't and never tried to be. Whatever you can do with Minecraft and mods is cool. But it's not this. It's like looking at a bicycle and saying it sucks because you can move way more stuff with a car and a trailer. Just because they both have wheels doesn't mean they're intended to do the same thing.

Free on epic this week but if you already have minecraft i would recommend adding some factorio like mods to it and play that

Too tedious for me, would rather do level design and I find that tedious AF too.

Anybody know how to actually start this sh*t game? It literally just shows me a black screen with what I guess is background music of the game for eternity. And it definitely is not my computer. Its high end, every game works, drivers updated.
