For the people who didn’t understand was that the little gap in the chocolate when he cut it is equivalent to the piece of chocolate to took out I liked my own comment

So I did this on graph paper, took a 6cmx4cm rectangle and cut exactly like you said. When I rearranged the pieces I found out 2.5 mm of height was short...so a strip of 4cm x 2.5 mm was missing....which has an area of 1cm equal to the chunk I removed....but i'd say go ahead and do this to your friends chocolate because ain't nobody noticing that difference

I think that when you cut the pieces that was a line in the middle so I think when you connected the pieces in a different order that was a little bit of a gap in the chocolate so maybe if the extra piece of chocolate goes in the middle then it will probably fill out the whole chocolate bar like it was in the beginning.

Yep it is a simple solve since you cut the chocolate at presumably 45 degree angle the bar at the far left will be 4 pieces long will the furthest column on the right will only be 3 so by removing the top piece of the far right column and moving what's left the the far right column and taking the far right column and moving it left by 1 pice you get what seems to be the same size chocolate bar with an extra piece however the overall length of the chocolate bar is reduced by 1/4 a single pice in length but at such a small scale it is hard to see the difference

I think I've figured it out. The reason why it appears that he multiplied it is because he swapped the right piece and left piece (piece he cut one off of). The left piece (new right piece) Is already 3 pieces long, so it fits normally (besides for the fact that there is no middle piece to separate the chocolate and is therefore pushed down a little. The right piece (new left piece) is is where the illusion comes into play. It's a little bit above where it was before the shuffle, as you can easily compare and see that there is a larger gap between the bottom half and top half of the chocolate, but by being pushed up, above where it was before, it appears to look like the same size.

I've been doing this with the same bar of chocolate for 6 months. It is never ending.

You’re slowly shortening the entire block. As you can see, the third block on the right is shorter than it originally was

It's an integral problem. You see the area of the one piece remaining is exactly the area of the in between space of the cuts, so basically if you try to do the cut as perfect as possible the in between space of the integral (limes x ->0) convergates towards the one piece. In other words it just looks like the before but it's not.

This has the same energy as a kid who pushes around the food the don’t like on their plate to make it look like they ate more than they did.

The middle pieces are getting smaller .. that is what it happens , but by little , so it isn’t very obvious .. and by combining them , if you remove the space of the cut and from the middle pieces , it remains one piece of chocolate. .. so it’s basically like you cut it from the middle row in an irregular way , then assembled it in to a piece.

Can we just appreciate that this guy got to the point of the video without wasting our time by begging for subs and likes? He saved the “subscribe and like” thing for the end and kept it brief. I love channels like that.

Technically if you perfectly align it, you will notice a wedge of chocolate missing and that is the "extra" part seen , you can prove this by taking the whole chocolate bar and weighing it, cut it that way and assemble it and measure, you will notice the difference in weight is equal to the "extra" mass of chocolate. To explain it simple. The line in the middle is a bit empty. That is the the extra block of chocolate.

So the crack in the chocolate bar is where the small piece left over would go like if were re- shaped

When you find a way to get 1 extra chocolate piece
