I have an early 2013 JX35 built in late 2012 and has no problems with the stock CVT. I have 189K on it right now and still purring/whining like a kitten.

I have a 2014 that has minor shuddering at low speeds or on very bumpy roads. The bottom line is the shuddering is common to CVTs, no matter who makes it, because it's an innate feature/flaw. A CVT is designed to hunt for certain gear ratios...which is sometimes good and other times bad. Typically the shudder is most pronounced at low speeds/RPMs, typically 15-25 mph and 800-1200 RPMs. Feedback/response issues will occur at in this condition when combined with variable road conditions. Another problem/feature of this transmission is that it will reduce power to preserve itself. Heavy acceleration on uneven/bumpy roads (or steep inclines) will cause a loss of power as the CVT tries to safely manage torque and stress. In most cases you have to ease your foot off the gas and then reapply power. Note: I gun my QX60 all the time and get no shudder whatsoever. This QX60 in the video clearly has a major issue not addressed by a transmission swap.

We have a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum AWD and the shutter on ours began at around 7k miles. I kept driving it like that until 21k miles when the recall came out to replace the control module early this year I believe which was determined by Nissan to cause this shutter problem. They replaced the module, inspected the CVT chain and flushed/replaced the CVT oil plus extended the warranty to 8 years. So far our PF has been shutter and trouble free after this recall. I do not know if your has already been taken care of but I am now very happy with the PF.

I heard about these problems so I waited for the 2015 model. I had a 2015 premium plus I bought brand new and had absolutely no problems with it. I unfortunately totaled it when it only had 10k miles. Then I bought a 2015 deluxe with 12k miles. It now has 26k and runs great! It's a daily driver, weekend and road trip car. Get a 2015 or newer!

I leased a 2014 QX60 and had absolutely NO problems at all! I do remember getting the CVT updated due to that recall and the car drove better afterwards but certainly wasn't broken in the first place! Shocked to see the reliability ratings. Had 5 Infiniti's now between the family and they have all been great cars. Turned in the QX60 with 35,000 miles

My 17 blew its transmission at 15k. Dealer told me they found an extra bolt floating around that caused the failure. After watching your video it seems this wasn't a one time incident. I was thinking of buying it out, but now I know I'll release a new qx.

I had a 2015 QX60 on lease, no problems, having a CVT had some getting used to. Finally traded in the 2015 for the new 2018 QX60, love this SUV and transmission has better configuration.

SO GLAD I watched this video before looking further into purchasing a 2014 QX60...I thought the fact that the low mileage on the car was a plus, this being 2018. I appreciate the time you took to put this vlog review together. For curiosity sake, I'm going ask the dealer about the transmission.

I looked at the Pathfinder back in 2013 but I'm glad I went with the Mazda cx9, a better price and fun to drive with no problems

Had a Nissan Pathfinder, same issue. There was a class action suit against the company in the U.S. I turned mine in under the Lemon Law. Nissan / Infinity had this issue for years and does nothing about but produce more junk CVT transmissions.

I am currently dealing with this issue in my 2015 QX60. The dealership is giving me the run around. My car is still covered under warranty. The shudder finally happened while the tech was driving it, he said it was the fuel pump or transmission. They changed the fuel pump, it still did the stutter. Took it back they flushed the transmission and it continues to have the same problem. I have opened my 2nd claim with corporate

just rebuilt my 2014 CVT at a transmissions specialist in Torrance, CA (Atlas Transmission). he described my problem even before I could describe my problem. $2500 and 1 week and the car is now driving like it should. extended warranty was @ 92K miles for transmission. I brought it into dealer at 98k miles and they wouldn't help me out. good luck everyone.

Thanks for the video. Just hit 100k miles a few weeks ago in our 2014 QX60 (Hybrid AWD) on the way to the dealership for it's third transmission. Second transmission lasted 22k miles. We were lucky to have purchased the 120k extended warranty.

Same here, I bought 2014 Infiniti qx60 and had been to the Infiniti dealer to fix my transmission for 4 times so far.

This problem is now fixed for the 2014, no issues on mine presently

My wife has the SAME EXACT issues. And at first they did a software update to resolve it... temporary fix. Now the stutter is apparent.

I have the same exact problem.Bought brand new 2014 qx60. Problem is getting worse. Dealership acting like it's unique problem to me. They must know this is an issue and Infiniti won't fix it properly it seems. Sounds like we need a class action.

My car is currently in the Infiniti shop for the same issue. I almost got rear ended on the freeway when my car started losing speed and started juddering and jerking then completely died. I had it towed into the shop and after running diagnostic they told me that the cvt transmission scan came out negative. My quote to get this fix since I am out of warranty will be around $2500!! I've had this judder and lost of acceleration issue around the 2nd year but not so serious. I brought it in for routine maintenance over the years and mentioned it to infiniti a few times but they never updated the software.This is obviously a major problem as well as a safety issue.

I guess this is why these go for around $20-25k slightly used. I love my altima but I need something bigger. Cars nowadays always have secrets kept by the dealers.

2014 was a bad year.......by 2015 everything was ironed out. I bought a 2015 after driving a 2014, it's like a night and day difference.

We have the same issue. I believe that the issue is the transmission not down shifting fast enough. If you are familiar with driving a manual transmission, you will know that if your RPM is too low for the gear it will buck and possibly cut out. Every time our vehicle shudders, I switch it to manual and find that it is in like 5th or 6th gear. At 20mph, it should be in 2nd gear. When driven in manual, it won't shudder. this is an issue that infinity needs to fix. Can we pursue infinity like how Honda eventually had to recall their airbags? Does anyone know a public official that can shed some light on maybe a class action suit against them to resolve this problem?

I have jx35 from New.. No problems at 21k miles. Love the car but I had to get used to the cat rollback and lagging gear changes. I have offroaded her several times. No towing, ever!!

Wrong. The transmission throws 2 codes with this "judder". When you bring it into the dealership they will scan it. If one of the codes pop up valve body gets dropped and the chain inside the transmission is checked. If there is scoring on the chain brand new transmission from Infiniti. If no scoring is found valve body is replaced. New system software is installed and TCM is updated. No problems found after the repair is done.

I just bought a jx35 from CarMax in Loveland. Need to take it to same dealership for airbag recall. There is a sound from the left side(passenger side) of the engine. But not a whine like that. It sounds like a H.I.D. light ballist whistle/hum

I have the 2013 JX35 which I bought new and I seem to be having a similar issue. When I accelerate, it seems like I am driving over gravel then smooths out. This is in standard and ECO mode, I have not tried it in Sport or snow. This started in 2020 for me.

I bought a 2013 Sentra not realizing it was the one I inspected beforehand and wasn't going to buy, it had the trans whine. No other problems were there, just the whining trans. We nicknamed it CHAINSAW....LOL.

I have a '13 jx35 and the cvt is what it is. In sport mode, it will try to simulate gear changes under heavy throttle. Maybe thats what the jerking is. In normal mode, its just a cvt that stays with high rpm under heavy throttle. I think its normal to run like this.

Have the Dealership do a CVT software update. My shudder problem on my 2014 QX60 immediately went away afterwards. My Hybrid drives like a Dream now. I might be lucky but my Rep says he have seen good luck from this update.

I was about to go to dealer for a 14 model... looks like I’m gonna have to skip it and go to the 15 model... hopefully there’s less chances... that shuddering problem is unacceptable... shocked Infiniti did not do a recall on it... they could easily get someone killed with that problem...

The problem with CVT transmissions is not a matter of if you would have transmission problems it's a matter of when. Its inevitable. Avoid anything from Nissian/ Renault

Ironic that you open the book to "cars to avoid" and they had the audi a4. I have an a4 that seems to have the same transmission problem starting. guess the moral of the story is to not get a CVT.

I jx35 fwd with same problem. They need to be recalled! My wife same vehicle with Awd they replaced transmission no problems yet. I can only drive in standard not sport problem still there just not as much. Not sure why they didn’t replace my transmission they keep saying there’s codes they added and test bring it back next oil change.

2014 QX60 Hybread w 142K miles, transmission failure and dealer wants 13K for a trans they can not gets as it is on extended back order. Not right!

That's why I opted out of a CVT transmission. I had my eyes on the Pathfinder but because it the CVT, I got a QX50.

5 years later what type of issues did the MDX give you?

Just purchased a 2014 QX60 about 30 days ago. Test drove for short drive and drove fine. Started traveling and it is now a nightmare. Transmission slipping like crazy!! Absolutely no warranty. Can't tell me dealership did not know!!! Now have long term payments and a car that won't last another 6 months if that long. Don't know what I will do. First car purchase since year 2000. Any suggestions??

The CVT is gone the engine should not have to work that hard to get up too speed.

Nissan and infinities are total waste of money i have a Nissan Juke which after 70k miles transmission went out and had to put new transmission and now Nissan Altima same problem. Spend your hard earn money somewhere else.

Had the problem with nissan altima 2017..trasmission stops to work at 61k miles only 1k miles out of warranty..nissan charge me 3500 for a refurbished transmission..keep away from nissan and infinity!!!

2017 qx60 sounds like a 1980 piece of junk... nice and shinny but, u can hear it a block away.... thank god this is a lease... this car has had tons of issue and has got repogram... and serviced stilll a piece a crap

I will say I have LOVED (actually we) this car until we found out our 15’ model had this issue. Super pissed about it, but Infiniti gave us a huge incentive towards a new car and guess what we bought! Lol-this is coming from a chick that tried EVERY 7 passenger luxury SUV-by far this is the best-not flash news-all the luxury SUV’s have issues. Just sucks I happened to be one that got a big issue!
