Today we're playing Torchlight Brigade in live fire conditions at a local games day. The list began as a meme but I think it has some play.

I just came back to this because I wanted to compare notes on playing Acquisition and noticed that the BatRep is mislabeled and the first game is actually Frontline. Still thanks for the effort your went through in tagging all the Batreps with the mission names, helps me a lot with game prep!

Thanks for the catch - I'll update the video description and title :)

Mate, I'm traveling and I cannot watch as much content as you put out right now 😂 I will get to it when I'm back home. Keep up the good work!

I did the calculations and that Azrail had only a 37.5% chance to win the Prime FtF and 16.2% chance to one-shot. I love me some dice games. Shame that he accidently got Saladin placed in peril. Thank you again for your wonderful analysis and walk through of your decision processes.

Regarding what you said about Raveneye Officers and holomask being public information, would having it holomask as the 12 point Raveneye Officer profile with E/M mines and no holomask be legal/accomplish anything or is it still too obvious?
@R0bertShepherd3 ай бұрын
It would be legal but doesn't accomplish much, unfortunately. You aren't allowed to embellish when you holomask, so you'd be holomasking as a 12pt minelayer raveneye with 3 mines remaining (i.e. you can't holomask as "a raveneye with 2 mines left"). So if you *do* use minelayer, you're conspicuously a 3-mine raveneye standing near a camo marker that can't be much other than a mine deployed with minelayer, or if you *don't* use minelayer your opponent is very likely to ask why you're leaving that proverbial money on the table and deduce that it's the lieutenant trying to conceal him or herself.

I've observed a couple of the better options for masking the Raveneye Lt+1 is either as a Beast Hunter FTO, which can be effective if you already have the Camo BH, or just a standard Raveneye. Great battle reports, and you brought up what I noticed while listbuilding for TLB. My backup gun has been the Stormbot FTO; cheap for what it is, and a fine wildcard for a haris.
@R0bertShepherd3 ай бұрын
The problem with the beasthunter FTO is that you would be holomasking as a minelayer profile with 3 mines remaining, as you can't holomask as "a beasthunter FTO with two mines left", so it's an *extremely* clear telegraph. The standard raveneye has the same issue. A stormbot is definitely something I need to get around to playing. :)
@avirgint81013 ай бұрын
@@R0bertShepherd That's actually crazy, I hadn't realized it worked that way. With that in mind the solo Prime Lt is looking a lot more appealing. For the Stormbot you're pretty much right on the money cost-wise for other HI with HRLs so it's very efficient. Kludgers seem like a natural addition to its fireteam but paying for above average shooting on a troop with an SMG is... not amazing. At least they make up for it with decent mobility.

Having played 7 or so games with TB (including a 3 round event) I've found that there are a couple good choices for hiding thr raveney lt. If you want it in a fireteam just hide it as another raveneye (maybe pretend to try a cybermine raveneye). The other is to have a camo beast hunter in yhe same group as a solo raveneye lt and then hiding the raveneye lt as a cheap 9pt beasthunter. It is harder to catch, and even may trick an opponent into eating an e/m mine that they thought was just an ap mine
@R0bertShepherd3 ай бұрын
What do you do when your opponent asks how many mines your Lt holomasked as a different raveneye or beasthunter has has, and you have to say 3?
@obyiscushobbyandgaming3 ай бұрын
@@R0bertShepherd wink and say well played :P And then smile as they try to kill the Ment on the otherside too of they want to try and lt kill. And then occasionally run a raveneye chain of command to really screw with them if they start asking too often
@R0bertShepherd3 ай бұрын
@@obyiscushobbyandgaming so this will be a matter of personal approach but my general take with public information and holomask is that you've got a positive duty to point out discrepancies where you're holomasking. This includes things like stealth and move values (e.g. "this 6-2 move unit just moved 4-4" or "this model without stealth is using stealth") which extends to noting the number of mines you have (which is a positive duty anyway, e.g. you have to say "this beasthunter has two mines" when you deploy one using minelay). For this reason I avoid holomasking as profiles which obviously highlight the lieutenant and just lean toward stuff that might be in the DZ anyway, and otherwise deploy in a location where there are multiple candidates. Waveriders have been a good one, or Ment agents, that kind of stuff. But it's been a surprisingly small list.
@Space_Ranger3 ай бұрын
I think a good holomask for the Raveneye Lt. is as a Ment. The opponent will then think the Prime is the Lt. Also as a regular Raveneye! Regular ones can't be Lt.
@R0bertShepherd3 ай бұрын
The problem with pretending to be a regular raveneye - or indeed any isolated troop - is that you have to leave minelayer money on the table. Which is fine but hurts me a bit emotionally. And I definitely wouldn't pretend to be a regular raveneye because deploying a raveneye with minelayer and EM mines and leaving all three mines on it is a HARD telegraph that that's the Lt profile. (And you can't holomask as "a raveneye with only 2 mines left", so you end up looking like a non-lieutenant raveneye with 3 mines hanging out near a camo marker, i.e. a super obvious Lt.)
@inaneimp43143 ай бұрын
@@R0bertShepherd you make this work a little if you have 2 models within 8" of the Mine. But that's an uncommonly high number of S2 unlinked models in your DZ that don't already have their own mine.
@R0bertShepherd3 ай бұрын
@@inaneimp4314 yeah in this case I just stuck him in the middle of the linkable models and put the mine down where any of them could be the Lt. But it felt mediocre.

Wait, how did the Azrail win the ftf but Saladin still got hit with the template? Isn't the template applied only if the shot won the ftf? Or am I missing/misunderstanding something? 21:30
@krobiekong43263 ай бұрын
See the Infinity wiki rules for "Impact Template Weapons". Specifically, the phrase "The Trooper who declared the Attack compares this Roll against each enemy Trooper affected by the Template individually. Each enemy Trooper affected by the template resolves their Face to Face Roll completely independently of each other. The Face to Face Roll of one affected enemy Trooper cannot affect the Face to Face Rolls of the others." So in the game, the Azrail won its FtF, but Saladin lost his and died.
