OK I learnt some stuff from this, even though I don't play Caledonians. I DO play Hassasins who use McMurrough, the goodest boy. Can I request a Hassasin faction focus? I'm interested in hearing thoughts on the Sunduqbut, I think it's very expensive for what's usually a reactive piece (meaning the opponent can choose which tools it brings to this gunfight and the manner in which they come), but maybe I'm missing something?

As much as I can see the power of this list, it makes me sad that it utilizes only so few units of the sectorial. Basically you only need Fusiliers, Blades, Bolts, Bulleteers, a Squalo and some Auxilia. Kinda heartbreaking to see so many flavorful NCA staples not make the cut anymore (Hexas, Swiss Guards, Aquila etc.)

Today we're responding to a channel supporter request and playing a very solid, standard Neoterran list against a very solid, standard(ish) Haqqislam list. That means a core link team which, despite not typically being the kind of piece I play with much, is going to force something like thirty separate ARM and BTS rolls from my opponent this game. Which I think kind of definitionally has to qualify as an ok performance.
@Ninjat1263 күн бұрын
Pure theorycraft, but I could see the T2 Mormaer as a really scary suppressive fire piece. X-visor helps it shoot and suppress to a longer range (32"/24") without penalty, it's threatening to do a bunch of damage, and it can keep suppressing until it takes 2 wounds. I wouldn't like to see it take on a B2 Nanopulser or anything, it's not the ultimate standard in firepower, but it could do a decent job of holding a sightline?

I learned a few really good tips from this video that will make playing my highlanders even more fun. Like making proper use of Wallace's coordinated order for getting the Cameronians up the field. I am also definitely going to give the 4 Wulvers + Donn core a go. Watch out whoever plays me next!
@SuperFeerose4 күн бұрын
Hey @R0bertShephard This is my first time watching one of your videos. A friend of mine sent it my way because I main Highlanders. the changes in N4 made the faction much more enjoyable in my opinion. I liked most of what you said about the faction, but there are a few things I want to mention that weren't talked about. I've been playing Highlanders since I started playing in N3 around 2018ish. generally I do well in events as well. talking rules and theory with the players in my area is something I greatly enjoy, so I hope this info isn't annoying. I enjoyed the video. Wallace making all troops regular is very important. coordinated orders can only be used if all troops in the order are irregular or regular. you cannot mix and match. this means your coordination is much more versatile. this also means you can choose a normally irregular troop as your datatracker, master breacher, or the ITS equivalent (it is pretty mean when he gets an extra order and bonus dodge or D-charges). At the end during the list talk, you mentioned that you want to use his LT order to coordinate the Cameronian and SAS. you didn't mention this, but I wanted to point out that Wallace MUST be part of the coordinated order. Uxia MSV1 can be very good. she has smoke and can shoot shotgun templates through it while the enemy is taking dodges on -3. the specialist option cannot have B2 in aro with the pistols. but if you use the pistols in CC you will have +1 burst, again only in active turn. Mormaers these are very strong and often overlooked because of the single wound. damage 17 and AP is very good against just about anything. they hit harder than they have any right for and with 8 armor in cover against anything without AP they tend to survive when they miss. the Rifle option is one of the best models in highlanders. it is a Damage 15 AP T2 rifle. I disagree that Mormaers are a "meme" troop and it regularly hits hard in my games, the chain colts are amazing as well considering they are damage 15 with AP. I bring the HMG in a haris and a solo T2 rifle. the T2 rifle option is something I regularly move up and put in suppressive fire. with the X visor it has no -3 band and in cover you still have the 8 armor, if it fails a save it goes dogged and keeps being a problem. Most commonly it will kill something when they try to remove it as they are at a -6 due to my cover and suppression before any bonuses they have, even if I am shooting B3 on 10's. Isobel Great troop. has many points of versatility. T2 rifle is strong, E/M mines help alot with heavies and tags. Wulver you mention they are pretty much a heavy and cannot be hacked. I want to point out none of Caledonia's heavies can be hacked. that said, Wulvers are good, and if you run them up into their DZ, coordinated grenades are a good option. generally too expensive to take in my lists though. but I do see why people enjoy them. Cadin is good in the team as well. personally I don't use them anymore.

"I'm Robert Shepherd, and this is my favorite faction on the Citadel." Love your content Robert, we definitely have similar playstyles and faction interests! I'm definitely looking forward to your eventual video on Spiral Corps but am loving your faction focus series as a whole! As a rules question because I don't know, is using smoke always a face to face roll, or do you decide when you're throwing it? It's come up a few times in recent games and we've generally just kind of shrugged and moved along because it isn't super clear to us as new players/players coming from N2 when it is or isn't possible.
@R0bertShepherd4 күн бұрын
It's determined by where the smoke template is placed. If the smoke template is placed in a way that blocks LOF between the smoke thrower and the person shooting them, it becomes face to face. If it's not obscuring that LOF, it's a normal roll. So for example you can sometimes use this to make a sacrifice play to get smoke down to cover other troopers, if you intentionally throw the smoke in a way where it's covering them but not you.
@spenceriglinski47714 күн бұрын
@@R0bertShepherd Ahh that makes a ton of sense! I was wondering what the difference was. So the act of smoking at your feet in ARO would actually be a F2F roll because it blocks line of fire - I've seen people use this trick in games I've seen online and it seems very useful.

The rule reads "Unless a Special Skill, Equipment or scenario rule states otherwise, AROs always have B1. In such a situation, if the Reactive Trooper has a Burst value higher than one in ARO, they cannot split it amongst different targets." This means that if a weapon or model has a +1B in thier statline you get it ARO along with any +1B for Fireteams.

Hey Rob, brilliant video as always. Just wanted to say you missed the part in the Cameronian AVA where it specifies "General army". I'm pretty sure this refers to what most of us call vanilla lists, so you can actually take three cameronians and McMurrough legally in a CHA army. Very weird wording, but otherwise the AVA 3 cameronian doesn't make sense (especially since mcmurrough is a personality and doesn't count towards these limits). Edit: Also you mentioned Usia is B2 in ARO but burst mods are only an active turn bonus sadly!

Today we're covering the one of Infinity's small miracles - a faction that has no right to go as hard as it does in N4, the Caledonian Highlander Army. My personal favourite Ariadnan subfaction, the Scots have all the limitations of both an Ariadnan army and an N3-era designed sectorial, but within that niche they have some absolute killer profiles and a playstyle that's worth a lot of attention. I had big plans for this video's intro, but KZfaq had a fit about the Scottish National Anthem being copyrighted, so you can enjoy just the intro separately here before diving into the video proper: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLBkhrme1c7alIE.html

Speaking up for the Namurr, its CC profile READS like it's designed to slap TAGs and HI platforms that don't do too good in CC. Run in, dodge the TAG's emergency pistol/flamer, tank it if you have to, E/M it with your CCW, then move on.

NB: I've brought the Namurr to exactly 1 game and this situation never came up. But I also forgot the Namurr was +1B in CC with D-Charges, not just the E/M CCW. I've also played against O-12 a little lately, and my opponent has been bringing a bunch of troopers that are ideal Namurr prey. Betatroopers, Gammas, Omegas, certain Silverstars & the Prime. I.e. Stuff that can't stop a 2W Namurr from getting into melee, won't beat it in CC, get immobilised when they lose, and cost a bunch of points.

I've played a bit of IA here and there. Still trying to wrap my head around how some pieces are used. However, I do have to shoutout some of the sillier options they have available. Like the 2 Yuan Huo + haidao sniper haris. I haven't tried it yet, but I feel like there might be some merit playing it more like vanilla Yu Jing and taking advantage of the smaller fireteams. I've been wanting to try the forward fireteam where they're both minelayers. Krit actually has two options for the minelayer drop. Either a E/M mine or a deployable repeater. While you also get the krazy koala from the Hulang. Since you didn't mention it. The Shang Ji hacker actually looks pretty good. In a fireteam that's a BTS 6 hacker behind a -6 firewall, which sounds rather hard to dislodge (presuming you can spare the points).

If there was a zhuyong hacker I'd probably have extolled its virtues linked with a tinbot -6 model, so that's a good point. The hacker shang ji is still *very* expensive, but it's not totally unaffordable and the synergy there is strong.

To both hacking as well as E/M. It's a theme that just can't be played in todays game. Actually not great when it first started either. And not really on theme when most of your IA armies are made up of mostly Zhanshi core teams. Tinbots don't help that much. My enemy knows to kill them first. The only KHD is the Haidao, who doesn't count as an Invincible and has BTS 0. White Banner with the addition of Daebak, now Out Invicibles, the Invincible Army.

Hey, thanks for the video (and shout-out). I know this video was difficult to create since you don't play IA a lot, but I do and I felt like I was at the limit of what my capabilities can do with the faction. That's why I asked it, because I wanted someone with more expertise in the game to talk about the faction I main. Unfortunately, and this isn't your fault, you've explained and touched upon the prefered Profiles I already knew about the faction. I've been playing this faction for almost 2y, so I've already found which profiles work and which don't. This just means I have a good understanding of the faction and it's just my tactics and/or bad luck holding me back. Thanks again for your time and effort into making this video. I appreciate it. ❤
@R0bertShepherd12 күн бұрын
This video was always going to be a bit limited by my own experience, but I would suggest you be open to the possibility that it's the limitations of the faction that are your major restricting factor. Invincible army just straight up lacks tools other factions would use to regularly engage with certain problems cleanly and that narrow capability range puts you in situations where you're fighting the dice, table, opponent, scenario, *and* your own army. Managing four of those at once makes infinity challenging; the fifth means you need one of the others to give and sometimes they just don't. If you're open to using your existing models with different rules, I think torchlight delivers the same fantasy but without as many obstacles to play.
@Psyqhical12 күн бұрын
@@R0bertShepherd yeah, TB has been tempting me and I already painted my IA blue, might as well commit. 🤣 How is your experience with them? 😋
@R0bertShepherd11 күн бұрын
@@Psyqhical still a little surface level at this point (4-5 games with, about the same number against) but my impressions have been really good. They let you go heavily in on the heavy infantry orders and links military power armour fantasy, *but* with a couple of major distinctions compared to Invincible Army: 1. firstly, they have a broader range of profiles including some absolutely fantastic defensive options (lots of different minelayer profiles and some relatively cheap midfield auxillary elements in particular gives you a strong addition to a layered defence which IA totally lacks). 2. secondly, they have access to much cleaner tools for going in after enemy hacking defences. Models like the beasthunter give you a way of solving repeater defences without getting any worse than targeted, but more importantly they can really pro-actively attack enemy hackers in their own deployment zones thanks to waverider killer hackers. These troops fill the space of something like a haidao but while they don't have the effective extra wound, they have pitchers which lets them throw their repeaters out to go after enemy hackers on favourable terms. This means that it's going to be very rare to find a situation where Torchlight is stonewalled at the matchup level against certain lists. There will be some change you can make, some little extra flexibility you can include, some line of play you can take because it only cost you 15pts to add it to a list rather than 50pts. It's been a really solid experience overall.
