Running random ledstrip animation, nothing special. I’m going to make 2 for above the dinner table. After the other is finished, i need to map all led’s to coordinates and some logic for corners so i can flow patterns through the dodecahedrons. Since i’ll have 2, i can map both and make patterns going between the two.

Very cool! The infinity effect on other infinity cubes I've seen look dull and warpy, did you use real two way glass or acrylic with film on yours?

This is a thing of beauty. I think my best creation. It is 4mm thick glass one way mirror, everything is soldered together and i use 4mm wide led strip with 300 leds per meter. I have 5 or 6 standard animation and i can switch it on my phone. Also i have an adaptive mode that reads the colors of other lights in the room and uses these to blend in naturally. I should really make a video to show all this, the video you commented on was just in the development stage. But it’s now above my kitchen table showing all it’s glory 😎 You can download the code from my github if you like to try it yourself.

@@cesar8023 You can buy them on Etsy, but none look as good as mine 😛 I would have to sell them at over 1000€ each if you look at the amount of work and i also used expensive high quality material. I’m not sure people will pay this and then what if an led fails? Would i need to fix that and pay for time, shipping, parts etc… I’m not sure i want those headaches…. Maybe i could try it out if someone would offer to buy one…. Maybe…

I didn’t record much, so there is not much to show…. I was soldering mostly outside because there is a ton of solder needed and soldering and recording at the same time is hard to do… I have the code on for free on github. I’ll have a look if i can make some sort of video, but i’m kinda slow in those things…

Wow this looks amazingly good. I also noticed that your infinity effect looks very crisp and nice compared to some other projects that use foil or acrylic and tend to look foggy. I already saw that you got it from Brigla (thanks, I was looking for a vendor in germany for days and didn't come across this one). Did you get them cut in custom shape or did you do it yourself? Sid you get the Mirropane Chrome Spy or the Mirastar? I saw your video right in time. I was about to order some 3mm acrylic mirrorpane from amazon for almost more than what they take for the glass ones.

Glass is the way to go if you want the best effect 🤩 I cut all my glass myself, i did send a cutting plan to Brigla, but it was too expensive for me. Like 5 times the price without cutting. They have a sample kit you can buy to see the different types of 2 way mirror they have. And when you make an order they refund the sample kit. I used the chrom spy, but there was another mirror that would also have worked, maybe even better. What will you make?

@@MaltWhiskey I will try my hands on an dodecahedron with pentagons as faces, roughly 15cm length for the edges. I am planning a frame in Fusion360 for 3D printing and I will probably go with 12V WS2815 144/m LEDs. I like the ones you are using though. Never came across those. But they look like they are a pain in the a** to cut and solder. Did you solder or are there connectors available? Would you recommend them? If I wanted to use these 300/m ones that would sum up to 1350 LEDs in my build. I read that they luckily have a much lower Power consumption though so it would still only add up to 100W. How many LEDs can I put in a row before I can expect visible voltage drop? Would there be problems with that many LED and the controller? I haven't researched that far yet but I think I read something about 800kHz and low fps with too many LED... I ordered the sample package today. I also asked for a quote for a custom cut and it wasn't even too bad. If I bought the panes to cut them myself the cheapest option would be to get one big pane for all 12 pieces. This way you need the least m². It would cost 150€ for a 65*100cm one including delivery. But a pane that big is hard to handle, the pentagons are really cramped with little room for error and I would need to buy a glass cutter. Their quote for a custom cut was 290€ incl. delivery. It is still double the price but I am thinking of taking it. I know myself, I will screw up and end up buying an extra pane anyway if I do it XD (sorry for writing a wall of text but I am interested in your experience)

@@sokka50 The 4mm strips i used were hard to solder, and you can only cut them in specific places. The 12v led strip will probably control 3 leds as to use the 12v instead of individually, but this will be good for your FPS. You can use more data channels to increase fps. Look up the signal time in the datasheet and calculate the fps for the amount of leds. I control 170 leds with each power connection (6 total), more than that will impact the color due to voltage drop. I found out by connecting 2 full strips (300 leds) and measuring the voltage drop at specific places, so try it out first. I control 2040 leds with 1 esp32 and still get 70 to 90 fps so1350 would be fine. I have a 50A 5V power supply, but my build is glass and solder. Not sure if a 3D print will melt (or use ABS instead of PLA?) I made a 3d printed template and a bought a stack of rectangular glass. For each rombus i needed only 1 cut (2 for the first and last), so it was easy to do. Cutting pentagons would be much harder. The price doesn’t seem that bad… Please share your build/experience. I didn’t record soldering the glass frame, and i regret it… It would be nice to see 🤗

@@MaltWhiskey Actually the WS2815 model has a chip for every LED and can address every single one. It can also be cut after each Pixel. Yes but first I have to do some research on how all that works and what fps/signal time even mean and how they work together. Right now I have almost no knowledge about that aspect. Are your 2040 leds all on one Datapin of the controller? I will have a total of 4,5m of LED strip and I am planning for multiple power injection points. There should be no segment longer than 1m. While researching your ws2812c 2020 variety I found a strip with 198/m and 8mm wide. I think it's a good compromise. It's around the same price as yours on aliexpress but cheaper delivery and I think I can handle the 8mm width better when it comes to soldering. shop.allnetchina.cn/products/high-density-ws2812c-2020-led-strip?variant=39406605926502 since these high density strips 5V are more expensive than the planned 12V I decided to try my luck with cutting the glass myself. btw the chrome spy was the best choice. Their second option is very reflective from both sides, so as soon as there is a little bit of light on the outside, you would have a lot of reflections. I noticed a design flaw on my frame which I have to correct before I can order a sample but yes I also noticed that PLA might not work. Unfortunately I will be very busy with other things the next weeks so I have to delay this for a while. But I will try documenting it.
