If somebody has some nice animations for this kind of led object (C++ esp32/arduino). Please let me know. I have a limited time to code anything so borrowing has my preference :)

if you are using Fastled, you might want to look into WLED, it got tons of animations and they are customizable so you can adjust them to your project. also you can use fastled code to add custom animations if that is not enough for you. i used it for an infinity cube and tons of other projects (take a look at my channel, there are some examples) would you mind if i ask you how you constructed the frame for this? with my infinity cube i had the issue of having to solder some wires inside the cube which was no fun at all around 3d printed parts and (expensive-ish) 2 way mirror acrylic, i can not imagine doing that with WS2812C strips. edit: also if you have issues with WLED there is a great subreddit and also there is a version that does support audio reactive features.

@@m3phisto23 The other day someone asked me how i build my frame. Well it’s not 3D printed. There is no plastic inside except for a few wires. I used copper foil on glass 2 way mirror and soldered them together. There are no wires visible because of smart power and signal routing (that gave me a bit of a headache to figure out) The data line is 0.20mm laminated copper wire. And i use 6 points for 5v. The chassis is the GND this is solder and thick copper wire inside (no plastic, i made it black by using patina) The power wires are invisible because of my secret double bottom.
@m3phisto23
@m3phisto23 2 жыл бұрын
@@MaltWhiskey that is a brilliant way to build it! but doesn't the chassis being ground make it a bit dangerous? or is the patina isolating?
@MaltWhiskey
@MaltWhiskey 2 жыл бұрын
@@m3phisto23 Why would that make it dangerous? The power supply is galvanically isolated and a brand. There are also 20A fuses for each dodecahedron. You can touch the chassis, it’s definitely not isolated, but no sparks not even static. You’d better not connect it to something that make’s a loop, that will pop the fuses if above 20A :P

Hey, MaltWhiskey! I am so glad that I came across your channel while doing research for my infinity cube. Mad respect not only for your build but also for you answering the questions in the comments. I also made a regular LED cube in the past so I also very much enjoyed seeing yours! I read all your replies under the four videos about the infinity cube and saw that you made some interesting design choices. I bought a sheet of the same glass you used and tried to cut it in 10cm squares using a cheap glass cutter from amazon. It did break correctly after the second try but little pieces of the glass chipped away at the edge taking some of the coating off. Luckily only talking about negligible millimeters, but maybe you have some tips for me. I also read that you soldered the glass together. Did you just stick a piece of copper tape on the edge with x millimeters over the glass and y millimeters in the air and then solder the tapes from adjecent edges together? Sounds too simple to be true :). My plan was to make custom PCBs for the LEDs that I can solder together to give some structure and 3D print a frame that I can screw together which will hold the glass and the frame made from PCBs. I think I will make a variant with 12 inner PCBs using the 2020 ws2812-c and make a variant with 24 inner PCBs using 5050 ws2812-c. Here are some work in progress images with 24 PCBs but 2020 LEDs (Frame will be printed in more pieces): imgur.com/a/VzHVp9N I would highly appreciate if you can give me advice based on your experiences. Thanks for sharing your build!

I got this technique from stained glass (plenty on YT). They use the copper tape and stick it on the edge. For example the glass i used is 4 mm thick, so you buy 8mm copper tape, with black on the inside and stick 2 mm, 4 mm, 2 mm on the glass edge (nothing in the air). Than just put them together and solder. I recently made this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9KEmZSa35ncmac.html it’s about the size you are making (used 6mm tape, with no tape sticking over on the inside). Don’t cut the mirror side, but the dark side, than you wont have chips, but it doesn’t really matter because of the tape on the edges. Don’t use electronics solder, since the rosin core makes the patina that oxidizes the solder uneffective (learnt that the hard way) you need something called soldering water.

@@MaltWhiskey O.O This is crazy! I was planning on sticking my led cube into the glass frame, once I have one, just as an experiment. Yours edges are extremely clean due to being so thin I must say! I will definitely look up some videos about the stained glass technique. Once again, I am so happy that I found somebody who is on the same journey as me (although, way more advanced). I'm glad I chose the same glass and LEDs as you coincidentally. BTW, have you thought about making a discord server for example to exchange Ideads about LED and infinity cubes? I guess it would be more structurized way less tedious than answering youtube comments... Thanks for sharing!

@@MaltWhiskey I just realized that if I stick copper tape on the glass I can solder it directly to my led PCBs. New possibilities unlocked :) I really need to tinker with that in CAD on the weekend.

@@movingpictures9308 I don’t mind aswering questions on YT, but my email is also on my profile page. Not a big fan of discord, but maybe that’s because i don’t know how to use it… If you solder your leds to the frame better watch out for shorts, but thats what i did with my dodecahedra. Gnd is on the frame, so i only need wires for the 5V.
