As a patient with ulcerative colitis, I've learned everything you said in this video through my experience with this disease. It really such a fascinating, but terrible disease. I try to use my experience to help others who are also suffering, and I've been starting to post videos about topics pertaining to IBD in general. Thanks for making this video for people who aren't aware of what it is!

There is much now being written about it thankfully!I wouldn't be able to cut and paste a whole paper here! With the paper that is currently being done at the University of Tasmania, it will be made even more obvious. "Cortisol levels held for prolonged periods of time cause: Lowered immunity & inflammatory responses in the body, slowed wound healing, and other health consequences" It's the increase of the white blood cells that do the damage. Just my understanding & I don't have Crohns anymore.

Thanks for the info! But I do have a question. I'm currently 46, when I was 20 I was first diagnosed with Crohn's, but then within weeks, it was switched to UC. When I was 21, my colon perforated, I was clinically dead from the toxic megacolon, but thankfully was revived. I endured several surgeries, first being a total colectomy with a temp loop ileostomy, then a three step J pouch. For many, many years I was ok, but began developing serious pouchitis around the age of 35. It just worse and worse, and despite having tried almost every drug therapy available, it only grew worse, so I decided that surgery was really my only option left. I opted for a K pouch, so in June 2012, Dr Zane Cohen here in Toronto removed the j pouch, my rectum, and some small bowel, and gave me a new K pouch. Since then, due to several complications, I went from a K pouch, to an end ileostomy, and back to a k pouch. But now, my original symptoms are back, could it be Crohn's after all? Have only 7' of SB left!

I have a question about a stool calprotectin. My daughter (10 yrs) had this test and her level came back 1,266!! After this test came back they called and moved up her other scope test. I'm worried now! I can tell you, I myself have Lupus and antiphospholipids. Does the calprotectin test only deal with IBD, or could her high numbers be due to lupus or something autoimmune? Can you tell me is this a very high level? Or do a lot of people test this high. Thanks for any information on this!!

I and my doctor have been trying to figure out what is wrong with me for the last two years. I have serious joint pain in my knee,hip, spine and shoulder, it's so bad it is debilitating. I have also had diarrhea problems for this long too, and have recently started taking a medication to treat colitis. And it's been a few weeks, I haven't had any stool problems since. I wonder if it is all linked after seeing this.

I'm not a doctor But I have had Ulcerative Colitis for almost 20 years. I have noticed that I have some joint issues. I get periods where everything is stiff and has a dull pain like I have been doing heavy work. As far as the diarrhea I have found stress to be a major cause. As far as you diet you really have to play around with what works best for you. When I was on a doctor recommened diet I felt awful. After I said screw it and ate what I wanted I felt better and was able to figure out exactly what my body can handle. For example ghost pepper hot sauce makes things settle down but things like salad will tare me up.

I got diagnosed just this year. My grandfather, mother, and brother all have Crohn's disease as well. My brother was diagnosed at a younger age than I did, he was 14 when he got diagnosed and I got diagnosed at 15. I went for a very long time with no symptoms, but then I got an infection and had to take antibiotics, so that may be what brought it out. I was lactose intolerant and got stomach aches for as long as I could remember, but I never thought it would be that. I hope you're doing well!

Are you medical practitioner or specialist in this area?! I'm an ex-Crohn's disease sufferer of 40 years and for the past 13 years I have been self-studying neuroscience and cell biology in order to help other sufferers drop this 'disease'. Crohn's, UC, colitis, ileitis are all just names. They are used to describe location of inflammation. As you said in the beginning, there is little known as to the causes. You've missed out the big one. Cortisol. Fight or Flight hormone. Causes inflammation.

@Potenti4lz
@Potenti4lz 7 жыл бұрын
darius rovere True I guess, but what triggers the Cancer to start? X-rays? Stress?
@Dariusant
@Dariusant 7 жыл бұрын
Potenti4lz Cancer occurs from mutations in cells. It can occur at different stages of the cells life as well. This is important to note when talking about cancers treatments. Chemotherapy for example cannot target a cell at its stem cell stage where radiation can. Back to cancer causes though many things can cause a cell to mutate: cigarette smoke, excessive alcohol, constant inflammation, bad air quality and even bad diet. Cancer also can occur in any area of the body where there is constant destruction of cells. Logically this makes sense because when there is constant destruction of cells their is constant creating of new cells. This is why cancer can occur there is constant new cells being formed so an increased chance of a mutation occurring. Cancer is just a mutation in a cell that causes the cell to rapidly divide and grow instead of only dividing when another cell dies.
