In high school I used to play a game with my friends called "useless superpowers" where you'd take turns coming up with superpowers that had some sort of limitation that made them way less cool. My favorite example: You can summon bears but can't control them. Anyway, I think "you have telekinesis but only on aluminum foil" would have been a strong entry for that game.

Honestly I need as many examples as I can get my hands on this sounds wonderful 💀✨ It reminds me of a game my friend and I came up with that has a similar concept; Minorly inconvenient curses, such as every 2nd time you leave the house, you get pooped on by a bird. It does not heavily affect your life, it’s just weird as hell and annoying.

This honestly reminds me of when i thought shifting was a real thing, when its actually just a bunch of teenagers saying random bullshit. I was in a bad place mentally, so the idea of being able to run away to whatever world i thought would be better sounded great on paper. Then of course you learn its a bunch of bullshit after humiliating yourself for about two weeks trying to do it. I was sad that i wasted all of my time doing something just to learn it wouldn't change anything, but it did also teach me a lesson on trying to find better ways of coping. These types of things are either kids just trying to have fun by pretending theyre magic, or teens and adults being assholes to people more vulnerable than them by making them believe in things that ultimately hold no merit.

Shifting is supposed to be lucid dreaming and/or willing dissociation. Its v odd to me that some ppl who practice it seem to think they're literally astral projecting. Thankfully when i was looking into it, i mostly saw ppl who were fully aware that it's not real, it's just vivid dreams and/or daydreaming/dissociation.

I mean, you can mentally "shift" to another world. Which is not that far off from the original premise. That's how reading/hearing stories work, a good one can make you feel like you are in that world. And with your own imagination, you can create your own world to "escape" to. The brain is more easy to manipulate than most realize, dangerously so.

I got hired on as an admin assistant but before I could even fill out the paperwork on my first day, I was required to watch a video on the owners with this old man who founded this "science". It was incredibly culty and gave serious red flags. When the owners asked me what I thought, I gave my honest opinion that its not founded in science and in my quick google search (it was a 40 minute long video), I couldn't find any backing. They argued back that the scientific community could not replicate his findings because only the old man knew how to do it?? Yep, I just made a very similar comment. I'm guessing that every single student is afraid of being a 'failure' or an outcast because they think that all the other kids are actually able to do those things, so they end up pushing up that blindfold a tiny bit and cheating. They probably feel a lot of pressure to 'succeed' because all of the adults (including their own parents) are pushing this idea. But what they don't realize is that they AREN'T the only one who can't do it, and all the other kids are thinking and feeling the same way.
@darkprincette

@@Crackpot_Astronaut yeah, exactly!! i read a post online a while ago about a teacher that had made an assignment that was destined to fail (the kids had to try to grow a seed and compare the process to their original hypothesis, but they were given seeds that wouldn't grow), but apparently the ENTIRE class assumed they'd been the only ones to mess up and got a different seed instead of admitting theirs hadn't grown. I'm not a psychologist but i feel like there's a lot to be said about that. (iirc the teacher wanted to fail them all but the principal wouldn't let them, because if all the students fail it's only because the teacher did so first. of course, this is a story on the internet, take it with a pinch of salt)

@@darkprincette There's a book about this story, an emperor needed to choose a successor so he gave seeds to all the children and gave them a year to make the flower grow, but they all received seeds that couldn't grow and they didn't know it, and in the end just one boy is sincere and takes a vase with the seed planted but without any flowers to the emperor, and he is chosen to be the successor because he was honest about it. I read the book when I was a child, and the name in Portuguese is "The Empty Pot", but I don't know if it's Brazilian or if it was translated, but anyway, your story reminded me of a memory from my childhood :)

Hi Gonzalez! I know this comment is going to be buried under the other hundreds, but i just had to say it. That school that had uniforms similar to karate, red-white and logos and everything, that martial art is called Merpati Putih. And... I'm a member of it! You dont know how exciting it is to see a martial art from my country, Indonesia, let alone one that i join, in one of your video! Oh, this is truly unexpected. As for the Merpati Putih, yes, other than the swishy wooshy magic of it, we also learn self-defence. And meditation. So, three hours of practice, one hour of those spent on breathing exercises. I gotta say, one of my favorite exercise of the "telekinesis" (I dont know how to translate it to english, sorry) would be guessing the origami colours. I guess the exercise by our brothers and sisters overseas is more extreme? Cause we certainly couldn't guess the colors that fast. We had to feel around the origamis first (blue feels cold, green feels heavy). I used to always get them right. Unfortunately, school had catched up on me :(. But anyways, even if you dont believe in those kind of things, i had to say that the community has some of the best people i have ever met. We have a teacher that is strict during class, but very kind after the hour is over. A senior that show magic tricks to the kids when the teachers arent looking, a friend that passionately talks about her favorite books while we were sparring, and a kid who cant stop making capcut edits everytime she made a new friend. I gotta say, spending my after-school hours with them in the park, our eyes closed, trying to arrange our breathing back to normal after running 700 meters, feeling the cool night wind greeting us, is something that cant be recreated. That, and also the running frantically to the post when it starts to rain. Erm, sorry for rambling. Told you guys this is coming from my chest ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and i apologize if my sentences are inconvenient, english isnt my first language 😋 thank you for reading this mess of a comment! Xoxo

I don't think the kids are sworn to secrecy OR are brainwashed into thinking they're actually telekinetic. But I do think I know what's probably going on... I think what's likely happening is that every single one of those children thinks that _they're_ the only one who CAN'T see without their eyes. There is probably a lot of pressure with all the adults (including their own parents) encouraging and expecting this of them, and if they think that all of the other kids are actually able to do the things they're showing off... I can see how it would be very tempting to simply push that blindfold up a tiny bit and cheat so as not to be the outcast, or a 'failure.' But what none of them realize is that they AREN'T the only one, and every kid is doing the same thing and feeling the same way. That would be my best guess.

Psycho comes from the Greek word Psyche which means mind. So telekinesis refers to movement from a distance, and psychokinesis refers to movement using the mind. Most people use them interchangably though, but they were definitely right about the original meanings.

Hi Danny, that "karate" school is actually a pencak silat school from Indonesia. It's called Merpati Putih (meaning white dove) which you can see on the logos in their gym and badges. I immediately recognized it because I used to train in that school in Indonesia lol. I'm actually surprised they have a branch in the USA, but I can confirm that the blindfolded stuff is something they make us do because spirituality is a huge component of pencak silat as a martial art. But usually, it's to train your focus, spatial awareness, and hearing. Merpati Putih primarily focuses on self-defense, not to arbitrarily become psychic 😂😂

When it comes to the video with Sean and Rachel plus the glove demonstration, Danny was onto it. Your hands create convection currents which takes the heat from your hands and disperses it under the object as it replaces cold air. This is almost like creating wind in a way but isn't quite the same. Googling convection currents then going to images will help understand. It's not Telekinesis, but instead science which is still cool.

As someone with a mild interest in psychology, these types of videos where people are instructing others on how to use "powers" or do otherwise extraordinary things are endlessly fascinating to me. Did the person making them really believe it was real? Do they know it's bogus and were just trying to look cool or interesting? Do the people commenting about how it worked truly believe they succeeded, or do they just not want to feel insecure for being unable to do something? Or is it all just some big joke and everyone is playing along? There are so many possibilities and whether it's unlocking your latent "psychic powers" or chanting spells at the moon to turn into a wolf I can never get enough. As long as people aren't getting themselves or others hurt by avoiding legitimate treatment for a serious health condition, anyway.

Yeah, it's been a thing I like to think about and pick at for years. I've seen it on other "transformation and magic" videos, and the people usually give long detailed explanations of what "happened." tbh, its probably because they're kids, I remember being attracted to that kind of content when i was younger.
@bishielurfer

I think it's really gross that this place does this with children. Children often crave approval from those around them, don't have a great understanding of the world yet and don't really have any control over what their parents are exposing them to, so preying on those vulnerabilities just feels especially insidious to me. Kids really only have what the adults around them are giving them to go off of, so it's entirely possible these kids truly believe they have these powers because that's what the adults are telling them. I mean it's either that or they're being pushed to lie. Neither scenario is great or strikes me as a particularly good environment for a kid to be learning from. Most of these types of places are also charging the families. Like even if the people going think it's real, the people running them are usually just scam artists. I can have sympathy for adults who earnestly believe they have supernatural powers (though sometimes it makes me very sad because it's clearly a person who should be receiving some kind of mental health treatment and isn't) and aren't hurting anyone with those beliefs. I even have a certain level of understanding for people who do things like séances if what they're doing ultimately ends up providing the people they work with comfort and closure. But I get upset when they start trying to take advantage of people (e.g., psychics who charge large amounts of money or people who claim they can heal) or involving children.

@SilverDragonJay
@SilverDragonJay Жыл бұрын
it also turns out that its possible to hang a door wrong so that it will sometimes swing open and closed at random times. If its uneven, for example, and it doesn't latch properly, an almost imperceptible gust of wind can be enough for it to open all on its own. Once its done properly, it stops happening. Pressure differentials can also be enough to cause that. I remember countless times growing up when someone would open one door (even an internal one) and it would cause the garage door to slam shut. I think its easy for a lot of people to forget that we live in a medium: air. We aren't always aware of it, we can't always detect the miniscule ways it moves around us, but even in a seemingly still environment its still swirling and moving, we just can't detect it without tools.
