Instagram Influencers are like those people in school that you’d do a school project with but you’d do 100% of the work and they’d claim all the work as their own

Funny how the person that wants something for free, calls the business owner greedy for wanting to get paid.

I’m an artist and it’s crazy how many people I get asking for free art and then suddenly bringing up cancer after I say no. My grandparents both died of cancer, like people please stop using it as an excuse for free stuff omg.

"Influencers" are generally people I would call spoiled brats. (when I'm feeling kind)

I used to work in a small hotel in Polynesia and we'd get "influencer" emails all the time. We used to laugh at and then delete them. Occasionally I'd write polite but snarky responses for the worst offenders.

all artists and photographers should have an 'influencer package' that makes them think they are getting a good deal but in fact, they aren't.

A lady on tiktok said "accusation is the closest thing to confession you will get from s manipulator/ narcissistic person." This video proves the point. All these people wanting free stuff and accusing the other person of being greedy lol

I’m a wig maker /mistress . I’ve done weddings and plays and whatever. I can’t begin to count the number of people that ask me to do it for free. No. There is a reason good wigs cost so much.

I don't understand the mentality of the people that say things like "You know what, I lied, you suck" when they don't get their way. They're wasting everyone's time and it's the most childish s*it ever.

I love those responses like Melissa's "we will no longer be considering you as contendors to..." email, AFTER basically already having been rejected by said contendor.

Ugh, I HATE when someone thinks an artist should just GIVE them a painting or drawing or anything else like that. Why?! They put so much time & energy into it, who knows how many times they had to start it over bc it didn’t seem right for some reason or another?!?! Art takes time, supplies and skills to create and anyone who does that should be compensated for their hard work!! My sister in law gave me a beautiful painting on a canvas of sunflowers blowing in a field, it was exactly what I wanted and I’d mentioned it once when we were talking about her art. She gave it to me as a Christmas gift and I was floored. It was truly the most amazing gift bc I know how hard she works on her pieces and she owns her own graphic design business so her time literally is money. I would have gladly paid for it but since it was a Christmas gift she obviously wasn’t going to let me. Instead I went onto her website and bought another painting she had done that I’ve always admired. I didn’t do it bc I felt as if I owed her necessarily.... I did it bc she’s an amazing artist n I do love her work, she deserves it....

I have gone all these years without watching things like this....until you 😂 💛

I hate the word influencer, most of them influence almost no people.

Back in the 1980s', I used to hang wallpaper professionally. I would get these types of requests from supposed "decorators" promising to get me work if I would do a wallpaper job in their homes for free. I stayed booked 3 months in advance so I would always pass on these "opportunities"!

I write a travel and photography blog, and would never ask for free accommodations or stuff in exchange of post. It's ridiculous and insulting to the business owner.

If these "influencers" actually had any real influence, companies would be approaching them. Anyone who contacts you with their hand out can be safely dismissed as pathetic wannabes.

I can totally relate to some influencers being entitled. We opened a Cafe recently and we were contacted by an influencer who wanted to “Collab” with us in exchange for shoutouts and posts. She wanted the most exclusive items in our cafe and we agreed to make a Christmas hamper and give her. She lived far away yet we agreed to deliver it to her at our cost. But however she asked if we would like her to post only in a story or in both story and post, we said both. And she was like “I can do the story for free but I charge a fee for a post” I mean come on! The hamper was already worth a lot of money and we had to deliver it to her at our own expense and plus to pay her for a post??? I politely told her that it seems unreasonable and politely declined the offer. I would never charge a small business like that even if I had a million followers

My daughter utilizes her inner petty anytime someone steps out of line. Thanks Charlotte for helping her stop being bullied. *She is also not the bully, thank goodness*

The company I worked for did a collaboration with an Instagram influencer. The influencer paid for her custom prints (with a discount), was super sweet, took a picture with me, and simply tagged us as her part of the collaboration. So there are, in fact, good influences. Surprising, I know.

I wouldn’t even respond to anyone asking for anything free. What influencers fail to realize is that their followers can be based almost anywhere in the world! A lot of good that’s gonna do for a local restaurant or hotel when your followers are in Europe!

And I would imagine doing an Influencer wedding for free, would result in meeting more influencers who would also want their wedding done for free - LOL.

I really love the approach of "you pay and if you get us more clients you will earn your money back or maybe even make extra money" because anyone who believes in their influence will agree to that and all the fakes just leave

I work in reservations for a hotel chain in my hometown. The amount of people that sends emails asking for a free room and free meal in our 5 star hotel is ridiculous. 99% of the time I don't even reply.

But I have to say that it also works the other way around. SO MANY brands and business email "influencers" (I don't like this word either) asking to create content and advertise their product (which it takes time and effort) and refuse to pay any money. Rotten apples in bot sides 😜

I've had people get interested in wanting a commission, but not wanting to pay my rates, and want to pay practically nothing for it, and it's not only insulting, it's aggravating AF. Like, I'm legit trying to make this into a career and you want me to work for free? Dafuq?! Sorry for the rant. Me and my friend are both 15 and are both artist. Whenever I want something animal/cartoony, I commission her to do an art piece and pay her for it! She puts her soul into her artwork and not paying would be unfathomable.

For me influencers are more like - 'distracters' keeping your mind absent from certain truths.

I feel like the idea of an "influencer" is so laughable to so many people because if someone was actually good at influencing people... they'd have a different, more professional occupation (in theory). Like, public relations specialist and professional marketers influence people, politicians influence people (for better or worse), scientists, artists and zoologists who make/star in fun educational programs for kids influence people. "Influencing" with no other purpose (besides money) attached seems hollow.

LMAO... I think "a few" is an understatement for influencers. I would say a large minority. These influencers are ridiculous.

I love this so much. I constantly get "influencers" asking me to post my art or swag on their sites... for a fee. It's always worth a great laugh.

I work for a car company and we get emails from influencers asking for free cars- nobody has ever got a free car...but we do get a good team chat about the audacity of them.

When I used to work as a massage therapist, my mother would volunteer me to give massages to her friends then would get mad if I “dared” to charge them. She’d volunteer me on my days off from my “day job” often without even consulting me. She’d also get upset when I would tell her I wasn’t going to do it.

So funny. That reminded me of a friend of mine, she worked as a lingerie model and I did a few shootings with her. She always tagged lingerie brands in the pics (without having asked them for anything!), after some time they became aware and actually sent her stuff and that was very cool. However there were other brands that reached out to her as well. There was this herbal tea company that also sold nice see through bottles for the tea, so we took some nice and spicy pics with the tea and she drank it and said: " OOOhh, that really tastes very good!" Drank the whole bottle and spend the next day shitting her brains out ... I am still laughing about that, but it really gets me when I see more "famous" "influencers" with the same brand and imagine the next day :-D

I like that revelation that after exposure to 66k followers, the company got 1 new client. That's probably not the case across the board with followers depending on what's being promoted but definitely an enlightening stat to pocket.

First one sounds like one of those Nigerian Prince scams.

years back when the term “influencers” wasn’t a thing, I started blogging. Actual blogging with a website and articles and sharing about thoughts, ideas, photography, and my personal style because I loved dressing up. When I joined instagram in 2016, I still posted my personal style and stuff I made. I didn’t expect people to make my posts boom. It started with 100+ likes to 900+ likes. I appreciated everyone commenting and commented back and liked their posts back. I was overwhelmed, surprised, and genuinely thankful. I even gained friends with the same interests. Then, because of the engagement in my posts, brands started contacting me directly and asking me for collaborations. It was fun at first, but the environment quickly became quite toxic. Suddenly people joined instagram, called themselves bloggers (without blogs), and started contacting brands themselves for collaborations claiming “we’re bloggers”. Then it evolved to “influencers” because they really couldn’t continue calling themselves bloggers without blogs. Long story short, I hated being lumped into the influencer thing (coz everyone hates influencers) plus it got stressful, so I quit. Even my blog. :(

The only kind of person worse than an "influencer" is a Karen.

The biggest problem is that there seam to be no criteria to be an influencer. So, some random person with 50 followers can simply call themselves an "influencer". They don't seam to understand that "influencer" implies that people listen to you and follow your suggestions. That second part is key!

I’m an artist on Instagram and I’ve had so many people ask for free art, citing so many reasons why I should do it for them, and then get angry when I say no. They have no respect for other people’s time and skill. On average, it takes me 6-15 hours to finish one. Would you go to your job and work that many hours for free? Probably not, so don’t ask an artist for the same.

I am a writer of fanfiction. yes, fanfiction, nothing I get paid for. I joined something called a Big Bang, in which writers and artists were paired up to collaborate. the artist would do art based on the story the writer was writing, but they agreed on the subject, etc. Both people worked for free and both pieces (writing and art) were posted together to the site. That artist was wonderful and her work was gorgeous. I, later, did a sequel for the story and approached her to do the art. She hesitated and before she could say anything, I added, "I will pay you the going rate. What is it?" She had no clue as she'd never been paid for her art. So, i told her wait a moment. I looked up the going rate for artists on the internet, which was about 60 dollars US for one waist up drawing of one person. I gave her the research and offered her the same price. She was floored and started crying, telling me no one had ever offered to pay for her work before. I told her "it's worth it. If I'm gonna ask for something, I'm gonna pay it's worth." I paid the money and she did the drawing and I posted it WITH HER ADDED PERMISSION on the sequel story. I know how much of my time and energy goes into writing and I respect other people put as much, if not even more, time into their chosen profession or hobby. And her art was worth it! I have had people read my stories because her art is posted on it. I don't know of any commissions she got because I happened to have her art on my stories. And to clear up any confusion as to me offering money only after she hesitated, it went like this "Hey, moose. You did the art for my piece in Big Bang last year. I was wondering if you wanted to do another." She asked "Big Bang? Not sure." And I responded, "No, art piece. I love your work. What's the going rate? I'm doing a sequel and really would like to put your art to it if you have time for a commission." Moose replied "you want to PAY me? I've never been paid." Me: "Okay, hang on. I'll look up prices and get back to you." And so on. We went back and forth a bit and she agreed. i told her there was no time limit, as I could post the story once the art was done and had other stories I was working on. There was no deadline for me. It took her all summer, she was also working, and then I had my pic and she had her money. She was so stunned, she threw in a second pic, and I threw in a second payment because, again, worth it to me. Yes, I am not someone who cannot afford to pay for something, no shame on anyone who can't, and I certainly don't want to force someone else to be unable to afford something after working so hard. Choosing Beggars make me angry. If you want something, respect the other person you want it from. Pay the fair price. It's okay to ask for a discount, but certainly don't double down on it, and don't back out just because they won't give you the discount. Tell them, "Okay, well, let's do this for the full price then." Be prepared to pay. Otherwise you are slapping them in the face. I'm glad I was able to pay Moose for my beautiful art pieces. I hope she did get people commissioning after seeing her work on my stories, but I know the world rarely works that way.

I love the wedding one a lot. Hey they offered a legit contract to be signed that made it a bindingly legal requirement for the influencer to reach that minimum number of followers and such - otherwise a full payment of the service would be required. I mean if you're not willing to put it in writing, take your offers elsewhere... sheesh. It's basic shit that a business deal is done in writing, signed by both partners, etc.
