Goons Of The Industry Episode 8....."The 139th St. NFL Crew"
Narration: Pabey
Special thank you to Mr Lou Black. The stories contained within this episode are from his book Ethylene: The Rise and Fall of The 139th St. NFL Crew Please go buy the book for the in-depth detailed story, which goes a lot further than this documentary and explains why certain things happened. There is much more in the book about Big L and other members of NFL and other stories which relate to hip hop.

Check out the book Ethylene: The Rise and Fall of The 139th St. NFL Crew by Lou Black. A lot of your unanswered questions are in that book and it goes much more in-depth about the topics covered in this episode and much much more.

I'm an 80s baby born and raised in Harlem. I went to school on 139th. St. That was one of the scariest blocks to have to walk down besides the block and Avenue over (140th between 7th/8th). My childhood is marred with walking over chalk residue of outlined bodies, visions of bodies covered by sheets awaiting the coroner's arrival and empty crack viles covering the pavement until they fill the creases in the rubber beneath ya shoes/sneakers. NYC 80s was a very rough time on my city. 😢

My Grandma "Miss Grace" was a household name on 139th for decades. Spent summers there with her as a kid out of Maryland. If you don't know her name, you never lived on 139th. She helped everybody out there. Remember the big deal when the Wendy's opened up on the corner on 7th and the block parties???..Lee and Donald showed me love as a kid. Remember when Reggie and his family moved on the block. His mother and I had the same birthday Aug.31st. That block will always be a part of me......ALWAYS R.I.P to Miss Francis, Miss Jackson, Mrs. Luly Joe, Miss Bee, Mrs. Mary, Pinky, all the other mothers of the block who are with the ancestors now. Mr. Jackson R.I.P taught me how to ride a bike on the block in the late 70's too.. Mr. Nathan was just a cool man who showed me OG Love all the Time......R.I.P

I was just watching the one about Ms.Tee and it's interesting to see some of the same people and names in this one as the other. Jamall Glover I was thinking the same thing. I grew up and ran in these streets but didn't know half of what was going on. Proof that you didn't have to be in the game unless you wanted in. But it was easy to find your way just by having a friend who was in. I went to Richman I.S. 195 and P.S. 123 and some of the people in this story went to some of those schools so paths were crossed. I'm just glad I didn't get caught up.
