In a movie about so much Nazi bashing, it's kinda funny how QT has humanised the ordinary German soldier so much more than any other Hollywood director has. It goes to show how different this movie is.

I agree these soldiers likly aren't even Nazis since alot of german military wasn't part of the Party but was still loyal to the state, I also like that the movie refernces all the terrible things in american history showing that both sides have blood on there eagels

@Masubi Rachtman (the sergeant in the interrogation -ambush scene) has no political medals at all. He has high combat decorations. The silver bronze close combat clasp, which means he has been in 50 battles (iirc) and both iron crosses, a wound badge and an infantry assault badge.

Yeah all the nazi leaders appearing in the film had pathetic and comical features, but the common german soldiers were portrayed as normal, or even brave ppl. A unique (and probably accurate) interpretation of the nazi Germany.

Mine Craft are you talking about Wilhelm Wicki? Because he didn’t grow up in the USA. Earlier in the movie his background in explained and how he moved to the US after Germany annexed Austria, which happened shortly before the start of the war. Having moved to another country for a few years being a grown adult does not constitute to “growing up” in said country. He’s Austrian.

Cristian Gálvez Espinoza this shows he has just arrived and only had the time to order his first drink. You can also get that from the fact that in the first shot of him in the scene he is reading in a book and he is still reading one of the first pages of his book and his beer is still pretty much full

"Simon Pegg was originally set to play Lt. Archie Hicox" WHAT?!?!? he never would have fitted in that role! btw i am extremly sure that Christopher Waltz didnt only dubbed his own performance in german, he also did in french and italien... just saying.

2:10 There's a small mistake... when entering a building soldiers must remove their headgear. At least in Germany and I doubt it was different during that time. 😉

+DIF99 German army regulations from back then required them to salute indoors as well, but only with headgear on so this scene is slightly inaccurate.

In the American military it would also depend on the situation, ie if you were reporting formally to say, your CO or to a board of some kind. You would knock, wait for acknowledgment, and reply of enter march smartly to stand in front of desk of said CO or directly to the front of the senior member of the board render a salute stating your rank, name followed up with the statement "Reporting as ordered." Hold your salute until it is rendered back and stand at the position of attention until told to either "Stand as ease." Or "Parade rest."

There weren't in any danger from sniper checking the Officers, and military decorum would be to the first to see them announce their presence to the others though being since they surely knew that an officer of higher rank was already there, acknowledging them still would be considered respectful, but they didn't give the usual greeting you would expect especially with the Gestapo Major close by, and the officers dressed in SS uniforms. Officers don't usually socialize with enlisted generally anyway.

@@MrDK0010 The SS wasnt really that much regarded by most Wehrmacht personell since they often interfered with them and were seen as a competitor. On the other hand the SS didnt really think much of the Wehrmacht either, since the SS viewed them as the most superior german beings. Actually the 3. Reich was a snake pit like nowhere else in history. Basically constant struggle and arguments amongst all branches of military and civilian leadership. This status was even promoted by Hitler himself who, in this way, hoped to avoid anybody else getting all too powerful.
