One thing that I should have emphasized more in this video is how little effort it took to get semi-decent audio out of this simulation compared to the original Engine Simulator. I know the results might seem a bit underwhelming right now but don't worry, this is not the final version. Thanks for watching guys 🙏

The evolution of this utility is fascinating! I hope to one day use this to develop more exotic sounding exhaust notes for conventional engines. A little flare for those odd swaps. First target is a GM LV3 6 cylinder swapped into a Porsche Cayman...how do we make that sound more like a Porsche and less like a GM vehicle! Kudos!

Don't make the same mistake I did. I looked up what the three mile sirens were since I grew up in the area, to which I learned they were ACA P-10 Penetrators which were later replaced by the ASC T-128, and from there I learned my local fire department had a Federal Signal STL-10, and then I slipped on down the rabbit hole of emergency siren history. We've made a LOOOOOOT of different sirens over the years. You can get lost in the Air Raid Siren wiki for hours reading up and listening to different makes and models. The SiraTone EOWS 612 being commanded to play Alternate Wail is the freakiest alert pattern I've ever heard.

@@wulfifi@halluminium Maybe i'm just too used to my city. It's very "green" - there is tons of noise supressing foliage growing everywhere, bushes and trees on every street, etc etc (often placed in between every few parking spaces in malls etc) so maybe my perception is skewed, but that does not sound like anything i have ever heard on the street or parking lot. It was like it was placed in a corrugated sheet metal room, where the walls would actually resonate and increase reverb.

The ability of engineers to find practical ways to model the world is mindblowing. My favourite thing about Ange's work here is his ability to abstract known processes to their core, and couple them in a complete system. To do so in realtime demonstrates and extremely impressive intuition for reality.

I had a professor in college who would constantly say: “In this universe” and proceed to explain the reasons certain engineering concepts are designed in such a way given the physical constraints of our universe. This video gives similar vibes… like watching this you gain not just an understanding of piston heat engines but of the constraints of the universe in which we currently exist.

The one thing I learned when doing the audio for the coin-op SF Rush at Atari was that only recording the exhaust noise did not make a very good engine sound. There is a lot of mechanical noises in the lifters, belts, etc, that needed to be mixed in to make it more convincing.

I'm a huge fan of what you're doing here and just recently discovered your Channel. I wanted to throw in my $0.02 on things that might improve the realism of your simulation and that's valvetrian noise. There's a ton of videos out there where builders will test cylinder heads without a block by just actuating the valves alone in normal sequence of engine operation to check for hot spots, friction wear and different manufacturer specs I don't fully know about. This is all to say , ive learned that a massive amount of the sound we hear produced thru the intake and exhaust of an engine is from the valves themselves. Something to consider 🙃
