In this video I review the Inkee Gold Crow GC60 lights, including the daylight-only GC60D5 and the bi-color GC60X5.
The GC60 lights are some of the most unique I've ever tested, and do a lot of things differently compared to typical COB lights, but in a very practical way.
Not only are they bright and well-built, but with high-capacity internal batteries, they can be run at full power for 2 full hours, which is around double the time as other 60-watt battery-capable lights.
They also have a mini-Bowens style modifier mount that expands into a full-sized Bowens mount, so it's extremely compact, but still allows you to use all your current modifiers.
Inkee also designed a custom handle for these lights with tons of 1/4", 3/8", and NATO rail mounting points. It has a locking angle adjustment at the top, and also doubles as a light stand adapter.
Overall, these are killer lights for the price, and they can do all the things a traditional COB light can do, plus a lot more.

This is one of the craziest, unique lights I've seen in years. Thanks for always reviewing cool and new things!

Glad you liked it, and thanks! I get bored when it's the same old generic lights with new branding, so I love when stuff like this comes along.

as a GC30 user i can testify that this light is brilliant for its output quality and anti-humanity for its user interface.

Hahaha! I think I'm in the minority of people who really don't find the control scheme bad at all.

Great Review. They just sent me this light to review and I was shocked at the different look from any other lights I own.

Wow! You're not joking when saying they're bringing something new to the table! The dual size s-type adapter alone should be on every product that uses the mini s-type, I hope they have a patent for their own sake.

That's definitely one of my favorite parts of this light! I hate having to carry and attach cheap feeling plastic Bowens adapters with other small lights, so this is perfect.

For sure. I'm not against proprietary mounts when there's a good reason for them, and as long as they have a good adapter. So I like the mini mount on this light, and the fact that it can expand without any adapter at all is the best solution I've seen so far.

For a gym environment do you feel that it would be bright enough as a key light? I've got some video shoots planned and looking for a good battery powered key light for fitness videos. Im typically using. 23mm or 33mm crop sensor lens. Thanks for the video!

For sure! They are perfect for something like that. The GC60 would work very well, even with a 36" softbox. They also have the GC30 (geni.us/inkeegc30bi), which will be about 1 stop dimmer and would be slightly cheaper, but just as good, especially if you plan to use it as a hard light with the reflector, or something like a 24-30" softbox. Same runtime, basically half the size/output.

Hello New Layer, quick question. In your video you said the battery is "under the limit for carry-ons when flying with items that have internal batteries". Did you mean "over the limit"? Can I bring this light with me on the flight?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 4 ай бұрын
No, I did mean under, so you can bring it on flights! It even has a travel mode which locks it from accidentally turning on, with an airplane icon if I recall correctly :)

Yes but unfortunately the Battery surpass the standard of 100w/h. It seems I can't bring it with me. @@NewLayer

@@lightsequilla6938 Take a look at the smaller GC30! geni.us/inkeegc30bi It's 71Wh, and really isn't much dimmer than the 60. And, when the battery power is higher than 20%, it can be overclocked by 50%, which is equivalent to 45W!
@jimyhustle

these looks like the perfect lights for travel especially the integrated long lasting battery. i was going with molus x100 but that battery lasts only 30 minutes. what is the beam angle with the reflector and does it have a hotspot? also i wonder about their reliabilty since i never heard of this brand . thanks
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 11 ай бұрын
I really like the water bottle style form factor, because it easily slips into backpacks and other bags for travel. The Molus X100 itself is really tiny, but inside the case with the accessories packed up for travel, it's obviously less compact. To be fair, that light is also 100 watts, so you'd get more like an hour of battery life running it at 50%, which would be around the same brightness as the Inkee GC60x5. I don't know the exact beam angle of the reflector, but they're all pretty much 45 degrees. The hotspot isn't any better or worse than the typical COB light if that helps. Inkee has been around for a few years at least, and has some other products. I've tried their Benbox too in the past, which was good. The build quality on these lights is among the best I've ever tested, and I love seeing companies enter the lighting market with non-generic stuff like this, so I support them all the way! They are actually 20% off right now at my links, which I think is an insanely good deal for what you get.

Is that mini mount a proprietary size, or will it fit any of the other mini-bowens style modifiers?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 5 ай бұрын
It's a proprietary mount. The 3 tabs on the included reflector stick off the back, whereas a mini-bowens and bowens modifier, the tabs are within the footprint of the modifier, if that makes sense. The tabs are also a little bigger.
@BryonBlack1

@@NewLayer appreciate the quick reply! That's a bit unfortunate, but no surprise. Considering it folds out to a full Bowens I can't complain too much :-)
@NewLayer

Love the size and the weatherproofing is nice. The control ring seems convoluted though, I can see it quickly being really annoying. Doesnt seem like a few waterproof buttons wouldn't be any harder to implement 🤷
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 11 ай бұрын
Honestly, I thought the same thing. And the ring was in fact slightly annoying at first. BUT, after using it for 5-10 minutes, it's really no slower than buttons, especially since you don't have to move your hand from dial to button and back multiple times. it also makes for more real estate on the back for the screen I guess. Overall, it's slightly more of a pro than a con in my experience.
@aldolega
@aldolega 11 ай бұрын
@@NewLayer It seems like it would be fine for a single shooter who's using just these lights, who can memorize how it works... but imagine trying to quickly communicate the interface to an assistant or another shooter in the heat of a shoot. "Turn the ring this way and hold it between two of the detents for X amount of time"... ridiculous. Nobody's figuring that out for themselves in a timely manner.
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 11 ай бұрын
@@aldolega I think you're drastically overestimating how simple it actually is since every light has slight differences that require a quick once-over to get the hang of. And you have to weigh the other benefits it provides Vs the alternatives. Obviously you might come to the conclusion that it's not something that's worth it for you but... Take the Nanlite Forza 60 for example. It might have a more generic control system, but you're going to spend more time attaching the Bowens adapter, battery handle, NP-F batteries, etc. to get it to do what this light does seamlessly. It would take me a minute or two to show someone how to use all the settings, or about 15 seconds to just tell them how to switch between CCT and brightness, which would be 99% of use cases I would imagine. If that's too much of an inconvenience, then it's clear that the benefits it provides simply aren't worth it to you and a more traditional COB light would probably work better.
