Have you ever wondered how inline CO2 equipment affects the water flow of your external filter?
I'm hoping this video will help you get a better picture of that:)
Equipment used in the experiment:
Filter: Eheim 2217 ~ 1000l/h (264GPH)
CO2: CO2Art - Inline Diffuser, and CO2 Reactor (GLA Style)
Digital Water Flow Meter: RESTMO Water Flow Meter

Don't worry about water flow loss , get a decent wavemaker to provide flow in the tank , do not depend on the canister filter for your tank water flow needs . There are solutions to every problems , once you change your mind , you gain more experiences ! I love those Classic filter , they're work horses !

Nice test. If we want to be picky about it, how much the reactor will reduce the flow will depend on its design. Every time the water has to travel in a sharp angle (like a 90° corner) flow is reduced a little. The most efficient design is a Rex Griggs design were the water comes in from the top and leaves from the bottom of the reactor. No media and no sharp corners in its pathway, only a smooth curve with the hose going back into the aquarium. It's better to mount it at the same level as the cannister (not higher) so that there is more pressure on the water in the reactor. But you hardly see this design implemented by manufacturers because it has nothing to stand on and would need to be mounted in the cabinet's wall. So it needs to be DIYed (it's what I use with success). But if you weight the efficiency AND the user-friendliness, then the best solution today is definitely in-line diffusers.

Thank you for the feedback! I was actually wondering about that too. It looks like most reactors sold by bigger companies utilizing the "water in / water out" on the top design. I may build a Rex Griggs reactor for myself at some point, I've seen people recommending that all over the internet. I'm currently using the in-line diffuser as I wasn't able to achieve one point pH drop with this reactor. I've also tried ISTA CO2 turbo reactor with a little more success but still nowhere close to a full point pH drop. This is probably due to my external filter and the efficiency of these reactors.

@@MLCGreenScapes Yeah they'll definitely need to be driven with a strong enough flow in order to work. The gas has to be bubbling up pretty vigorously inside the reactor without any media inside. With a good size reactor and strong enough flow, you could drop the pH enough to gas all livestock if not careful with the injection rate. I run a 1.6 pH drop in a high light Dutch style tank.

Great Video Bro But If that reactor can kept with full of media then what will happen ! Is that will be efficient more from inline diffuser?

I'm just setting up the same CO2 reactor but it doesn't come with good instructions. Should you only have the burp valve open to purge the air, then reclose it once all air bubbles are out?

Once you got all the air out, connect the CO2 line and leave the valve open. If you keep it closed then the CO2 won't be able to pass through. I hope this helps:)

This reactor is good? I'm thinking of buying, but cannot find any review online.

@@gabrielfernandes380 if you decide to go with this reactor, I'd highly recommend using it with a strong external filter. Just for reference my Eheim 2217 wasn't able to reach a full 1 point pH drop with this reactor. Besides that, it feels sturdy and well built. As far as efficiency goes, I believe Rex's DIY reactor is the most efficient and cost less to build one. I hope this helped

I have a Fluval 305 canister filter and I have to inject CO2 at a high rate (hard to count) to get a 1 pH drop. I still like it and won't be replacing it anytime soon. A more narrow cylinder would work better for faster toroidal speed @@gabrielfernandes380
