► Description:
Hey guys! Welcome back to a further tutorial. My name is Daniel. In this video, we will learn together how to brake and stop with our "Inline-Skates". We will learn seven different techniques. This includes different techniques for all kinds of "Inline-Skates". Before we start learning, I will show you some clips of all the seven techniques.
For the "Heel-Stop", we need a brake block on our skates.
For normal street-skates, a brake block is a standard set-up.
For example, „Aggressive Skates" do not provide a brake block to stop. You have to use one of the next techniques to stop.
We will learn different techniques to brake and stop:
- Hell Stop (Heel-Stop // Heelstop)
- T-Stop (T Stop // TStop)
- Plow Stop // Plow-Stop
- Spread Eagle Spinout (Spread-Eagle-Spinout)
- Jump and Stop
- Wallstop (Wall Stop // Wall-Stop)
- Stairstop (Stair-Stop // Stairs Stop)

Yesterday I bought the rollerblades and pads, and managed one lap around the driveway. It felt scary, I almost fell backwards. So I watched your tutorial, then I tried again today. Huge improvement, I made 10 laps, and felt much more confident. Thanks for teaching me! BTW, I'm 64, so it's never too late to learn!

Hi Daniel. Your videos from 5 years ago are still helping people like me! I was an avid skater back in '95 but I have not skated in 20 years. At age 51 I am starting again. And I haven't euthanized myself doing it yet! I am going through your videos to learn some things that I missed as a younger man. In '95 how to skate videos were not available. Thank you, Daniel. My braking sequence has developed into deceleration with the T-stop and a full stop either with a spin or parallel/Hockey stop. To conserve my centre wheels (I use a banana rocker) I only drag the front or rear wheels. Interestingly enough, the harder centre wheels wear down quicker than softer front and rear wheels during deceleration. Since balance becomes more difficult the closer one becomes to a full stop during the T-stop, I like to use a spin for a slower/more casual approach and parallel/Hockey stop for faster and more urgent stops. In the end, you will develop your own preference of braking techniques. If its effective, its a good braking technique. Good video Daniel.

Plow stop: As I had it explained to me in a roller derby tutorial, you're basically getting into the A-stance (the second half of a forward swizzle or lemon drop), using your inside edges, applying weight I think evenly to all of your wheels, while pushing outward and getting low (bending your knees / dropping down your center of gravity). If you have trouble getting into a good A-stance, just do a swizzle / lemon drop to get into an A-stance. I'm not a skating instructor, but I think that's about how it works. Please feel free to correct me where I may be wrong. I've been starting to see some success doing this as a relatively new skater, but of course we'd all like accurate instruction, myself included. ; )

Very educational now I ask please do a demonstration video on how to quickly break going around twisties on a trail when you're on a incline going on a fast pace around a twisty and the quickest way to stop instead of going into the grass where there are stones also it's a difficult explanation if I could give you a picture of how I crashed but how to prevent your skate from also wiggling and the proper way to overcome a possible crash that could injure you I ended up fracturing my shoulder and dislocated my shoulder I'm glad that I saw this video it helped me understand what I need to do to properly break but maybe be a good video for you to teach people on the twisties how to break quickly if necessary if it's the same methods that you shown on this one that will still be a great information please and thank you because I definitely bought some $100 rollerblades and I did not realize how fast they can go and they are awesome but the first day I got them it's been years since I rollerblade but I never had rollerblades that were awesome like this it makes me vulnerable now that I can't use them and it's almost winter time LOL and I'm a motorcycle list and I can't ride my bike for the rest of the year LOL 🤣 great video much needed I'm going to practice one of these techniques and I got brakes on my right but I think I'm going to switch it over to the left because I'm left-handed I just purchased them a couple days ago actually yesterday I believe.

I use my brakes to stop but I've never done it that way so idk if my way is correct? I just stay in the position that I was in while moving (slightly lean forward with my knees bent, like u do in the video) and lift my front wheels and press the brake on the ground. Like I don't put my leg in front of me and I still stop pretty fast. Is that a correct way?

Keep your knees bent all the time for extra balance. Also when i myself was learning the T stop i found myself instinctively moving my hands to the side of the braking leg which causes a spin out, so if you also do that try forcing yourself to move the hands the other way. Another thing is that you might just be placing your braking leg too close to your front (supportive) leg or you might also be placing the braking leg too far behind the front leg, you want to keep it in a more of an L shape instead of a T shape. Hope it helps

Nice useful video, thanks! I am not able to stand on one leg for more than 2 secs, even standing still on grass. What is wrong with me?? Is it my boot setup? Valo v13 + Kizer Trimax + 110mm wheels.
@skamidanen
@skamidanen 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! To your question, it's not your setup, balancing on one foot or leg is possible with every setup. But, the best thing you can do to maintain balance is bending your knee as deep as it feels good to do so. The more you bend your knee the more power you need, but the easier to maintain balance. A further movement to maintain balance is to cros your leg (the leg in the air) behind your dominate leg. If it won't work for you, maybe one of my one leg tutorials will help you. Thank you for your quick reply and extra tips! Appreciate it from a new guy in this world of inline skating. I hope you are right. I just bought this setup and after trying it yesterday I started doubting if I made a mistake by learning with the trimax + 110 wheels (the bigger the wheel the harder I think). My ankles woble sometimes very easily.

Thank man, especially for you recogintion in my work and videos. So, if your ankles woble sometimes, I hope your boots fit anyway. However it doesn't sound good. If a skate fit perfectly your ankles should not woble. :( Well but you're right, maintain balance on big wheels is a little bit harder than on smaller wheels, just because of power transmission to the ground.But be sure, you'll handle it soon, just practice and never give up! When I can help you in another way or do you just need further tips, please ask me, you're always welcome! 🙂✌

Now i'm 23 and i've recently bought inline skates again and want to learn from new but here's my first attempt to brake as a child - guess i could have used this video by then 😂 : Funny story is i used to do a liiiiiittle bit of inline skates as a kid (i didn't knew how to skate of course) and one day with my parents we went to a street but it was super steep so i gained speed and speed and speed (downhill) and i couldn't stop i was freaked out and didn't know what to d (i was like 10) so i saw a post in the street and while skating downhill with way too much speed i was screaming and aiming for that post with my 2 straight arms preparing for impact 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 this definitely stoppped me but i've stopped skates this day as well 😂 😂 😂 😂

I think a way to explain the plow is trying to grab a big piece of the ground between you skates. That is kind of what you're doing to stop lol

No no, the T-Stop always works, but on even grounds you need more power to press your wheels on the ground (to slow down effectively). ✌ Btw. I hope your face is fine. ;)

I have missed here the reversed T-stop. Basically you do half eagle and then you pull your brake feet forward, so you are moving and T-Stopping backwards (reversed). It's the most effective to quick break at high speeds, but requires of a good spin and backwards skating control. If you play your T-stop example backwards, it is how it will look :)
