I put myself on a low traffic road yesterday for the first time and found myself on a gentle slope unexpectedly. Had to immediately revert to the drag stop and found myself panicking quite a bit as I approached a small intersection with no room to do the slalom style slowing. Wish I had thought of using both feet alternatively to drag. Also, for anyone else watching, if you need to stop right at the end of the slope or even worse, mid slope, you will need to use a power stop/hard slalom stop to come to a complete stop usually. Practice doing it in narrow stretches. I didn't realise how wide I stopped until I was forced to narrow my movements yesterday and that was terrifying.

This is the kind of video I need and want the most. There are many hills where I live. After 2 months or so at it 6+ hrs per week. I feel confident on most small slopes but still need work on slowing down and stopping at speed especially on rough / worn asphalt. I can T stop or use the heal brake but I can't do any power slides yet.

Thank you Bill. Your advise of using grass to stop in previous vids really helped today. I crashed 3 times today mostly on slight down heal and turning. Good thing I am wearing crash pads, elbow , knee , helmet and wrist guards as I am still a beginner. I am having a problem preventing my skates from doing the wobble! I plan another skate tomorrow to work on developing skills. I still have problems stopping good thing there are nice parks in southern California!

Newbie here myself. I get it. Yes, grass is our friend. I hit up our local multi-use trail for the first time this past week-end. For someone like me, it was some serious cardio. Maybe my wheels need rotating? Got a bit of wear on 'em now. Really had to clamp down hard on the laces / straps. That seemed to help reduce wobble but also made it feel like my circulation wasn't so good. I guess it's back to ankle strengthening / wobble board practice. Asphalt trail with gravel in some spots, due to parallel equestrian trails. So I now know what it's like to get a little clipped by a stray piece of gravel. Annoying and not as safe as I wish it were. Man, SoCal.... you're probably pretty lucky skating-wise. Enjoy! Our skate parks here are small and our trails are few. Working on the drag stop. I think I'll get there in a little while. = )

PLEASE HELP 1:55, when u do the stop your inner (left) skate, do you kind of very slightly lift front wheel up/using no weight on it and then turn the skate 180 degree backwards, or how do you split the weight on left skate to do it? is it like you turn by mostly front of skate and set weight for stability on back wheels?

Nice video. I’m a beginner and what frightens me about inlines is stopping. It’s so easy on ice. On inlines it takes so long to burn off speed. The power stop is pretty easy to learn but your preferred side is the opposite of mine. I’m right handed. A CW turn is natural for me. Anyway, a few stops you missed out, which you don’t seem to like. Dabbing one foot down in front at an angle, works at slow speeds. Placing both feet in a V formation, with good separation between them. Works at slow speed. Doing a sort of slalom, but the feet are wide apart, and the weight is mainly on the outside skate. I guess this is akin to your slalom, but pushing on the outside foot helps shed speed. When I’m going fast I so want to do a one foot outside edge hockey stop, or a vanilla hockey stop. But I’d go arse over tit. Actually I did go arse over tit. 🙄

I'm starting inline skating because I like to skate but I don't like rougher surfaces on my roller skates (quads are my comfort zone). I can drag stop with my right foot but nothing with the other side (I'm too scared of falling). How can I improve this? The power stop on ice skates is easy. Not for me on inlines, so far. Thanks!

@BillStoppard
@BillStoppard 4 жыл бұрын
B Stop is the fastest way, to stop from high speed. A strongly employed drag stop can take so much speed off before you go into a powerstop. The powerstop has saved me from some very dicey situations. If you do the 'b stop' all the time in practice, it will be ridiculously consistant.
