Grolnok is not a replacement effect, as it does not use the term "instead". This making it a triggered ability, that could theoretically be counted. So Jon's card would not be exiled with croak counters, and be swallowed into the void. Also, best of luck to Justin and his family. Wish for a speedy recovery.

Came here to point out this same thing. Grolnok needs to see cards hit his yard from the deck, but voidwalker prevents the cards from hitting the yard at all.

This was a wholesome episode where the Commander VS family takes in the newcomer and shows him the ropes. They even let him re-tap his mana for Twilight Prophet! I felt like I was watching Jeremy's Twitch stream. Nice energy.

Best wishes to Justin and his family. I also hope Stephen gets better soon too and everyone is safe. On the gameplay side of this (and spoilers ahead here) there's nothing more toxic in the game currently than Thassa's Oracle and casting it through a Cavern pretty much showcases the lack of interactivity that makes the card so obnoxious. Pretty much a mulligan of a game, which is a shame because it was nice to see Corey hanging out with the guys despite the circumstances

I know this seems like a rather minor point to make given the huge mistakes made involving Grolnok and Dauthi Voidwalker, but you can 100% choose different options with Angel of Invention when it ETBs. Panharmonicon simply causes those triggered abilities to trigger an additional time. It doesn't copy the trigger. This means you can choose different modes or targets or anything similar that applies. Not a big deal, and it had no impact on the game overall given the bigger mistake, but just wanted to point that out. Also well wishes to Justin and his family.

Grolnok is not a replacement effect its a triggered ability. What happens is the cards get milled then each permanent triggers Grolnok. They then get exiled if not responded to. Voidwalker would exile them before Grolnok has a chance to see them hit the grave

Dauthi voidwalker wins over the frog, there's not debate, since the frog is NOT a replacement effect, just a trigger, so the cards just haven't gone to the graveyard for the frog to see and exile them. Best wishes to Justins family!!! Even though commander vs with Corey is hilarious.

Can confirm ran into similar interactions and the judges ruled like you said the card has to be seen in the graveyard for the trigger.

I was under the impression that two replacement effects resolved according to active/non active player. Basically, active player's effect goes on the stack under non active's resulting in the non active player's effect taking precedence. Best wishes to Justin and his family. I'll miss seeing him on here, but family is way more important.

Replacement effects don't use the stack at all. The effected player or controller of the over being effected orders the replacement effects.

Oh vomit. I feel like it's pretty easy to not build a busted Grolnok deck just don't play the empty library wincons. Or just don't play something if you know it's gonna be busted. Plus John you're a vet you should have known that interaction between void and frog come on. I wish Corey would have been able to play a bit more on his first vs episode that's a bummer.

FYI, the croak counters give the ability to play the cards, so even if Froggy Boi leaves the battlefield, you still get access to your croak cards.

Nope, the card Grolnok needs to be on the battlefield for the cards to be playable. If he isn't on the board the second ability won't apply. However, if you recast him they will still be in exile with croak counters and thus will be playable again.

52:30 This is incorrect and I'm sure wrecked this game. Frog has them hit the graveyard first it is not an instead. Dauthi never lets them touch the graveyard. Corey's effect shuts down Jon's deck

Man they really need someone who knows the actual rules for commander vs. Grolnok is a trigger while void walker is a replacement effect so void walker would exile all cards and Grolnok would not trigger at all.

The fact they had to question it even if it was 2 replacement effects at all. That's a super common interaction that comes up in constructed play a lot so i was surprised Corey didn't know it. That question should be an easy snap answer for folks who play a lot of competitive magic or make content and they all got it wrong

Honestly, i have always liked the way john builds his decks, they are usually more focused. It will be interesting to see a another competitive player added to the mix. Sadly, John is familiar with cardpool for commander while Corey seems new to the format.

Whenever we play, with points, and someone gets a Lab Man / Oracle win the other 3 continue for placement. Might be a good idea for you guys, though you don't really get too many wins that way.

Part of the rules is -1 for killing everyone in the same turn i think? So it kind of discourages the lab man esque wins which i thing is the goal, they don't really like infinite combos/insta wins. Granted its mostly about no CEDH stuff not like a fair labman win, but still.

even if the croak counters were a replacement effect for milling it would have nothing to do with APNAP order. The affected player would get to chose the order the the replacement effects.
