ABSOLUTELY! 100% agreement here from someone who's been a street-skater for over 20 years, and who's main inspiration was (and still is) Mr. Rodney Mullen, the innovator... Such a nice guy and what an outlook on life! LOVE it! Davey in Éire (Ireland). Have a good day buddy! :)

I had the distinct honor of being in the room for this. I'm the nervous wreck asking the first question at 4:30. So stoked to finally see video of this.

Thanks Trey. I was nervous and so full of adrenaline that I swear, in the moment, I didn't even comprehend their answers. That's another reason I'm so glad they finally posted video of it. I finally got to listen and hear what they said. Haha!

Didn't even notice you were nervous man. Nice job public speaking can be tough
@paulwillis74049 жыл бұрын
bjaminstaples Thanks very much. I'm glad I didn't sound as nervous as I felt. It was definitely a surreal opportunity. I do just fine with public speaking in general, but it's an entirely different experience when you're addressing two of your biggest idols and influences. It was an amazing opportunity that I will absolutely never forget.

Rodney Mullen explains that skateboarding is a way to express yourself In much of his public speaking. And this is so true. You can clearly see that he is a beautiful person with a terrific personality and his skateboarding matches it. It's a representation of who he is. The sad thing is that I don't think he truly see it himself.

Well, it is being held at the Smithsonian. A place that isn't exactly known for alternative sports. Plus, these sorts of things are often held on a weekday or some other weird time. I do agree though, you would think it would be packed. This was 5 years ago. These two guys have only gained in notoriety (outside of the skateboard community) and recognition for their accomplishments since then (especially Mullen). I bet if it were held today the room would be packed.

Just bought my first complete skateboard in 8 years! Thankyou Rodney for appearing in my recommended videos lol. I watched one of Rodneys skate vids that I use to always watch when I was younger before going out to skate. I got hyped! It's really weird, I haven't felt this way in a long time, all of a sudden I feel like skateboarding again. It's going to take a while to get my old skills back but I just wanted to say, Thankyou Rodney for bringing back the joy I once lost! It feels good to skate again!

I love the fact that these guys are still not only ripping to this day I grew up skating ramps as a chid in the 80's as well as freestyle, my first board being a Mullen freestyle at the age of 14 now at the age 44 and having listened to a some motivational speakers who have had there day and moved on. I have recently been listening to my old skate heroes and and have been moved to see that they are doing just as well at there sport as was back in the day That hard edge and no signs of slowing down the bones brigade are true athletes along with many other skaters of that time ( Mark Gator Rogowski ,Christian Hosoi ) as a two times trades man and licensed up to the eye balls I love what these guys have to say no age limits , no boundaries :) :)

I am proud to be part of the late 80s skaters where it went down in the 90s in popularity. It is important to remember that - It is exactly why street skating has taken over. And in no way do I look at vert skating as something boring. I think the popularity of mini ramps and vert skating is still to come. Also freestyle. Everything belongs within skating. My dream is to one day get to go with Rodney to one of his places where he skates alone. Skating has a soul. And the best skaters are top athletes. Skaters have more balance if we compare to most sports. I just love skateboarding and the community.

The battle between expression and commerce is one that Artists have been dealing with for centuries. Like most things in life there is no good answer. Every person and situation is different and there will be different solutions for each case. That's why the there are big corps and small biz and everything in between.

Both of them are legends. Plain simple. But I really glad mullen get his due. I could listen to him for a while before it just goes over my head. Live them both, but Rodney us just next level, even compared to hawk. Love it.both could be considered circus tricks, just not the case. Which speaks to how unappreciated the wound up being. Love, the have Thier shit together. The contributed to our modern day ecosystem. People of color, woman. Just great ambassadors. Love them . Truth is the truth, I loved it when it was underground,but love they brought it into the main stream. The camps are kinda mixed for me. I think, tho my opinion means nothing, but brought to the mainstream .sneaking into a pool has changed to mega ramp contests. Idk . I'm just glad I came up in the 8os. I miss the outlaw aspect ..

Tony Hawk is so smug. What's your perspective? "I just donated my board. I'm famous now." Rodeny Mullen: "Skateboarding has given me everything and taught me about myself. Not just me, but us."
@ev3nflow9 жыл бұрын
Mark Grejda I think your way off.. but for what its worth, tony could be smug, if i had done what he has to forward a fringe sport into the main stream, and world wide and into people front rooms via their tv's, i would be a absolute wanker.. and as for rodney...well that fact that he has blagged and fooled the whole planet for so long, it on its own commendable , the guy is obviously a alien, the cia, fbi, the x files..no one even knew there was a legit alien from another planet amongst us humans.. Just give them the goddam respect they deserve and chill brother..
