It’s so sad how he has went most of his life without speaking, he has an incredible way of speaking & is beautifully sincere in his speech.

You know what man it is a mis fortune that he went through that, but its the things we go through in life that shape us into who we are. He probably would have never been the Rodney we all know and love had he not gone through such adversity.

The reason no skater comes close to Rodney in skating is because he learned to skate better than he learned how to speak. Skating literally is a bigger deal to him than speaking. Even the word genius can't describe him, he's so much more!

Rodney said it himself he is so compulsive when he gets focused on something that he is caught in a tunnel vision moment so when you eat sleep and breathe it you get good I can see it in myself with my issues with bipolar and like many skating a way to get into my own world since there was no wrong way to do it or a team to fight if you screwed up obviously having bipolar I can vibe with Rodney and not wanting to be around people a lot since I don't fit in either

Always breaks my heart to know how much he suffered while growing up.

My hyper focus is guitar. Been playing obsessively since 1996, by 1998 i played an arena. And now I play small bars. I keep doing it for the feeling of my fingers on the neck. I’m not trying to impress anyone

When he punches himself when emotion comes up is so telling of him. I love Sir Rodney Mullen

I am 40 and recently realized I’m autistic. I punched myself in the head until about the age of 30 because it would get my head out of the autistic spirals. I figured out less painful ways to do it. But it always works

Rodney Mullen is a genius, its that simple. The man is a bona fide genius.

Many autistic people are. David Byrne, Dan Aykroyd, Anthony Hopkins, Tim Burton...oh yeah, and Albert freaking Einstein. It's a hugely misunderstood thing because of fictional bullshit like Rain Man and exploitative TV shows, we just have different things that bring us internal joy, and socializing is not a priority. I didn't speak to anyone outside of my family until I was 6, and I'm still a man of few words if I have nothing to say, but I'll talk forever if I'm passionate about something. I just wish I was good at something like Rodney, I've just lived my life as the weird little brother.

Love you rodney, you're my biggest inspiration since I found out what skateboarding is! The way you speak is also very touching, you're true and natural and not playing a role! Love from UK!

i look back at his career and think to myself that if he wasnt autistic all his innovations wouldnt have come around for at least another 10 years, he was ahead of his time because of his hyper focus on skateboarding

What he said at 14:08 resonates so strongly with me namely, that if you can't skate at this big level, then it is time to quite- so full of crap! That's the reason I quite skating many years ago, but was fortunate enough to start again 3 years ago. And I still skate freestyle! :)
@lanzskulls51966 ай бұрын
honestly i can relate to what your saying as a use to be sponsored skateboarder i was dropped out for not being good enough it was heartbreaking but i needed to understand that its also competition, others probably would get farther and do greater things then what i would be able to do. many skateboarders simply quit because progression isn't fast enough. this never got to me though because i always simply skated for the feel of it. it was heartbreaking because in the first place i started because i dreamed of becoming a pro. but now i only skate for me because skating for the expectations of others was a buzz kill that made me wanna quit i just wanted to skate the way i wanted. not what my sponsors wanted.

Both Rodney and Tony Hawk played a huge part of skating alive. Tony’s dad is honestly the main reason competitive skating became what it is today.

To the man who invented all the tricks in which you can't do skateboarding anymore without trying to copy him no he didn't invent the ollie what did invent the standing ollie so you could jump over things Alan Ollie gelfand invented the ollie but Rodney Mullen made it impossible to skate without these standing Ollie
