Arrack is a local hard liquor with high alcohol percentage around 40. Typically drink with any soda like Coke, Pepsi, Sprite or soda (just carbonated water).

Shangrila hotel is only booked by corporates. Having lived in Colombo for 35 plus years I Recommend the marino beach hotel. Even the basis rooms are very luxurious, fully equipped rooms with a tub and sea view balcony. Their rooftop with the infinity pool is unmatched. All this for $60 (double room only)

Hey Chris the way to enjoy Arrack is to mix it with Ginger Ale it makes the whole drink mellow and you will enjoy it more. Soda is what most of the locals mix it with which is a carry over from the British, But try mixing it with Ginger ale and you will love it. As far as the Port City is concerned it is Sri lankan owned and built using high interest loans from the Chinese. However the whole project is designed by a American company out of Chicago. Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP. American A&E firms design most of the large construction projects in the world.

The arrack can be mixed with the sprite or plain soda. My favorite arrack is DCSL Old Arrack, little bit of ice cube and very little sprite will give you the best tasting of arrack. After the economic crisis, everything went up in many folds like the room charge of 110 $ to 250 $ now. That place looks amazing. My wife is in admin for a big rural health clinic and the main medical director is from shri Lanka and always inviting us to go when they travel back. Gotta show the wife this vlog to convince her.

I stayed at the centara in Phuket and they also had the torches in the room, they said it was to do with the tsunami that had occurred, so may be that. The UK also has a bible in every hotel drawer to. Great video again too!
