Enter the Black Gate of Mordor, walk through New York City, dine under the Dome, and leave through the Rainbow Room. On the way, you'll eat the perfect omelette, cotton candy spring rolls, solidified gin & tonic, light-as-air cellulose toast, edible "plastic" fish skin, a snowball flavored with "pan con tomate," cherry-glazed lamb brain, aerated foie gras, and you'll drink goat's milk dulce de leche straight from the udder. Does this sound unreal? Visit Alchemist 2.0 - the dream-turned-reality of Chef Rasmus Munk.
Located on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen, Denmark, the new Alchemist is part restaurant, part art installation, and part think piece on issues like sustainability and food waste - a dining experience like no other. Chef Rasmus Munk’s visionary thinking is surely paving the way for a new kind of dining experience, where food meets art and culinary issues are as much on the table as your meal.

I enjoyed every single second of this. It entertained, I learned something and was amazed what food can become in the hands of skilled and lucid chef(s). There's a lot of hard work, exploration and knowledge behind the dishes that might seem absurd or ridiculoss. I admire this.

Imagine having an food loving billionaire as your Investor, and he tells you that you can build the Ultimate dining experience of your dreams. And you don’t have to think about the costs! This is what you end up with! This is the most expensive restaurant ever built in Denmark and probably the world! It’s unlikely that it will ever recoup its costs. His investor Lars Seier Christensen (former owner of Saxo bank”) Invested 76 million DNK/11,5 million USD in order for Rasmus Munk to create his Dream! After he visited for the first time he said it was worth all the money. Yes it was a expensive but it was never meant to be a business “Investment” but rather a personal investment because he loves dining experiences! Everything you see, hear, smell, taste that you experience when entering the 2 doors! Are part of the experience. Everything are controlled from the light and sound in the elevator and everything you will encounter are part of the experience!

@andersandkaitlin Жыл бұрын
We always put the price in the caption. However, this was shot a few years ago and the prices here have gone up (along with the wait list of about 100.000 people wanting to dine here). This meal now costs 4600 DKK, so about $560 just for the food for one person. If you get the most insane wine pairing, the total bill will be 14.600 DKK - around $2100 per person - but you are more likely to pay around $1000 total per head.

@andersandkaitlin

Hey. Great question! First of all, we are very discreet when filming. It's the same camera used for photos. Most restaurants don't even know we are filming. I've made the mistake a few times of asking in advance, and once it became a big deal where they probably thought we would roll in with a camera crew, lights, gear etc., so I find that not asking in advance is better.

awesome place food looked fun my only quibble is mainly with the ingredients. i can't wait for the day fine dining does not equate to the same ingredients. caviar foie truffles langoustine scallop in shell list goes on and on.. great to get them dont get me wrong but doesn't matter if its europe scandinavia u.s. asia you are getting some sort of a version of the same ingredients over and over. yeah they are manipulated to be different textures but end of day why does fine dining have to be under the guise of "here's a fat lump of caviar isn't this great". i'd personally be excited by what deep down makes someone tick and how their personality shines through not just through technique but also ingredients.
@andersandkaitlin
@andersandkaitlin 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input! Not a bad point you're making at all. However, I feel that even though a restaurant like Alchemist do choose to have these ingredients on the menu, 1) they do fun new things with them, and 2) they also have other dishes with way less familiar and easy-to-like ingredients.
@wolf-yw9wk
@wolf-yw9wk 4 жыл бұрын
@@andersandkaitlin yeah i'm not directly focusing on this place in particular this just happened to be the video i left the comment on because in reality it could be left on almost any video of fine dining. its weird to almost know the menu before you go in without ever being somewhere. i know if i go into any fine dining place at this point there is a list of ingredients i will get which is weird to me. fine dining should be the forefront of unpredictability and it doesnt necessarily mean that the ingredients need to be exotic or out there either just different. its turned into a genre in which the song doesnt change its just the techniques used to play the song. if you went to this place and they didn't serve you foie truffles caviar langoustine etc and say the "food for thought" dish was made with peaches to mimic the texture of foie gras would you have felt like it was not worth the money?
@andersandkaitlin
@andersandkaitlin 4 жыл бұрын
@@wolf-yw9wk Again, I don't disagree with you, this is true for many places. But of all restaurants to choose as grounds to discuss this topic, I feel Alchemist definitely has some surprises in stock- it's not often we see lamb brain on a menu or an improved omelette for that matter. There are some really creative dishes here unlike any other fine dining restaurant we've seen, at least!
@wolf-yw9wk
@wolf-yw9wk 4 жыл бұрын
@@andersandkaitlin i 100% agree that's why i was saying its not about this place per se just happened to be the post i was asking the question. my point is more along the lines of thinking chefs in general think you as a diner would mind if these ingredients are not on the menu so they stay in this same zone when most likely you wouldn't mind if it was not on menu. something like say alchemist is so highly creative those ingredients wouldn't have mattered to your overall excitement to the night it was the creativity that brought you in.

A great menu that is not only about the food but is accompanied by some entertainment is great, especially when at least for one evening you want to forget about how bad the world is sometimes, and just enjoy and relax. But this a seven-hour, fifty-course meal interrupted by hints about how awful the world is (plastic in the oceans) and how you have to make it better (donate blood) would simply over-burden my senses and make me feel awkward and uncomfortable.

@@einundsiebenziger5488 Unfortunately, that's not the case at most high-end restaurants at all. Places like Alchemist are pushing for a change.
