Starship IFT-2 from just outside of the exclusion zone.
Sorry this is super late. I originally wasn’t going to post this footage but changed my mind. Hope you enjoy!
This is my first time tracking something moving this quickly. Also my first time using manual focus while tracking. You can see the times where I lost focus and had to re-adjust.

Anything within 5km has risk of hearing damage without protection. 120 dB will give you guaranteed hearing damage within 5 minutes, probably sooner. This was (calculated estimate) on the order of 90-100 dB at 5km, which will give you hearing damage within 30 minutes, probably sooner.

That sound is insane. I read years ago that the loudest man-made sustained sound (other than a nuclear blast) was the launch of a Saturn V at 203 decibels. I wonder how Starship compares to that in terms of decibel level, given that it's more than twice as powerful.

@@CSIStarbase I get a number of 136db at 1 mile from the launch site when I look up how loud the Artemis I launch was. Sound levels for Saturn V launches varied with some reporting levels as low as 180db and as high as 235db.
@1987VCRProductions
@1987VCRProductions 7 ай бұрын
@@geoffallan The only measurement I can easily find that lists a distance is from the BBC who claim that the noise of a Saturn V was 120db at 1.5 miles from the launch complex. The 200+ decibel measurements were apparently taken 100 meters from the pad but I can't find a solid source on that.

@@CSIStarbase The roll program is a great deep-dive topic. In the past, they performed the roll to align the rocket with its azimuth. In the case of Starship maybe they roll just to point the telemetry antennas in the optimal direction? How do they accomplish the roll? Gimballing, grid fins, flaps..... Tim Dodd did a piece on the subject called "Why do cylindrical rockets roll?" Maybe a topic for a future CSI deep-dive?

You are correct 1:21 the ship was Mach 1. Liftoff was 0:21. At 1:14 we can see the ship go transonic when the cloud forms around the middle of the ship. We know at 0:59 (1:21 in the video), telemetry indicates a speed of 1,128 km/h @ an altitude of 8 km. At 8 km altitude, the speed of sound is about 1,192 km/h. That places the ship within the transonic to supersonic period of the flight.
