It certainly was great to see Mama Cass enjoying Janis’ performance! I miss both of these ladies (77 yrs old here) but am thankful we have videos and recordings in perpetuity. It’s wonderful to see the our generation’s entertainers being discovered by the younger generations 🥰

The most wonderful thing is that Janis was just that good. There wasn't technology yet to tweak her into artificial perfection- this is pre-autotune. She had a raw passion that couldn't be equaled.

Janis was a little before my time (I am 62), however, being a 70"s teenager meant we idolized all 60's and 70's Blues Oriented Rock. She is the GOAT of blues singers, this song is a cover but boy oh boy does she belt it!!! Voice is the only instrument fashioned by God (if you believe). Great reaction!

This performance is from the Monterey Pop Festival in Northern CA June 1967, 2 years and 2 months BEFORE Woodstock in August 1969 updstate New York. The woman saying Wow that the camera focuses on twice is Mama Cass from the 1960's folk group The Mamas and The Papas. Songs you should check out from them are: Monday Monday, California Dreaming and Creeque (pronounced creek) Alley.

First time hearing Janis!???! ... Well, take a seat young man cuz you are in for one hell of a treat {no tricks!} and ride. Three things that a person should know about Janis Joplin is ... 1} Janis had a self-made branding all unto her self. What you see is what you got and she didn't give a damn ... 2} What you are about to hear is/was nothing less than UNADULTERATED, UNFILTERED, PURE STRAIGHT and FULL-BODIED TALENT pouring out from deep within this woman's soul ... and 3} I believe you will LOVE this the most .. Matter of fact, I'm sure of it! .. She was BORN: Janis Lyn Joplin January 19, 1943 ** PORT AUTHOR, TEXAS, U.S.A.** Unfortunately, we lost Janis to a heroin overdose on October 4, 1970 in Los Angeles, CA. She was 27. ** Side note ** .. Janis may have drank a Gin & Tonic once or twice in her lifetime. However .. Her drink of choice was "SoCo" or otherwise known as Southern Comfort. Not necessarily a sipping whiskey but more of a liqueur. You can find multiple pic's of Janis w/a pint of 'SoCo' in her hand.

The lady that was looking In awe in the audience was a quite famous singer herself Call big mama Cass. And she was in a group called the mamas and papa's.. But honestly this performance is nowhere even near top ten of her performances. She did 2 songs On tom jones and one was a duet check it out.
