Here's a long overdue look into the continuing process of building my own Hawaiian off-grid homestead. It's a dream to be able to create this from scratch and provide a place for friends and family to escape to.

This is what I like to see when I hear of people moving to the Big Island. Minimal clearing, growing native plants and cultivating the land not only for sustainability and yummy food, but for the betterment of the earth that we live on. Mahalo from a 28 yr old that has spent his entire life living in lower Puna but is only picking up the gardening bug now. You've got yourself a new subscriber! PS. Your house is beautiful. Awesome job.

I am honored by your kind words fellow Punatic! Yeah it was very important for me to build in a manner that respected the Aina first and foremost. The land will provide if you treat it right. Thank you so much for your comment and for watching.

Thanks for noticing those details! Yes, absolutely everything had to be brought down that path by hand. I have a 2 wheel Gorilla Cart that I strap materials to. Thankfully it's downhill! If it was uphill... the path would have definitely been shorter lol. Also, the Cooks Pine windowsill in the bathroom matches the sills in the living room. It's fun creating something with your bare hands and with no real plan. Mahalo for watching 👀!

@HawaiiOffGrid well, a lot of us, including myself, really wish we were able to do this.... I live in Oahu, and I'd much rather be on the Big Island, off grid, but, I'm a contractor and there's a very limited labor pool out there as well as a lower demand for the custom services we offer.... My wife is Samoan, and she really lived off grid most of her life in Upolu. She'd love to get back to nature. Also, it's very challenging saving money to make the move and buy the land.... not to mention, we're in our late 40s and we had surprise twins 5 years ago! So, at least we can watch you do it and know that it's always possible with unique opportunities! Anyway, keep posting and have a blast!!
