Now that your bobbin is wound, get it inserted in your Singer sewing machine and you're ready to start sewing.

Actually this is useful for all basic to advanced sewing machines. It's the really really REALLY basic ROOKIE "how to" stuff on a sewing machine. ^^; Though I would suggest KNOWING what a bobbin IS first, HOW TO wind one. and what it means when the threat is being lead through the notches/loops in the slide plate. Basic sewing stuff.

Thank you for all your Singer Machine videos. They have been most helpful to me. The manual is rather bare and these videos have helped the manual make sense. Thanks again.

Always a good idea that if you are pulling out the bobbin to be changed that you let people see how and in what direction things are going so that they can then replace in the opposite rotation.

Nice video...it's easy to forget that beginners don't even know there is a bobbin much less how to load and use it. You sound really helpful, too! Well Done! Trish Stuart

ok... so i was about to scream when this as well as manual helped in no way. the top thread kept getting stuck in the bobbin spool. reason/answer... the singer 257 does NOT use standard sized bobbin casings. It uses a thinner 66 (think that is what store lady said number was, they just sold me a bunch of the right size when I brought machine in). do not be deterred. once I finally got my 257 threaded correctly this bad boy can sew easily through 4 layers of denim! I love my new vintage machine!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I finally got my sewing machine back from my sister after more than two years and forgot how to set up the bobbin. I couldn't do it until I put the string through the first notch BEFORE putting the bobbin in. If you look at the plate that has the notches in it you can see a groove where the string is pulled through that ends with a little circle and you can't really get it all the way down into the circle when you put the bobbin in first.

No, you need both the bobbin thread and the top thread. The principle of the sewing machine is that the two threads loop through each other. I think there's an article about the history of Singer sewing machines on the internet that shows more about how it does that. Happy sewing! Just start slowly and practice basics until you're confident. Then it's like bike riding - it's yours for life!

Thank you so much for creating this video! I have a Singer 5830c sewing machine that I inherited from my mother and it was absolutely baffling on how to thread the needle and raise the bobbin thread. Thanks a great deal!
@sewmarm
@sewmarm 17 жыл бұрын
In the video, you can see the thread is clicked into two slots in the bobbin holder. Then when you lower the needle and raise the needle, the upper thread catches the bobbin thread and pulls it up as a loop. When you pull the upper thread, the loop comes up high enough to undo and you're ready to sew. You can also try viewing triplebusybees video "Learning 2 Sew:Pulling Up The Bobbin Thread" for another video on pulling up the bobbin thread. Hope that helps.

I am lost. Could not see what you did with the 2 notches. That is what I needed to get. Is there any other video to show the placement of the thread going through the notches?
@sewmarm
@sewmarm 15 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question. You may have a self winding bobbin machine. The newer ones are like that ;). If you do have an older machine, you need to insert the threaded bobbin for the lower thread. Essentially a sewing machine takes thread from both above and below the two fabric layers and causes them to intertwine to form the stitch. Hope that helps.

Try just sliding the thread along that left edge. You may also have a different model with a different bobbin case. Keep trying, and do some searches for the user manual for your model on the internet. Always good to have a copy of your user manual.

Mine is a 3343. Be sure you take the needle through one full turn. The needle goes from highest position to lowest, to highest again. Pull up on the needle thread when it comes up again, and see if your bobbin thread is hooked on it. If you have your manual, check for how your bobbin needs to be inserted, too.

The bobbin thread becomes your lower thread, I have a good video by someone else in my favorites about how sewing machines work,I think. You have to get that bottom bobbin thread up through the face plate by using the needle to catch it, that's what this video is about. After it's through the notches, you just use the hand crank and let the machine pull up the thread, then un-loop them and you're ready to go! HOpe that helps!

Nope, you don't need to hold the bobbin thread. Use the hand crank to lower the needle and then raise it to the highest level. Then pull up on the upper thread and that should pull up the bobbin thread. Then separate the threads and you're ready to go! Good luck! Oh, and keep asking, someone else probably has the same question.

On the chance that it's the thread, unwind your bobbin (a waste, I know, but so is the tangling anyway), and thread it with some other name brand top of the line thread and see if that's the problem. Check your manual for lubricating routine lubrication points. Make sure that your fly wheel is engaged so that it moves the lower gears. When all else fails, call a service person.

You need to raise and lower the needle by hand. It will catch the bobbin thread and bring it through the feeder plate to the top. Um.. my series number is on the front of my machine, but I recall on my old, ancient Singer it wasn't obvious.

There are no notches at all. The Singer manual is useless, it says the bobbin thread should pull up with the needle but it doesn't.

well, I thought that the steps have to be obvious to work. I lay the bobbin in the slot (thread coming from the right). I can see indents on the silver and black casing but nothing that can hold a thread. nothing notch-like. It should be easier. I played with it for 1/2 hour. I should have found the notches by then. However the bobbin casing looks similar to yours, I am so lost I actually cried. It's a "new" (used) machine.

2 - As the thread comes off the bobbin for winding, on my machine it doesn't go into the first notch, but does go in the 2nd notch. Then, I have to pull the thread forward and then over to the left. (as if I'm trying to make it now go clockwise.) I continue holding the thread towards the left and gently pull it towards the back left, where there's a "guide" in place. Then, I manually wind the wheel so that the needle goes down and picks up the bobbin thread. Don't know if that will help.

After pulling out my dad's Singer 4530, I was able to re-thread the bobbin with ease. I can also thread the spool to the needle, but my stitches always turn up with globs [and I really mean globs] of thread on the bottom. I think that this is due to the string tension. The knob was removed, and the nut which the knob was inserted on, was twisted completely off. The screw which the nut was twisted on, is made in the way of a two pronged pin, and I cant seem to get it back on. Is there any way?

Hi axuxaxux, It's a Singer Merrill 3343c. The 120v version is without the c. It's out of production, and I haven't seen the manual online. I actually had to ask the dealer I bought it from to xerox one he had left in 1994. I think you might be able to get a reprint on singersewingmachine (dot) com. Not sure. There are also some machines on sale on ebay, maybe you can get someone to sell you a copy of the manul ($15 on singersewingmachine dot com). Good luck! It's a great reliable machine.

I just got my first Singer, and the thread comes up perfectly fine. But as soon as I start moving the fabric through, the needle ends up sewing in clumps of access thread on the back side of the fabric - and everything becomes caught. Is the bobbin the problem?
@shirleyann6954
@shirleyann6954 6 жыл бұрын
For others that may have this issue, one of the first things to check is your top tension. Next, be sure you have the same size of thread in the bobbin as is on the spool. It also helps to have cleaned any lint, dirt, etc. from the bobbin area and if your machine is one that requires oiling, do so after the lint has been removed and only ad one drop where oil is required. There is a large amount of info on 'youtube.com' videos, so be patient and if necessary, review multiple times until you can understand. If all else fails, check w/friends, family members who sew a lot or take it to your local sewing machine repair shop. Eventually, you'll get the 'word picture'. Happy sewing.
