CA, just so you know - a 3" Minnowz weighs about 5.25 grams. So with an 1/8oz head you're closer to 3/8. And those 5" Diezels weigh 12g!

Fitzgeralds building is just a few miles from me. Very small shop for being as big as they are. Thought about asking them to take a tour of they're facility.

I was having problems with setting the hook with Texas Eye jigs and stuff like that. It was losing fish. I went and got the 7' medium power fast action Ugly Stik Inshore Carbon and the problem is solved. So I got the lighter and heavier versions of those rods and between the 3 I'm all set. The light one is great with exposed jigs and the heavy one is awesome for popping corks and heavier jigs. I wish they had a 7'6" version. I'm not familiar with Fitzgerald rods, but the TFO's from the Salt Strong guys is pretty tempting.

@@robdishjr4912 which one? Salt Strong has a line called Professional that are around $100 I think. A 7'6" medium power fast action would be awesome I think, but I've never had a 7'6"

@comfortablynumb9342 that's the one I have the tfo pro. Keep in mind shipping on their rods is like 30 bucks so with tax your closer to 140. I dint use it anymore than my penn squadrons or my ugly stick inshore carbons. I love that rod. I'm short so I dint use anything over 7 unless I'm dock or pier fishing ill use a 7 6 for the added height.

@@robdishjr4912 Cool. I love those blue Ugly Stik Inshore Carbon rods too. I was using composite Ugly Stiks and they're fine for bait, and I'd use them for trolling, but I use a lot of jigs and soft plastics, and those composite rods are too heavy and not sensitive enough. The graphite ones solved a lot of issues for me and they're pretty affordable, right here in town at a locally owned shop. I'd like a longer rod for the piers and also for my kayak. And I need to get one of the Inshore Carbon rods for my Penn Squall baitcaster.

@comfortablynumb9342 yea man trust me my old man has always used ugly stick. From his small rods to his surf rods he loves them. Honestly for price if your bait fishing u can't beat them. Issue with them when fishing soft plastics or artificial is the moderate action. It's too slow to really stick a fish unless they pretty much do it themselves. I stay with fast action for plastics and stuff for the most part. I use alot of penn stuff. It's way heavier then like shimano and diawa but it's what iv always grew up using and it's what I'm used to. U can't beat their shit up it's just constantly runs. I have 2 medium set ups with 3000 reels rated for 1/4 to 1oz lures. 2 light medium with 2500 and 2000 size reels rated for 1/8 to 5/8 then and one for 1/16th to 5/8th. Those are just fir smaller stuff. For each I have one set up with a jighead. Other is with a weed less deals. I use jig heads anytime I can better hook up ratio for me atleast. But u gotta find what you like man. That's the biggest thing

Great video cap! How about a medium heavy casting rod for redfish? I also prefer casting gear.

Depending on application I prefer a MH/MF for larger topwater plugs and suspenders and a MH/F for heavier wire hook jigs on the casting rods. Fitzgerald Rods makes some good ones in their All-Purpose Series

Medium/ Moderate Fast is soft but perfect for small treble hook lures. Try Medium/Extra Fast it should be much more crisp in the entire blank.

CA, What spec rod would you suggest for throwing 1/4 - 1/2 oz lead + soft plastic for a soft mouth fish like weakfish? Wish Zman made the trout eye in a few more heavier sizes. Light gauge seems perfect but heavier weight is needed to get the ledges and current they usually are in unlike their speckle cousins.

Likely you’ll need a MH/Mod Fast tip if the jig head wire isn’t too thick… or jump up to a MH/Fast and utilize a slippery drag setting

Great Video Professor CA! I am a huge fan of the jigs but been experimenting with more treble hook lures this fall than in the past. Lures such as the mirrolure heavy dine. I find I am losing lots more fish on treble hooks than when using a single hook setup. Would you attribute this to the same type of issues you described with a mismatch in the rod and reel?
@flatsclasscharters

Often it is the same issues… I have some new videos coming that will help explain this clearly
