Spartanburg High School opened its doors to students for the first time Monday. Here's a look inside the $134 million facility.

I was in the SHS Student Council when they were planning this new building and for those wondering, they didn't forget lockers or run out of money. The lockers at the old building were rarely used because of everyone having Macbooks and often just made the hallways more cramped. The new school was also not a project to look like Dorman (they don't even look alike) but a project to better accommodate the community and provide a better environment for some of South Carolina's best students. SHS has wonderful teachers and staff and I absolutely loved my time in Spartanburg School District 7. I don't see how a school that has one of the largest AP programs in SC, produces Ivy League-level scholars, coaches State Champion level athletes, develops award-winning artists, and regularly have students be selected for very prestigious programs like the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program (only 161 students selected a year) is considered at the bottom. The majority of students that attend SHS are low-income and this school is a huge asset to them and provides everyone with the resources they need to be successful. I went to SHS in the old building and loved it then, but I would have done anything to have the resources and technology that this new building provides. Shameful that anyone would be upset about the children of Spartanburg gaining more resources to enhance their education and not consider what this new school means to its students. I much rather my taxes go towards funding any educational resources than expanding Spartanburg's jails.

Ridiculous the school went over budget and forgot school lockers. Trying to make sure they get a big school like Dorman LMAO learn to budget first. Low poverty district spending unnecessary money on shit they cant afford. They buy Mac books cause its popular but the schools who have great teachers and plenty of money have chromebooks. Perfect example of rich staying rich and the poor stay poor. Stop buying stuff and invest in the right tools and maybe these school can stop being at the bottom. speaking in general for district 7 schools period. I do my research. Now watch how they need looney and fundraisers to try to pay back this overbudgeting problem they have. SMH pitiful pitiful pitiful

They didn’t forget the lockers. The school is so big that having lockers will take too much time and things would be late to class because they had to go to the lockers because the school is so big. Spartanburg high school marching band beat doorman at a marching competition last year when Spartanburg marching band only had about 80 members and doorman had a lot more. Plus Spartanburg high school football team beat doorman at a Dorman Home game! Spartan High: 😎 dorman: 🫠
