How exactly does buying in the UK work? I know in the States if I find something I want it's a 4473 transfer form and as long as you pass you take it home. I know it's not that simple elsewhere.

@@bmstylee in the Uk you apply for a license to possess a shotgun/shotguns , fill in a questionnaire, any convictions are taken into account and medical history is checked . Basically then a decision is made about you being able to possess shotguns or firearms . When you purchase a gun forms are filled in to let the your area firearms office know you have made the purchase with full details of the item and who from

@@bmstylee Only thing to add, is that the process differs slightly between a Shotgun Certificate and a Firearms Certificate. With the Shotgun Certificate, you can just pop into the shop, pick and buy your gun, send the purchase details to the local police and thats largely it. With a firearm (rifles etc), you have to have a specific slot on your licence for a gun of a certain calibre and you can only get that slot, if you have a valid reason for it. Once you have purchased that specific firearm, that slot is then used. If later on, you want to sell that gun and get a different one, you have to relinquish that gun (sell it etc), the slot is then closed and you have to apply for a variation for a new slot, even if it is a like for like (i.e. 223 - 223).

I like looking at shotguns like these. I just don't shoot them well. I went to shoot clays with a friend and couldn't hit anything that wasn't moving directly in or out. Add in the massive flinch I from recoil and I'll stick to rifles. Which is odd because I shoot my 338 Lapua Magum pretty damn good.

Just had a quick look. The cheaper new guns are usually Turkish, which start at around £250 for a 12 gauge semi-auto. New Mossbergs start at around £700, Browning £1000. Used gets you much more bang for your Buck (pun intended), as second hand shotguns start at about £25 from a gun shop.

⁠@@dusty7264My nearest place for clay shooting is about 10 miles, nearest rifle range about 16 miles. Biggest barrier to shooting in the UK is suitable land for shooting (70million people in a land area slightly smaller than North Carolina, with nothing like US National Forests to hunt in) rather than cost. What you see on TGS (which I do enjoy watching) is pretty much the expensive end of shooting in the UK. Where I am it’s a mechanic or plumber (without tweed clothing) shooting rabbit, fox or maybe deer after work on a patch of land they own or have a 'permission' to shoot over. A permission is usually an agreement with a local farmer / land owner to shoot on their land, in exchange for a bit of pest control. Have a good (checks time difference) afternoon/evening.

You can get cheapish shotguns for clays or just farm pest control. The more interesting question is how much paperwork and legislation you have to go through to get one.

Boy £10k which is almost $13k USD could buy me a bunch of cool stuff. A Barrett M99(pre Aussie sale) with optics and the kit to reload 50 BMG would be tempting. Maybe work on my collection of duty/military sidearms. Boy I could get into a lot of trouble.

Buy a Rolex GMT master or a couple of Omegas instead. Don’t waste your money on such a boring gun.

In the UK, you can get a shotgun permit and get any shotgun that holds 3 rounds or less, and is the easiest way to get a firearm there. Whereas to get a rifle you need a firearms license which is harder to get. Plus, this is a high-end gun store that sells guns that are thousands of pounds, doubt they'd be willingly to touch anything that actually was fired

It could be an American shop where you see a lot of people you wouldn't want anywhere near something airsoft let alone a real gun. I've been shooting almost 20 years and it seems shooters are getting more and more negligent. Public ranges are pretty scary places. I went with a friend to help dial in his first center fire rifle and literally watched someone walk into a hot range to set a target. No asking for a ceasefire to set targets. Just strolled in. A couple of us who are familiar with protocol yelled really fast for a ceasefire. Definitely let the RSO who was checking another range know before someone gets hurt.

It is not similar... They shoot higher end guns. Hunting is more of a sport than gathering food. We primarily hunt wild birds, a lot of them shoot farm birds. We primarily hunt with dogs, they use beaters more often. We spend more money on rifles than on shotguns. It's mostly the other way around there. But at the same time they'll spend four times while we would on a shotgun.

@@runnin_myles8098 mostly but not all. You have to have a specific reason to own a gun when you purchase it, stuff like self defense isn't allowed. But sports, hunting, and work related are allowed. You can get some ar style rifles but only in small calibres. My mum's uncle worked for landowners as a gameskeeper in the Scottish Highlands, he had rifles with high power scopes and suppressors
