This week, we visit a 5-room BTO unit at Tampines GreenVerge. Homeowners Terence and Roxanne knew they wanted a dark theme, as they wanted something different from their previous home. The 5-room unit on paper was 1,216 square feet, but to them, it somehow felt smaller than their old 4-room flat. As a result, it required a lot of creative adjustments to configure the space for their living needs.
First, they decided to go without a console and coffee table because of their young kid, and installed a project instead. Because Roxanne was able to work from home, they also created a glass-walled study/office carved out from the living room space.
For the dining, it was smaller than they liked so they opted to cut down the size of their son’s room to allow the dining space to be bigger. As a result, they were able to fit a 2m dining table in the end. They also hacked down the kitchen wall to created an open kitchen layout and kitchen island.

Thanks for sharing! Just a suggestion - if the floor plan before, and after can continue to be flashed/highlighted during the video, before the owners introduced a key design element. This is helpful for us in understanding and visualising when the owners explained various aspects, where was hacked etc.

@@singaporefoodreview9591 What I am imaging is a quick 1-2 sec flash of the floor plan and transition. And the part being discussed is being highlighted in red or circle or something simple to let us know what is being discussed, what changed and etc. I am in the midst of going through reno process and some channels do that and it gives a lot of clarity. I don’t imagine it’s hard to do nor makes the presentation messy.

Like the dark somber theme and splash of wooden shelves and nice table grains to give it some texture. The earthy toilet look is a beautiful complimentary extension of greyish theme with some clayish elements to give it more depth. Tastefully done although the living hall looks a bit uncompleted and bare especially the blank wall which does stick up as a sore thumb. I mean why would anyone rest upon a sofa to look at a blank hard wall.

There are no plants in the appartment or on the outside. The lack of nature makes me feel bad and it makes the darkness of the appartment look darker. I like a lot how the doors are hidden and how elegant they look.

Hi there, HDB means Housing and Development Board. A bomb shelter is required for HDBs. 😄

In Singapore it's quite loosely used. E.g. Bungalow is typically a 1-storey home but we use it to refer to large detached homes e.g. "Good Class Bungalows" that can be 2 or more storeys too :)

This beat the purpose The purpose of the HDB is for low income who cant afford housing But they are more than “low income” I think this beat the purpose of the initial plan for HDB for low income

Purpose of a HDB is to provide public housing for all Singaporeans regardless of income level. If the owner is able to afford to renovate their flat nicely that is their right to do so.

Not to your taste just say la. Any theme can be done at any price point. Just how well executed and what detailing can go into the project is affected.
