This week's episode of Tiny Spaces features a special collaboration with Ori, making the furniture of the future and multiplying space using robotics.
About Ori:
"Our goal is to empower people to live large in a small footprint. We believe spaces should expand and adapt to our lives, that smarter spaces can provide us with the flexibility we need, and deliver the experience we want, by transforming effortlessly-almost magically."

What I love about it is that the bed and the pocket spaces work without requiring an unrealistic level of decluttering or effort, because otherwise in practice it never happens. I've known so many people in studio apartments that really only put their bed away when someone's coming over, because it's too much work to make the bed and fold it back into the couch. I love that you don't even have to make the bed to put it away, and it's no more effort than opening your blinds in the morning. Keeping the coffee table cleaned off is reasonable, while the side tables and bookshelves can have stuff that is left in place. Likewise, you don't have to clean up your office to close it, you just have to keep the floor space clear, which is reasonable. Shifting the empty floor space around is genius.

Yes I agree! I was very interested in the price and saw all the different variations they've done on their site. The only thing I'm wondering about is how comfortable that bed and couch actually is, it looks pretty stiff 😅

I am amazed, particularly by the office space. It is a certain way for a person who works from home to be able to leave work mentally and physically. All spaces were beautiful and functional.
@theaeon
@theaeon 2 жыл бұрын
And the great thing is all of the spaces seem usable at the same time! Sure, they will be smaller, but you can watch TV, work in the office and even go into the closet or use the table on the back wall of the closet at the same time! So you could have two people working there at the same time. Idk, i'm just astounded by how clever and convenient (especially compared to other tiny, converting apartments that are manuelly operated) this is.

Bed is 16000$ according to google. In my country they make it for years, similar but manual power (with counter weights so it is easy to move), in 2014 it cost 1500eur, around 1700$. 16000$ is frankly ridiculous, but even at that price it might be worth it in many places. Lets say you save 10m2 just with just a bed, that might be worth 100k.

Truly an amazing use of space! Probably the most efficient micro-studio I've seen. My apartment is 320 sq ft, but it feels much smaller than this. The apartment building began its life as a hotel, and the apartments are simply converted hotel rooms. I've seen these features in another building on the upper west side, in West Harlem, all kitted out with the same cantilevered bed and walk-in closet. I wish we could have seen the kitchen and bathroom. Otherwise, I would rent one of these apartments in a heartbeat.

James, that's awesome! Yes, cities around the world are densely packed and it's awesome that Ori found solutions to work around that. A converted hotel room sounds pretty cool!

The bathroom and kitchen are standard and unchanged. Their site shows all the different variations they've done to studio, 1br, 2br in a ton of cities across the US. I was interested myself in the price and saw they actually have them in my city Columbus Ohio and Ohio never gets new things first! Very cool. I was thinking Japan and other counties that are tech forward and highly populated must be doing this already

I've seen other videos of "gimmicks" to use space in more than one way, but this is a practical application that works effortlessly. The technology and mechanics would make it expensive, especially with this high quality of construction, but it succeeds in making a small apartment bigger.

I’d live in that space if there’s a full bathroom and washer/dryer. I could see a kitchen, but wanted to see it in full. I want a demo on how to manually bring down the bed if there’s a power outage. Also… how much is that place? I imagine it’s not affordable despite the alleged cost savings.

What a great idea! I am claustrophobic and I couldn't see me living in a small space like that EVER. I had an 800 sq. ft. house one time with two people living in it altogether and after a few years I felt closed in. We bought a 1000 sq.ft. house until I moved again. Anyway, the ideas are very innovative and VERY practical. I am sure that you will get a lot of clients ordering your units; especially if they like living and working in the big cities which have small living quarters. All of the best for you and your company. I am sure that you will do very well. Thanks for show casing this for us.
