Seth Thomas has made so many Great Clocks over the years! Especially his famous clocks, the one you put on the wall!

Geneva stops, fancy movement!
@phoenixproto31492 жыл бұрын
Overwinding a clock isn't actually possible from my knowledge. If you do happen to "overwind" it (breaking the hook the mainspring is attached to) you would have to put a LOT of force on the key, and in fact you would probably break the key before the spring broke.
@DannysClocks2 жыл бұрын
In watches or clocks that have a balance wheel, a Geneva stop is definitely necessary to prevent overwinding because it can be a problem in that circumstance. If a balance wheel has too much force exerted on it, it will spin way too fast and wear it out faster as so much extra pressure is being exerted, and it can be easy to overwind such tiny mainsprings on manual wind watches. So it makes sense for my Vostok submarine clock to have a Geneva stop... But not so much this clock. You're right, on a clock with this style of escapement, I don't think it really makes a difference... Maybe peace of mind? :p

@@DannysClocks Funny thing is some watches actually have a system where the whole mainspring starts spinning when it's fully wound, and yeah I can see where balance wheel timepieces need a system like that.

I meant hour hand
@DannysClocks2 жыл бұрын
Because I didn't need to advance the mechanism.
@vintagesimplexfirealarmsof64403 жыл бұрын
i belief that's a 89 mechanism like the mantle clocks and i wanted see the works of it too
@arancunningham72563 жыл бұрын
Correct
@DannysClocks3 жыл бұрын
Yep! this is an 89B movement, as it is marked on the plate.
@InstrumentFan25102 жыл бұрын
Why did you not use the minute hand as well
@DannysClocks Жыл бұрын
I was using the minute hand, just not the hour hand :)
@danijeljenko1842 жыл бұрын
0:56 You're not supposed to throw minute hand like this! :(
@DannysClocks2 жыл бұрын
It's not fragile at all, it was perfectly fine. I know what I can and can't throw, don't worry.
@danijeljenko1842 жыл бұрын
@@DannysClocks It's ok. I like your videos in general. Thanks for sharing your clocks with us.

What is that miniature wall clock next to it
@DannysClocks Жыл бұрын
That is an "Arrow" German novelty clock that belonged to my Great Grandfather. My mother receieved it from him before he passed away, and then she passed it down to me. It's in a short-drop style exactly like the bigger one I'm showing, just scaled down.
