Scrapped Video from last year, Thought about flipping this place but in reality it needs a total gutting and it would cost more to fix than it's worth and that is why nobody else has bought it. Fixed this could sell for $350,000 at least in perfect condition just the area, I said 200k in the video. The mouse may have been to a bait station. This place will only be bought by someone who want's to live there themself but still cool explore, thanks to the owner letting us view. It's possible the building never had a furnace but separate electric heating in each room which is totally stupid. Probably cost less to install but up north electric heating is super expensive and Nobody Does it. Oil up here is most efficient. This must have been some rich person's summer house and just used it to get the chill out on cold summer mornings. More videos coming soon.

Even though its an A frame house with the big steep roof. In the Right conditions Snow can still pile up on its roof pretty tall. 'FYI, if you ever go inside another abandon place. and see the electrical panel and see it as ON. Be Kind and Safe, just switch the Main breaker to Off if you are able to do it in a safe manor. Some times, Electrical crew might accidently hook up power at the street to a abandon house if they are working near it. Which in turn can cause abandon places to catch on fire, due to a short in abandon places wires or old wiring heating up to much and causing fire.

Also makes more sense then central in a house that tall. The basement would never get enough heat, and the upper floors would be scorching year round as all the heat would rise up there, and the furnace would be controlled only from a single thermostat most likely located on the main floor, which would be constantly bleeding it's heat upstairs, so the furnace would seem to never shut off. By doing baseboard heating, each floor or room can have it's own thermostat so upstairs heating doesn't need to run as often that way and it's easier to maintain more consistent temperatures. Given the remoteness of that location, I'd probably want to have a wood burning heater in the basement with vents to move the heat upstairs by convection in case of cold weather power outages which could go on for days, as well as a wood stove as a back up option for cooking as well, for the same reason.

I inherited an old house that had a 70s reno that my parents never did anything with. (They were busy fixing the plumbing, keeping the old furnace going, had it re-roofed, double-studded the main floor/ above ground basement, etc) When I moved in over two years ago I pulled up 70s wall -to- wall, painted all the kitchen panelling and dining room panelling an off- white. Easier to live with, brightened up the rooms.

I love A frames! This one is a bit different with the multiple floors. My friends A frame is open from floor to the ceiling peak, with a loft area at the back with two bedrooms, kinda like a Chalet. Also, it looks like the upstairs/kitchen/living room area has Electric baseboards from the late 60s or early 70's.

@Seriously_Unserious
@Seriously_Unserious 3 жыл бұрын
yup. IMO that choice for heating also makes sense due to how tall the house is. Heat from central would all rush up to the upper floors, leaving the main floor and basement permanently cold, other them maybe during hot periods of the summer. The upper floors would be scorching year round, even in winter, as the heat would raise up there and the furnace wouldn't be able to keep up for the lower floors. Having heating controlled separately for each floor or room makes the most sense to keep the temperatures consistent for all the floors. Including the basement and attic, that house had what, 4 or 5 stories?

I actually recognize this house (drive by it somewhat frequently), to be honest never really realized it was abandoned, but also didn't pay that much attention to it. The A frame design + the fact that it faces south (hope this isn't giving away too much info) has me think the builders were going for a passive solar heating design. Aframes trap heat really well (especially on the upper floors) and those big windows out front would let plenty in. This might explain the electric baseboard heating as more of a backup system (not ideal but given the early 70's architecture may have been prompted by the oil crisis) and might also explain the lack of insulation on the top floor to keep it from getting unbearably hot in the summer.

This looks like a cool place. I think the reason there's so many thermostats is because the place never had central heating, I saw a baseboard heater in pretty much every room, so those thermostats were probably to control the heating for that room or level's heaters. IMO that actually makes more sense then central for a house that tall, since each floor would need a different temperature setting. The upper floors would be scorching hot year round while the basement would be ice cold year round if you had them all on one thermostat as the heat would rise to the upstairs floors plus they'd also be having the furnace puffing out heat nonstop trying to keep up with the rising heat for the main floor where the thermostat would most likely be, while the basement would never get enough heat from the furnace. By having the heat controlled floor by floor with localized room heating, each floor can have it's own heat settings and only get as much heating as it needs to stay comfortably warm. I'd probably also do a similar setup for AC, if I were to set that up in a house like that. That way the upper floors could get more cooling in the summer, and the basement less.

Those valves in the upstairs bedroom wall were probably for a forced hot water heating system. They might have started converting it from electric when the foundation suddenly shifted.
