@@kareharpies Exactly...all the paintball players...all the people who play online shooters...all those who would not have lasted five minutes in the military, let alone in such elite units. I was a paratrooper in the German 'Bundeswehr' (15 years ago) and i saw the 'KSK' in action...those guys are a different breed...and this is the case with all tier one units. Such discussions about which unit is better are childish and ridiculous...they all are heavy hitters

You have to remember the history of American and Canadian special forces to understand how cooperation and recognition comes naturally to the two countries. The First Special Service Force (also known as The Devil's Brigade) which was formed in WW2 and comprised of soldiers from both countries is the birthplace of special forces for both their special forces. They still acknowledge their joint history with this unit annually and there is even a highway that goes from Lethbridge Alberta in Canada to Helena Montana in the US (where the unit trained) which is named after them. The unit's shoulder patch is pretty famous among North American special forces and consists of a red arrowhead with USA in white lettering at the tip and Canada in white lettering down the spine.

They all serve the same foundational function. They all have access to superior resources and benefit largely from a joint task force more than general standing military entities. If a country uses the Tier system, than one tier isn’t necessarily better than the other . There are hard hitters , bigger and badder SOF and non SOF dudes from all walks of military life. My friend and police academy classmate spent 20+ years in the Marine Corps, he retired as a SgtMajor in 2021 and went straight into the police academy with me following his retirement . He spent his entire youth all the way up to his 40s in combat environments. He had seen and produced more extreme violence than any other SOF classmate of mine that comprised of Ranger and Seal. Every military guy in my class looked up to him. Proof that the man and kill set matters above the title as well as ego tripping being relegated to people who lack humility and/or exposure.

Not quite. Let's just say "of the modern era." Three other units - correction: four other units - all from this group of countries, and all even less well known, if at all. They're not ghosts - but they don't, or didn't advertise. The teams or units that are simply never mentioned will almost certainly be known to many or all other of these groups. In some cases, the only hint is a memorial marker. Gone but not forgotten. One odd bit of trivia: there is one of the units mentioned here where during training, there is no yelling, officers to troops. I don't know the history of that and likely never shall. However, it is one of the quirks that have become traditions. Many of these units also do training in each other's countries - perhaps because of geography, or perhaps to see how well they can be there and either blend in, or not be noticed. That all by itself is a skill. One other thing I noticed on the occasions when I've met them is how good they are at not wasting adrenaline when the circumstances don't call for it. They are all remarkable, whether for capability, adaptability, "mindfulness," intelligence, skill sets, often language skills, and utter commitment to the job at hand. And very often courage in the face of impossible odds, or situations. Each and every one is worthy of the respect that all of us old coots, no matter the nation, have and will continue to have. Remarkable units and individuals doing things that most of us will never know of, or be called upon to do. Utmost respect to them all.

Hi General, thank You that You mentioned Polish GROM unit, but the footage is actually from JW AGAT basic training, and OSŻW basic traning also. JW AGAT is a different unit, more like 75th Ranger Regiment (heavy weaponery, armored vehicles etc.), OSŻW is a special unit of military police. Is hard to find a good footage from GROM i know, but as they called "Cichociemni" ("silent&unseen") it should be like that :) For SOF enthusiasts You should check another cool Polish SOF like JWK , Formoza , Nil. @@dsumner1234 just to expand on this to avoid confusion...SAS, SBS and SRR take candidates from all services. SAS and SBS share the selection process. It's not like you do SF selection and then choose which path to take. You apply to a particular unit, it's just that you go through the same process apart from the SRR which have their own selection pipeline. Although very similar, it's quite different. Other parts of UKSF are different. SFSG is tri-service but you have to have passed an arduous course to qualify (AACC/P-Coy/Pre Para are the main ones not sure if pathfinder or special observers cadres count but they are both pretty nails units in their own right) so that pretty much limits it to members of 3CB, 16AA and RAF Rgt 2 (Para) Sqn. 18 Signal Regt and Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing which make up the rest of UKSF are exclusively recruited from the Royal Signals for 18SR, and the RAF and Army Air Corps for JSFAW.

Yeah 'Vegemite' is as Australian as a barbie out the backyard or the 360 backyard clothesline. Australia's elitist soldiers come under the abbreviation SOCOMD/A. We copied the American abbreviation but added the letter 'A'. The tier one forces that come under SOCOMD/A are 1/2 Commando and SASR. The equipment SOCOMD/A use are varied, but for interoperability purposes much is from/shared with the US. Australia, a small populated nation has a very impressive record when it comes to elite forces going all the way back to WW2 "Z Force". It was only at the start of the 1950's that we stood up SASR. In Vietnam the VC called our special forces "chicken stranglers", and their kill v loss ratio was just staggeringly effective. 1/2 Commando's main ROE are 'kick in the door' elite forces, but SASR are more structured for insertion behind enemy lines and long recon. If you'd ask most serving/former US SOCOM operators to give their opinions of our tier one operators it is always extremely impressive. The biggest difference arguably is SOCOMD/A lacks the 'force projection' capabilities of the US, and both France + the UK. France has an enormous military footprint in Africa and to the north of Australia.

It's also interesting that there are a disproportionate number of Scotsmen in the SAS as well. As for the SBS, these mainly come from the Royal Marines, quite often from the Mountain Leaders, who are already an elite within an elite. Both units (GROM and JWK) cooperated with the Americans, Brits, with Canadians, Aussies... all over the world and in the most important moments but you won't learn much about it after watching these interviews, we don't like to talk a lot.... we are not movie stars. Kind regards - S

I'm confused about the Squadron Troops of the SAS Air, Boat, Mob.,MTN. Why does the SAS have Boat Troops when they have the Royal Navy Special Boat Service (SBS) to do maritime missions; are they the SAS Boat Troop and the SBS the same thing or are they separate units??
@banamourfell1249
@banamourfell1249 5 ай бұрын
It's just that the sas are trained in boat and aquatic warfare so that there more variable in there mission sets. The sbs do the same water based stuff just a lot more of it and in a higher intensity way.

ISA and Sayeret Matkal should be in here. ISA went into a terrorists house, knew it was the right guy, and when they had him outside interrogating him and ISA operative bugged his phone and put it back in the exact place her found it. They All then acted as though they had the innocent guy and let him go lol. They got to a of targets from bugging the guys phone. They mainly supports DEVGRU (SEAL team 6) and 1st SFOD-D ( Delta force) Badass story and if you know Erik Miyares you’ll know the story. Edit: spoke too soon lol I see They included Sayeret Matkal. Shayetet 13 (Israel’s Navy SEALs ) is up there as well.

I think there is more Special force kind of units in french army than GIGN. For example, commando Hubert or Kieffer which are navy commando. And all special forces units of all different armies ground/air/ sea are regrouped in the COS (or Special Operation Command).

A cool story about Polish GROM was that the unit was created, trained, and funded by the United States by request of the Polish government after the Poles assisted in the rescue of 6 CIA agents in Iraq. Fun fact: GROM carried out the first successful capture of a war criminal for prosecution at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) at the Hague in an operation called Little Flower.
@rayan69pl
@rayan69pl Ай бұрын
The USA "created" GROM? LOL. You are mixing facts and creating rumors that are not true. Yes, Polish special forces helped save American agents in Iraq on the eve of Operation Desert Storm. And so, the USA financially helped Poland in creating this unit, but for the help the USA forgave Poland $20 billion of debt, and the rescue of these American agents was not the reason for creating the unit. The reason for this was the need that also arose because Polish special forces helped in the evacuation of Jews from the USSR to Israel, which resulted in Polish diplomats in Lebanon being attacked in retaliation (as mentioned in the video). All this information is publicly available on the website of former soldiers of the GROM unit

Didn't knew Sayeret Matkal also borrowed the SAS "Who dares win" Because here in Belgium our Special Forces also have this motto, because in our history, the first Belgian Special Forces were trained by the SAS and even became a part of that unit as the "Belgian SAS Squadron" in WW2.
