Why do you presume that anyone's forgotten that? The whole world remembers that.

I lived in Nola at the time. I was 25 and single mom of an 8 month old baby. It was horrible...

There are some events in life so horrifying you'll never forget them. This is one of them. I remember a group of friends and I crowding around the television to watch for news. My best friends mother went missing for over a month. Day by day it just got worse, and worse, and worse. We'd never imagined, especially after 9/11, that families in America could be trapped on a roof for a week with choppers flying overhead several times a day and never stopping to drop them supplies or pick them up...

I don't think people in N.O. were able to take shuttles to anywhere before the storm. Apparently the local government did not provide public transport to take the poor out of the city, and THAT'S why many people stayed behind. You should watch a documentary called "Trouble the Water".

Your comment kind of shows that you DON'T understand being poor. Even if there were shuttles, which there weren't, how are you supposed to get you and your whole family to them? Lots of able bodied people who could have perhaps got out by hitchhiking, riding or walking had to stay behind to look after the ones who wouldn't have been able to get out. Do you see all those children and elderly and disabled? Not to mention that these people, their homes were all they had. ALL, they had.

There were no shuttles. I lived there, and I left. I knew coworkers with families that did not have a way to get out.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and that tidbit in the video was incorrect and misleading adding to the urban legend about Martial Law in N.O. in the aftermath of Katrina. I will say that it ended-up essentailly being Martial Law, but legally, it was not declared by the Governor of Louisiana, who didn't seem like she knew what the hell she was doing when it came to emergency management unfortunately for those trapped in the city of N.O. (Same for Mayor Nagin who took bribes...)

Americans should remember than Tsunami in Dec 26th 2004 killed about 250 000 people in Indonesia and Thailand, including about 5 000 tourists all over the world, especially from Europe.

Good documentary, but I found a BIG error in it. Civil liberties are not suspended when the Governor of a state activates the National Guard. They are used as a vital resource. To suspend civil liberties, they would've had to declare Martial Law, which they did not. However, because of the NOPD lost communications and went AWOL if the aftermath, the Louisiana Nat. Guard ended-up becoming the primary law enforcement agency, along with other federal agencies like US Customs ICE agents, FBI, etc.

I have a lot of family down there in N.O. They survived Katrina because they LISTENED and evacuated. It's sad that people went for days without aid, but they had plenty of time to heed the warnings and get out. Just as is the case currently with Isaac. My family evacuated ahead of time. I understand that the majority of the victims were poor, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have taken 1 of many shuttles to head north to safety. You HAVE to listen and understand the power of mother nature.

What shuttles? I know some people who went to the assigned place and time to meet for some of these said "shuttles," that never existed, never showed up, and left people in a parking lot waiting for no reason. There were no shuttles. stop talking about stuff that you don't know about. It makes you look stupid, and other people very angry at you.
